Web Forms :: Getting Values From Gridview Buttons / Hyperlinks

Aug 3, 2010

I am a complete noob to ASP.NET (C# based) and have migrated from PHP (I have mentioned this a few times but I feel I have to 'cos some of the questions I ask seem so basic!)

I have page (Products.aspx) it has a grid view using products from the northwind DB, the grid view is paged to show 'n' products at a time and has an extra column which is basically a 'view this product' hyper link, the user can click on this link and is taken to another page (Product.aspx) which provides complete details for that particular product, so, this is what I want to do next, I want to add a button that takes the product ID, (or other unique property of the product - it doesnt really matter at the moment, but i am likely to stick to ID).

Then take that value and place it in a cookie, (I know that session variables are held in cookies, that is not really a problem at the moment, I am concentrating on basics, then I will go a little more advanced).

so, I have a button - call it productIdBtn, and its value, which is going to be the product ID, in the button on click handler, how would I add this value to a cookie - call it prodIdCookie?

I am having to re-learn everything from the ground up and because PHP is so simple to write (mainly because of its weak typing),

Using Hyperlinks And Buttons Load Table From MSSQL

Feb 8, 2012

Got a problem that I spent all last night working on and still couldn't get it. I create this table dynamically. Then I have a text box and a button. You enter the name of a table in the text box and then click the button and that will call the MSSQL server and load the corresponding table. That works fine no problem.

Then I decided to create another table that lists the tables that are on the SQL server and create a hyperlink on each name of the table. So now all the user has to do is click the name of the table save the name of the table they clicked in the querystring and it will call the same procedure as the button. I'm getting a Findcontrol error that's telling me that two id's have the same id's when I click the hyperlink and then try to load through the button. It's duplicating the controls. I've tried clearing the viewstate, and session states and that still doesn't work. Has something to do with how hyperllinks and buttons work.

Way To Use Hyperlinks That Can Pass Additional Values

Jun 17, 2010

I guarantee the title of my thread does not explain what I am looking for, but I just can't think of a better way to word it. What I have right now is an application that the user can add, search, and update various orders in the System. I've been working on the front end page, and wanted to display a summary of all orders performed this month. Right now the Orders are represented as labels (based on data pulled from the database). What i'd like to do is replace these labels with hyperlinks. I was hoping that by doing that I could somehow write some code so that when an order is clicked that the user is taken directly to the search page and that order is displayed.

Forms Data Controls :: Gridview Hyperlinks - Linking To Outside Pages?

Apr 28, 2010

I have a gridview with a hyperlink control that allows the user to save pages to it (www.google.ca, asp.net, etc). Unfortunately it always adds the server name to the beginning of their link. [URL] I was wondering is there any way to change that within the control. or should I have it pass a query string to a url handler that will response.redirect them to their actual page?

Forms Data Controls :: Dynamically Filling A GridView With HyperLinks?

Jan 20, 2011

I need a GridView with 6 columns, one of which ("ItemID") is a HyperLink who's URL and text is determined from the C# code as I will get that data from an SQL database

INITIALLY, what I wanted to do, which would have been easy as pie, is:

[Code]....

HOWEVER, this does not work because every row in the Item ID column is filled with "System.Web.UI.WebControls.HyperLink". Apparently, this is what the HyperLink's toString() method returns. Apparently, you can't just throw a HyperLink into a DataRow and call it a day. I need to know how to make this ItemID column into such a HyperLink. It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a HyperLink control, it just has to be able to call my javascript function on the aspx page, "popUp(URL)"

To give you a visualization of what I'm trying to achieve: this is a change log for an inventory system. The ItemID column indicates what item was altered. However, simply just having a number there doesn't say much, so I'm trying to create a link with the text, for example, "42 (motherboard x)". In other words reader["ItemID"] + " (" + reader["Description"] + ")", and that link will run a javascript function I have called popUp(URL) which takes a URL and opens it in a new window of specific size and location, to view that item's details.

I've tried various other methods such as disabling AutoGenerateColumns and manually create a HyperLinkField, but to no avail, because I couldn't get it to run my javascript function that way.

