Visual Studio :: Debugging A Website Really Slow Since Upgrading To Windows 7?
Jul 16, 2010
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate on my work computer. Before this debugging a website in Visual Web Developer 2008 was really fast - the page loaded up like a normal website would.
Since I've upgraded to Windows 7 the page loads like normal but gets stuck for about 30 seconds at the end of the load - this is slowing me down as I normally need to use the FireBug tool as soon as the page has loaded.

I get this error when I hit F5 in VS 2008. I have checked that Windows authentication is enabled on the site and it is. I can mannully attach the debugger to the IIS process and it works. What could be wrong? I have tried alot of things without success.

I have a problem with Visual Studio 2010. When I start debugging it works slowly.
Internet Explorer opens, but the website loads extremely slowly.
My workmate and me work on the same project and he doesn't have any problem like that.
My hardware is 4G memory + Intel Core i5 CPU 3.20 GHz.
I stopped my anti-virus program but it couldn't be resolved.

Overall debugging works, but each step through code takes dosens of seconds.
I've already closed all additional windows like stack trace, watches, autos; deleted all breakpoints.
server and dev machine are located in different domains, so i set up local user on both, with matching password. remote debugger is running as service.
looking at security log, I found quite a lot of entries about remote debugging account logging in (record about every minute).
how i can speed up remote debugging?
dev computer: quad core, 8 Gb mem, win 7 x64 , visual studio 2010 ultimate target server: asp.net website , 2xdual core xeon, 2Gb mem, remote debugger 2010communication channel: vpn , 5 mbit , latency about 20ms. (seems that debbugging never uses more than 20 kb/s)

Debugging using the ASP.NET Development server is extremely slow to initialize. The behavior I'm getting is that if I launch the DevServer from VS2008, the first attempt to load a page takes minutes. After that, it's fine. Before the first page load, the DevServer UI responds to input normally (I can bring it up from the status area, use its context menu, and move the window around) until the first page load comes in. Then it shows the busy cursor (spinning blue ring) for 2-6 minutes before finally completing. There is no significant processor or I/O activity during this. After that, it runs normal speed, quite fast.

I have a precompiled website deployed in a remote test server. I want to debug the site from my computer. Following page says that the compilation should be performed with symbolic information.
[URL]
I had compiled my application in debug mode.
Unfortunately the breakpoints are not hit even with a copy of the precompiled website deployed in my local IIS. Following were the actions done with the local copy.
1. Requested the Page
2. Opened the source code and attached visual studio to aspnet_wp.exe
3. No break points are hit( I can see visual studio giving the hint- The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document.)

In Visual Studio, when I click > Debug, > Start Without Debugging, (with my default browser set to IE), the application starts but it opens 2 IE browser instances. It opens 1 IE instance to start BUT when I close it, it launches another browser instance with the same start page. This bug is repeatable and consistent behaviour, that I can reproduce on-demad in IE.
(In some other minor variations, it seems that depending upon exactly how I start it, it will open 1 browser instance with 2 tabs, each tab having the startup page in it. However, this is not yet repeatable or consistent. It has happened; but, as of now, I am uncertain as the the exact steps to reproduce this particular variation of the anomaly.)
I am using Internet Explorer 8 (IE8).
I am using on Windows 7 32-bit.
I am using Visual Studio 2008 Standard.
I only have 1 startup project defined in Solution properties.
I have all Toolbars And Extensions set to "Disabled" in IE.
I have turned off "Automatic Crash Recovery" in IE.
(This does NOT happen in FireFox.)

I'm creating a website in Visual Studio 2010. I would like to use Visual Studio for C# debugging, but it also uses Visual Studio as JavaScript debugger. Is there a way to disable script debugging for Asp.Net website projects? I run my projects by hitting F5 in my Visual Studio. (I've noticed that when I attach the debugger manually, I can specify the type of stuff I would like to debug.) Note: I would like to debug, but not with Visual Studio. The developer toolbar is enough.

I have a new development machine running windows 7 professional 64 bit. On loading up a website project Im getting this error
'The Web Application Project 'websitename' is configured to use IIS. To access local IIS websites, you must install IIS components:
IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibilty
ASP.net
Windows Authentication
In addition you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account
As far as Im aware, I am an administrator of my own pc and I have the .net framework installed.

I'm trying to debug my web application on my localhost machine in Visual Studio 2010 and I keep getting this error: "unable to start debugging on web server. The Microsoft Visual Studio remote debugging monitor(MSVSMON.exe) does not appear to be running on the remote computer."
Is there a way I can turn this off as I'm not trying to make any attempts debugging remotely.

I am ruuning VS 2008 on Windows XP Service Pack 3. The problem I am facing is that my windows crashes after a blue screen whenever I run a website in VS2008.Its only with websites projects in VS2008 but not with WinForms projects. WinForm applications running without any problem. This happens in this sequence that when I run the project, it starts, debugs and port is opened for my project (a popup that comes right near the system clock in taskbar) and suddenly after that a blue screen comes and Windows restarts. After restarting,
a message comes that system has been recovered from a serious, send report to Microsoft blah blah blah...Can anybody figures it out what problem there can be?

I have created a web app using Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and have come to the point where I need to publish the site onto my server (which is running window server 2008). I found that the publish function is not limited in the express edition, so published the app to a local file and FTP'd the contents across to my server. I then setup a website through the servers IIS manage and pointed it to the folder containing the FTP'd files.
My question is, how do I run the app? Do I need to point to a specific file?
I have tried to view a number of the files in browser directly from the IIS but keep getting the same standard connection error i.e. "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
I have never used IIS Manager before and I can't find a resource which gives me a step by step guide to setting up a new site which has been created by Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition, are there any config changes needed.

I have upgraded a Visual Studio 2005 Web Site in a 32 bit server to Visual Studio 2008 maintaining the same 2.0 framework in a 64 bit server with Windows 2008 R2 Server. The Web Site has several class libraries.
After porting to Visual Studio 2008 2.0 Framework using the Upgrade Wizard, I found that I was unable to hit a break point in the Project code behind files while I was able to in the class libraries. The bin folder has the dlls and the corresponding pdb files for the class libraries. I did start the Web site as an Administrator and made sure whole bunch of IIS7 properties are properly set.
I tried to rebuild the solution as a Web Application in Visual Studio 2008 and gave up that approach as I faced hundreds of error messages pointing to missing references and namespaces inspite of adding whole lot of references and namespaces to the Web.

My web site used ASP.NET 3.5 SP1, MVC 2, and EF. Last night I tried to upgrade to ASP.NET 4 (& EF4) under VS2010.
If my views are compiled (MvcBuildViews property is true), then the build fails with this error message:
Error 5 Could not load type 'System.Data.Entity.Design.AspNet.EntityDesignerBuildProvider'. C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv4.0.30319Configweb.config 129
It's actually complaining about my system web.config file.
If MvcBuildViews is false, then it will run (and compile the views normally just fine).
OS: Server 2008 R2, all updates applied at time of writing.

is there an easy way to debug an application in vs 2008 without actually logging onto my machine as different users? its a winforms app in 3.5 on xp...i know how to do the whole "run-as" option when the program is done and built, but for testing its getting really annoying! maybe something like impersonate that web apps have...anything like that for winforms?

I have a site that I am developing with VS 2008. I have a breakpoint set in my code behind file. This file is vast as some of it was created with Iron Speed 7.0. What I'd like to do is limit the debugger to the one file. That is, no matter where the code goes it skips over code in other files, and automatially breaks when execution returns to the file I put the break point in. The code is too vast to step a bit at time and choose to step into or out of bit of code. I want it to just debug the current file.
