I am constructing a wcf service, shares a data contract to client. Now, I am facing two issues.
1. The serialized Generic List data member, is having duplicate elements, specially a parent element with xml element name as data member name and child elements(since collection) with same name.
eg. if my data member in data contract is List<abc> then, the output is <abc><abc></abc><abc></abc></abc>. But expected is juts <abc></abc><abc></abc><abc></abc>... I tried adding xml element name attribute to data member. but didn't succeed.
2. ExtensionData xml element is present in the serialized response data contract even though my datacontract in not implementing the IExtensibleDataObject.
I need to convert a SharePoint List to ASP.NET, including its column filters etc.
Aside from the underlying data which will be housed in a SQL Server table, what are good control choices on ASP.NET side for this? (I'm not sure if ASP.NET Gridview will have all the necessary features.)
I am creating few WCF services. The number may be high. And we have used a pattern in each service to handle different targets. Now the issue is like each service is having 3 classes. And these three classes are similar in all sevrices with minor changes. These classes use corresponding data contracts in thier classes and the remaing logic is same. Now i am trying to reduce no of classes in each service. So I've added a class librray to solution and these classes are available in that library. And I am referring these library in each service. Since all services use this library, I am referring all data contracts in this newly created library.
My question is what is the impact of referring a dll(s) in class library. Is it ok to refer all dlls in one library and refer that library in each service? Earlier implementation is referring corresponding data contract dll in each service. Now all the data contracts are removed from services and moved to one library. Am I doing correct in terms of performance and maintainability?
I have a simple WCF service that returns the time from the server. I've confirmed that data is being sent by checking with Fiddler. Here's the result object xml that my service sends according to fiddler.
[Code]....
Literally the only difference is the namespaces within the application. But still the values being returned are null, empty or a .NET default.
On the client I want to instantiate an instance of an entity (that has a datacontract on the server side), send it to the server, let the server modify it in some way, and send it back. I'm talking about using standard-issue, ordinary WCF objects with DataContract/DataMember attributes.
The only way I could figure out to accomplish the above is to pass the object by reference. Is there another way?
In researching this, I found the links below, one of which says it is not possible to pass by ref (yes I realize we are passing a copy, but it is the result I'm interested in. Perhaps that is what the author is alluding to??).
Sorry for having to ask this but I'm confused (again).
I am converting my datatable to LISt using LINQ how do I handle nulls coming from database
List<Port> portDetails = new List<Port>(); DataTable dt = ds.Tables[0]; portDetails = (from q in dt.AsEnumerable() select new Port { PortCode = q.Field<string>("Code"), ExtCode = q.Field<string>("Nb"), Name = q.Field<string>("Name")) }).ToList();
In the above query if Code is null I do not want property portcode to be set to the value it should only set if it is not null or not blank PortCode = q.Field<string>("Code"),
What should be syntax I was trying somethign like this which doesnt work Portcode = q.Field<bool>("Code") == null ? null : q.Field<bool>("Code")
To convert the above data into unordered list based on depth, I'm using the following code
[code]...
But the resulting unordered list doesnt seem to be forming properly(using which i am constructing a tree). For example "Site " with id '180' is supposed to appear as a direct child of "Televisions" with id '1',is appearing as a direct child of 'Flash' with id '191' using my code.so in addition to considering depth,I've decided to consider itemid as well in order to get the treeview properly. Those rows of the table with itemId not equal to null are not supposed to have a child node(i.e.,they are the leaf nodes in the tree) and all the other nodes can have child nodes.
Update:
The 'itemid' column refers to the id of an item which is present in another table. This column just in identifying if an item has any sub items(i.e., 'name' in my data in this case has any other unordered lists under it).
I am using GetMethods() method to get the list of all the available methods in WCF. But it returns everything, how can I only show the methods that I exposed to client.
[Code]....
How can I filter the methods only to WCF Servicecontracts?
given a url that references an asmx how would i go about displaying all of their method names? if assembly="http://.../something/something.asmx" and i was trying to display the method names of that service what should i do now that i have gotten myself this far? i cant seem to find a solution among the hundreds of examples ive looked at
public TestReflection(string assembly) { Assembly testAssembly = Assembly.LoadFrom(assembly);[code]....
Would it be better in terms of payload, if I return a datatable as a List<DataRow> from a WCF method? I have WsHtppBinding for my WCF. I am expecting the datatable to contain 5,000 to 10,000 records.
Also, how can I test the difference in payload sizes when returning a DataTable Vs List<DataRow>?
I'm using a web service and I want to return a list to my client. I am nearly newby at web services and I can't return a List<String> object to my client. But when i call the method it says "Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[System.String]' to type 'System.String[]'" What should I do?
I need to pass a random number from 1 to 100 from the client to a webservice, and then the webservice will subtract this number from the list of 100 numbers (say 1-100). Then, in the next call, the next random number will be subtracted from the rest 99 numbers and so on.
I need this to be done with AJAX. I don't know where the Array list should be held in the first place (would it be in the web service or in the code behind? ), and how this can be done?
How can i generate dropdown lists based on what has been selected in the checckbox list. Below is an example of what i need. if the user selects the options day, lotID and waferID, then 3 cascading dropdown lists should be displayed. And then a gridview displays data based on what has been chosen in the dropdown lists.
Day LotID SlotID WaferID VendorID ToolID LocationDetected ProcessStep Stage Precipe WaferStartMaterial WaferStartVendor WaferStartLot WaferDiameterCOA WaferMapTitle BreakPoint BreakpointSide BreakpointMeasurement
I have drop down list box that I would like to show two columns, is this possible? Or can it be done with a list box?The query correctly retrieves all of the table data to be displayed, one colum is an abbreviation, the other a bit longer description.
Clicking the label of a drop down list, re-sets the selected value to the first item in the list. This has a history of causing data entry problems when users accidently click on the label.
In the below example ddlContactType has a selected value as 'PRIMARY' and whenever i click on the lblContactType Text, the dropdown box Selected value is changing to "Select One" Text.
How to prevent this one. It should be on PRIMARY Only.
I have a databound dropdownlist and have a problem with the default value it selects. When I attempt to edit a record the dropdownlist shows the first value in the list rather than the current value. I want the dropdown list to display the current value.
I'm sure this is very simple but I'm very new to ASP.NET.
