I'm getting this strange error when i'm in SplitView or DesignView and i refresh view (i'm using VisualStudio 2010 .Net 4.0). This is happening only for this page and i have never seen anything like it, neither do i understand what is goin on.
View 3 RepliesI am getting this error, without any further details, when attempting to debug my ASP.Net project in VS2010. There are other developers using the same tools and code who are not having this problem therefore I know the problem is not in the web.config file. I have found several suggestions when googling the issue and tried them all to no avail. I uninstalled and re-installed VS2010 along with the .Net 4 framework. I made sure Anonymous as well as Windows authentication is enabled in IIS. I uninstalled and reinstalled IIS. I am at a loss. I can attach to the process and debug the ASP.Net code that way, but what I really need to be working on is a Silverlight app that is called from the ASP.Net and the breakpoints don't work in Silverlight when I attach to the process manually.
View 3 RepliesI'm getting this error: "Unable to edit file .... The style sheet must be part of the current project and the project must be a web site or web application project." I have tried it with the CSS file defined in the Site.Master file as relative (,,/,,/xx.css) and full path (e.g. c:....) I get the same error in both cases and I am unable to edit the CSS file.
View 3 RepliesI upgraded to VWD Express 2010 and cannot edit text in the design view only the source view. Clicking on the design view takes to the code behind page.
If I create a test page without masterpages I can work in design view.
i have sql server 2008 and visual studia 2008 install in my system when i open a new website project and then use the asp.net administration tool in that when i go for security tab under that one.
i want to enable roles but it displaying error that unable to connect to sql server database.
When debug a project, then error message show:
"Error while trying to run project : Unable to start debugging on the web server. The project is not configured to be debugged."
I developed a website project using visual studio 2008 and language used is c#. It was working fine till yesterday[i.e., It compiled and also i could run it using the asp.net development server by pressing ctrl+f5] and today when i tried to run it says "unable to connect to asp.net development server". I tried to reinstall visual studion 2008 and even now its not working. Also when i go to websites n asp.net configuration option it say the same error "unable to connect to asp.net development server". I absolutely no idea about why this error popped up. I got my project demo. day after n how can this be set right.

View 1 RepliesI just started getting the error message "Unable to Connect to the ASP.net Development Server" when debugging a website with VWD 2008 (everything was fine in the past). My system is Windows Vista with Windows Live OneCare firewall. I have reviewed other postings related to this problem, and they indicate firewall setting problems - settings not allowing VWD internet access. However, my settings on the "Windows Live OneCare Firewall Advanced Settings" tab specifically allow VWD.

Basically what I am trying to do is have my webpage project folder located directly on my local machine (ex. Local #1). Our database is located on a server (ex. Server #1) . I am building my web applications on my local machine and then trying to debug them in Visual Studio 2008. Only every single time I click to debug my project I get a "Security Exception" error that looks something like the following...
"Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file.
Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed."
I'm somewhat leaning towards the fact that I need to connect to the database to pull information from it and I don't have the proper permissions is the reason why this is happening but I've also read that it can be something that deals with improper configuration of my Web.Config file (i.e. I do not have something enabled).
Note #1: A co-worker of mine is having the same problem if he tries to put the project locally and then debug it. He has full administrative access to the DB and everything else.
Every time I click the start Debugging button on the toolbar, or select it from the menu, I get the message:
"Unable to start the program 'http://localhost:1098/NTTC'.
I downloaded Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition via torrent.
It was working fine for months & i formatted my comp & when i tried to reinstall it is not getting installed !
It shows the following error !
and the error log file seems to be like this...
BUT.,
I'm able to use Visual Studio & i'm able to work in it....
I'm re-installing since 2 days for more than 4 times...
Before you start using VS2010 RC, knowing that the RC version was launched with a serious bug as reported on the link below.The bug is related to the use of controls within containers in an ASP.Net application, and like almost every ASP.Net application has any container, it is impossible to migrate an application VS 2008 to VS 2010.Before you start any work or migrate to the IDE of VS2010 RC, you know this bug.

Brief style editing makes me way more productive since I am one that tends to spend most of my time in the code. Does anyone know how to turn on Brief style editing in VS 2010 or are there any plans to add it in?

View 3 RepliesI get error message "Unable to start debugging on the web server" in Visual Studio 2010. I clicked the button and followed the related suggestions without success.
This happens with a newly created local ASP.Net project when modified to use IIS instead of Cassini (which works for debugging). It prompts to set debug="true" in the web.config and then immediately pops up the error. Nothing shows up in the Event Viewer.
I am able to attach to w3wp to debug. It works but is not as convenient as F5.
I also have a similar problem with VS2008 on the same PC. Debugging used to work for both.
I have re-registered Framework 4 (aspnet_regiis -i). I ran the VS2010 repair (this is the RTM version). I am running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 box.
I do have Resharper V5 installed.
I read somewhere that MS has integrate SilverLight Toolkit into VS2010. Where is it? I can't find it under Toolbox.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to publish my mvc3 project to a web host server, I right clicked my project and selected publish, there i entered the ftp information, VS2010 uploaded the files to the ftp, but when i try to surf to the remote site i get an error "Directory Listing Denied". all guides I found requierd an installation on the web host side, is there no way to just upload the site like in classic asp?

I am trying to figure out how to use the web deploy feature in VS2010.I installed the web deploy on a 2k8 server, started the services and went to try a deploy. VS2010 is tellingh me the remote certificate is invalid according to the validation process.
I am trying this on a local VM i made so I could see if it works or not.
i have been trying the new VS2010, but i am having trouble to add to the dropdown list of frameworks the .net framework 2.0, i have installed the .net framework 2.0 and also the SDK, but nothing seems to make it to appear in the VS2010 multitargeting dropdown list. View 3 RepliesOn my development box I have VS 2010 Ultimate (64bit), SQL 2008 Express, and SQL 2008 DEV R2 all installed on the same machine. I can access either SQL with Management Studio R2 but I am having problems getting VS to open MDF files in the App_Data folder.It is trying to open them with SQL Express rather than the full version of SQL.I get an error about verion 661 is incompatable with the version installed which is 655.So what I need help with is, I guess, How do I add a program in VS for "open with" to use SQL 2008 R2? The present default for MDF files is "SqlExpress File Bootstrapper (Default)".I can't figure out where to point for it to open.I have considered uninstalling or upgrading the Express edition.