Forms Data Controls :: Gridview - Add Hyperlinks To Cells Programmatically?

Mar 8, 2011

we're creating a GridView to display news articles programmatically (not using a SQL database).

We can create & display the GridView, but are having a devil of the time to get the hyperlinks in SetupGrid() attached to the titles

of the articles in the GridView. Below is our .aspx code and .vb code of how we create the GridView. Any ideas on what we should do to get the hyperlinks array of strHyperlinks() in SetupGrid() to be applied to the titles in column 1 of the GridView?

Forms Data Controls :: GridView:Dynamic DataBound Column Creation With Hyperlinks?

May 10, 2010

I have a stored procedure (For Eg: sp_GetAvlData) that accepts a number of parameters, 3 of which are TimeFrom, TimeTo (as varchar) and TimeInterval (as int), formulates a Dynamic query and executes itself. So for instance, if I call the proc as follows:

[code]....

dtAvl is the datatable containing the results of my stored procedure.

The next step for me is to make each of the cells (except the cells in the first column) as a Hyperlink so that when clicked upon a cell, it populates 2 textboxes with the selected Timeslot and Name or ID (ID field is not displayed in Gridview). The textboxes are located on the same page but outside of the Gridview control.

The Challenge that I'm facing out here are:

1) As you can see, the field names being generated are not fixed and I have no control over them.

2) Because the field names are not fixed I'm not sure I can implement this using the Templatefields or BoundFields of Gridview.

Is there any way to achieve the Hyperlinking of these cells within the Gridview?

Forms Data Controls :: Multiple Linked Buttons In A Grid And Passing Values

Oct 24, 2010

I have 2 columns (name and address) in a gridview which are defined as linked buttons. Now when i click on a record in the first row (name) i am able to pass that value (selected name) to another page with rowcommand. Now i am trying to click on the second row (address) on a record but am not able to pass that value to the second page. Don't actually know how to define this in the code below. The first row (name) has to redirect to one page (this what i have already accomplished) and the second row (address) has to redirect to another page

<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Name">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="LnkBtnName" runat="server" CommandArgument='<%# Container.DataItem("Name") %>' Text='<%# Eval("Name") %>' CommandName="go" >LinkButton</asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Address">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="LnkBtnAddress" runat="server" CommandArgument='<%# Container.DataItem("Address") %>' Text='<%# Eval("Address") %>' CommandName="go" >LinkButton</asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
Protected Sub GridView_RowCommand(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewCommandEventArgs) Handles GridView.RowCommand
Dim strName As String = CType(e.CommandArgument, String)
Response.Redirect(String.Format("Test.aspx?id={0}", strName, False))
End Sub

CODE ON PAGE II:

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
LblName.Text = Request.QueryString("id")
End Sub

C# - Binding HyperLinks To GridView Using AutoGenerateColumns?

Jan 17, 2011

I have a DataTable which has columns that are generated dynamically at runtime. This DataTable is bound to a GridView that has AutoGenerateColumns set to true. I've run into a problem with this since some of the data in the DataTable are HyperLink objects, so instead of displaying the actual link in the table, it displays "System.Web.UI.WebControls.HyperLink".

Normally, I would just use a HyperLinkField in my GridView, but since the GridView's columns are generated automatically, I'm not sure how to do this.

Forms Data Controls :: To Get Paging Buttons Into Gridview ?

Dec 27, 2010

We have a page the we have to write where users are shown 'pages' of data from our database they then select the row they want and we take them into another part of the application where they can work with the data.

When we use the built in paging (in the gridview) it is just too slow, as there is too much data.

We have written paging into our stored procedure that gets the data to work around this. The stored procedure works just fine and it is quite fast.

How can I get 'paging' buttons into my gridview when I am not using the built in gridview paging?I can keep it simple if I have to (next and previous only) but it would be better to have a 'first', 'previous', 'next', 'last' type buttons.

I cannot seem to figure out how to get these buttons into the gridview however.

some sample code (preferably vb) that would show this? (or something similar)

Built in paging is not an option.
