Web Forms :: Databound Item.Count Equals "1" On Page Load?

[I'm working in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 with C# Language]There is a series of forms that I'm prepopulating with data from a SQL database. Every page that I've created in this way I've coded the needed information required into the method:protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)and doesn't fire if it's a postback event.This latest form has a CheckBoxGroup that is databound and populates based on a table in the database. However, the form only prepopulates after a postback. Prior, the Item.Count says 1 when I know that there are 14 items. Again, it reads fine after the postback. I assume that this is because the CheckBoxGroup populates after the Page_Load function.Is there a way that I can make something like this fire during the Page_Load and not during the postback?

I have a form on an HTML page that a user needs to use to upload a file which posts to an ASPX page. In the code behind, I want to test if a file has actually been loaded.

I am never getting to the else. Is this just how ASP.NET operates? If I have a input element of type file, is it always going to upload a "file" even if one is not selected? What's the proper way to do this? Maybe this?

I have a DetailsView control bound to an ObjectDataSource within a User Control (.ascx). It appears that the DetailsView.OnDataBound event is being fired on every page load or postback.
I do not see this behavior with a similiar DetailsView directly placed on an aspx page.

i already have a DataList, and i get any information from the rows i need by adding code such as:

Well what i am doing there is using the values from the items that the DataList has obtained from the rows, now, what i need to do is EXACTLY the same, but for the FormView, i realised that this code does not work for the FormView, but only DataList control.
give me the code for doing exactly as shown, but for the FormView control.

I've got a repeater bound to a datasource through the code behind. Everything is working fine so far except for this, I'm trying to concactenate a bound field as the id on a query string to an image handler:

I have a "report" the users can run it basically creates a simple gridview. In the gridview the user can click on a claim ID. The claim id is then passed via url querystring to a claim management page. The claim management page uses a listview to display the various claims and allow users to edit them. I want to use the claim id passed in the url to locate the listview row to open in edit mode, so the user can make changes / alterations to the claim.

I have a simple databound dropdownlist. On top, I have a default selection, '--Please Select--', followed by another default selection, '-- Other --'. Here's the script:

I wanted to get the total row count in a GridView's databound event handler, so I tried the following:

The problem is that the grid.DataSource property is null. The DataSourceID property is not null, so does that mean that I can't access the DataSource object in the DataBound event handler unless I assign the DataSource property directly?
Edit1: Here is the code in my GridHelper class for adding rowcount to the BottomPagerRow. I would like to get rid of the requirement to pass in the ObjectDataSource, but can't because I need to use the Selected event to get total row count. Hence the reason for the question. I also think this might be better in a custom control where I can access ViewState, and/or create child controls during the Init event (I still have a problem to resolve with the way the pager renders with an extra cell), but then I'd still have the problem of how to get to the total row count when the DataSource itself doesn't appear to be available in any GridView events.
Edit 2: Not really relevant to the specific problem, but I resolved the problem I was having with the pager rendering so i've updated the code posted. I found the trick here: [URL]

last year I inherited a webapplication that seems to refuse to run on a new hosting company's servers due to a "security violation"... I've used the UrlRewriting.Net module for a couple years now without any problems in Windows XP and Windows 2003. I just recently upgraded my home PC to Windows 7 and started developing a new website.The plan was to use .html extensions and rewrite them to their .aspx counterparts using the UrlRewriting.Net module. Everything works flawlessly in VWD 2008, but when I try running it through IIS7 it is a different story.
When I try to access a page via the .html rewrite I can no longer access Page.User; it keeps returning null. If I hit the page using it's .aspx extension, Page.User is correctly populated. I should also mention that I have a LoginView controller in my Master Page and it suffers from the same symptoms: When accessing via .html extension it shows the AnonyousTemplate; When using .aspx extension it properly shows the LoggedInTemplate. I'm guessing the two are related.
[Note: I've also tried extensionless URLs and they exhibit the same problem]
The only way I've gotten it to work is to switch the application pool to Classic, which then requires me to add an ASP.Net ddl handler for the .html extension [otherwise it is handled by the StaticFileHandler and comes up as a 404 error]. However, I'd like my web app to run properly for people without having to fiddle around with IIS.So I am left with several questions:Does anyone have ideas as to why Page.User always equals null for .html => .aspx rewritten pages?
Why does it work in VWD 2008, but not IIS7?
What changed from IIS6 => IIS7 that could have caused this?
[Note: I just tried a .aspx => .aspx rewrite and it did not exhibit the problem. Not really what I want, but thought I should mention it.]

Question basically crams it all in... I'm loading a page with a querystring (ID), and I need to use that ID to set the selected item of a ListView when the page loads. The ID is a DataKey on the ListView. I have no code of value to post--none of my attempts at this work.

I want a javascript on a databound row to act on another control in the same row - show/hide for example. The classic ASP approach was to number the controls (usually by rowIndex so that they're easier to reference. I am wondering is there a way to do this in ASP.Net without writing any item command code?
So for html to render as follows
