Jan 26, 2010I have created a web app using Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and have come to the point where I need to publish the site onto my server (which is running window server 2008). I found that the publish function is not limited in the express edition, so published the app to a local file and FTP'd the contents across to my server. I then setup a website through the servers IIS manage and pointed it to the folder containing the FTP'd files.
My question is, how do I run the app? Do I need to point to a specific file?
I have tried to view a number of the files in browser directly from the IIS but keep getting the same standard connection error i.e. "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
I have never used IIS Manager before and I can't find a resource which gives me a step by step guide to setting up a new site which has been created by Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition, are there any config changes needed.

May 12, 2010I have VS 2008 with SP1 installed on Win XP. I have .NET 3.5 with SP1 installed When I ran and opened an existing project for the first time, I got the below error WebDev.WebServer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. After this error, I continusly get "Unable to connect to the ASP.NET Development Server. whenever I run the website. I checked the internet and ASP.NET forum and tried all the following Making port numbers auto assign Making it to a specific port number using the Custom web server Tried creating new web site and checking Replaced WebDev.WebServer.EXE after downloading it from a website My anti virus have not blocked any websites as such I tried resetting VS settings by running devenv /resetsettings what else might be the problem?

Oct 8, 2010I am considering an upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 Pro from my Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition while the price is still $299. I have successfully used Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition along with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition to produce websites with database backends. I am assuming that I will still be able to do this with Visual Studio 2010 Pro without any heart-stopping transitional problems. Anyone have any experiences/advice about this? And just for the record, I cannot afford Visual Studio 2010 Premium which I believe would make this a moot point.

Sql Server - Deploying A Website On DomainHut.com Hosting?
Jul 22, 2010I've called their tech support 3 times this morning and spent over $50 in long distance and have had no results. I was wondering if anybody here has deployed an ASP.NET website with DomainHut.com's hosting services. I've set up my database on their server correctly, all tables, stored procedures and aspnet schema are there just like on my local machine, and I have changed the connection string to point to the correct server, but when I publish the website using the publisher tool to upload the website to www.mhn.co/mhnprofessionalservices but I'm only getting an 500 Internal server error. They have advised me to set <CustomError Mode="on"/> in the Web.Config file, and I have <Compilation debug="false"/> as well.

Jul 9, 2010I'm deploying a web site to a server I've set up for testing. The website works great in development (Running in VS 2010) as well as in production on multiple client sites. I'm simply trying to test the site in a new environment. I simply copied the complete site (pages, code, directories, everything...) to my server. In IIS7 I created a new web site pointing to the directory containing my site's files and directories. I can open my site and my initial login page loads.
Database connections are made, page and buttons all seem great. Then, I log in. In the first line of code that attempts to instantiate an instance of a class contained in my App_Code folder, an exception is thrown, 'Invalid object name'. I've messed with as many settings as I could in IIS7 but to no avail. I've searched the internet on something regarding this, but nothing seemed to apply. At this point I'm about ready to install Visual Studio on my server to get it to run (this was the route one of the other developers took).

Jun 8, 2010I have a web site that has always run fine for years and years under 3.5. I converted it recently to run under 4.0, and it runs on Cassini fine. When I attempt to deploy the app to an IIS7 server that has 4.0 installed, all I get is "internal server error", and no error messages in the Event log, and nothing in the http logs.
I've double checked that the application pool I've deployed to is running 4.0.
It's an x64 web server and app (always has been while it was under 3.5.

Visual Studio 2008 - Website Running In IIS - Point The Website To Use Cassini?
Feb 7, 2010My client gave me this web solution, in it various projects, and the problematic project (for me) is the Web Site.
I've copied the code to test web server (2008) and installed VS 2008 so I could step through the code on the server due to some weirdness.
Anyhow, when I open the solution locally on my personal computer, it runs on Cassini [URL] because I'm not on a server OS. However, when I run the app on the web server, when I hit F5, it runs oh [URL].
When I'm running the code on the server, how do I point the web site to use Cassini?

When I setup my connection "by selecting FTP site" I have to enter my FTP username and password, VWD states that the password is sent unencypted in plain text and it can be intercepted.So is it bad form to use the "copy website" function?

Apr 8, 2010I'm trying to compile (using Visual Studio) an ASP.Net website with the Chilkat library. The compilation fails due to this error: Could not load file or ssembly 'ChilkatDotNet2, Version=9.0.8.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=eb5fc1fc52ef09bd' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
I've been told that this error occurs because of platform noncompliance. The weird thing is that although the compilation fails, the site works once accessed from a browser. My theory is that the IIS compilation uses csc.exe compiler from the Framework64 (64 bit) folder while the Visual Studio uses csc.exe compiler from the Framework (32 bit) folder. If this is acually it, how can I configure my Visual studio to run with the 64 bit compiler for ASP.Net sites? This is my current development configuration: Windows 7 (x64). Visual Studio 2008 Pro (x86 of course...). Chilkat library (x64) IIS/Asp.net (x64).
