C# - Binding HyperLinks To GridView Using AutoGenerateColumns?

Jan 17, 2011

I have a DataTable which has columns that are generated dynamically at runtime. This DataTable is bound to a GridView that has AutoGenerateColumns set to true. I've run into a problem with this since some of the data in the DataTable are HyperLink objects, so instead of displaying the actual link in the table, it displays "System.Web.UI.WebControls.HyperLink".

Normally, I would just use a HyperLinkField in my GridView, but since the GridView's columns are generated automatically, I'm not sure how to do this.

How To Get Width Of Gridview Column When AutoGenerateColumns Is True

Jan 25, 2010

I have a gridview that I need to get the width of columns for after the gridview is databound. I have to have AutoGenerateColumns=true because the columns for the datatable that the gridview is bound to is not going to be fixed. The problem I'm having is the gridview columns collection is not populated when AutoGenerateColumns is true. Is there anyway I can get the width of each column after the gridview is databound? I've tried using RowDataBound and going through the tablecells but the width is 0 for every column.

Formatting Data In A GridView With AutoGenerateColumns="True"?

Mar 14, 2010

VWD 2008 Express. Visual Basic.

I have a gridview that is bound to a SqlDataSource. I programmatically change the selectcommand of the datasource, and then allow the gridview to autogenerate the columns, headings, etc. I want to set the DataFormatString for one of the columns to "{0:d}" (shortdate) before the gridview is displayed. This would be no problem if the datasource was fixed, as I could edit the column with the wizard and set the DataFormatString of the bound column. How can I do this programmatically with my dynamic gridview?

Web Forms :: Getting Values From Gridview Buttons / Hyperlinks

Aug 3, 2010

I am a complete noob to ASP.NET (C# based) and have migrated from PHP (I have mentioned this a few times but I feel I have to 'cos some of the questions I ask seem so basic!)

I have page (Products.aspx) it has a grid view using products from the northwind DB, the grid view is paged to show 'n' products at a time and has an extra column which is basically a 'view this product' hyper link, the user can click on this link and is taken to another page (Product.aspx) which provides complete details for that particular product, so, this is what I want to do next, I want to add a button that takes the product ID, (or other unique property of the product - it doesnt really matter at the moment, but i am likely to stick to ID).

Then take that value and place it in a cookie, (I know that session variables are held in cookies, that is not really a problem at the moment, I am concentrating on basics, then I will go a little more advanced).

so, I have a button - call it productIdBtn, and its value, which is going to be the product ID, in the button on click handler, how would I add this value to a cookie - call it prodIdCookie?

I am having to re-learn everything from the ground up and because PHP is so simple to write (mainly because of its weak typing),

Forms Data Controls :: Dynamically Filling A GridView With HyperLinks?

Jan 20, 2011

I need a GridView with 6 columns, one of which ("ItemID") is a HyperLink who's URL and text is determined from the C# code as I will get that data from an SQL database

INITIALLY, what I wanted to do, which would have been easy as pie, is:

[Code]....

HOWEVER, this does not work because every row in the Item ID column is filled with "System.Web.UI.WebControls.HyperLink". Apparently, this is what the HyperLink's toString() method returns. Apparently, you can't just throw a HyperLink into a DataRow and call it a day. I need to know how to make this ItemID column into such a HyperLink. It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a HyperLink control, it just has to be able to call my javascript function on the aspx page, "popUp(URL)"

To give you a visualization of what I'm trying to achieve: this is a change log for an inventory system. The ItemID column indicates what item was altered. However, simply just having a number there doesn't say much, so I'm trying to create a link with the text, for example, "42 (motherboard x)". In other words reader["ItemID"] + " (" + reader["Description"] + ")", and that link will run a javascript function I have called popUp(URL) which takes a URL and opens it in a new window of specific size and location, to view that item's details.

I've tried various other methods such as disabling AutoGenerateColumns and manually create a HyperLinkField, but to no avail, because I couldn't get it to run my javascript function that way.

Forms Data Controls :: GridView:Dynamic DataBound Column Creation With Hyperlinks?

May 10, 2010

I have a stored procedure (For Eg: sp_GetAvlData) that accepts a number of parameters, 3 of which are TimeFrom, TimeTo (as varchar) and TimeInterval (as int), formulates a Dynamic query and executes itself. So for instance, if I call the proc as follows:

[code]....

dtAvl is the datatable containing the results of my stored procedure.

The next step for me is to make each of the cells (except the cells in the first column) as a Hyperlink so that when clicked upon a cell, it populates 2 textboxes with the selected Timeslot and Name or ID (ID field is not displayed in Gridview). The textboxes are located on the same page but outside of the Gridview control.

The Challenge that I'm facing out here are:

1) As you can see, the field names being generated are not fixed and I have no control over them.

2) Because the field names are not fixed I'm not sure I can implement this using the Templatefields or BoundFields of Gridview.

Is there any way to achieve the Hyperlinking of these cells within the Gridview?

C# - Binding DataTable To GridView, But No Rows In GridViewRowCollection Despite GridView Population?

Jun 2, 2010

I've coded a GridView in the markup in a page. I have coded a DataTable in the code-behind that takes data from a collection of custom objects. I then bind that DataTable to the GridView. (Specific problem mentioned a couple code-snippets below.)

GridView Markup:

<asp:GridView ID="gvCart" runat="server" CssClass="pList" AutoGenerateColumns="false" DataKeyNames="ProductID">
<Columns>
[code]....

Goal: I'm basically trying to find a way to update the data in my GridView (and more importantly my cart Session object) without having to do everything else I've seen online such as utilizing OnRowUpdate, etc. Could someone please tell me why gvCart.Rows is empty and/or how I could accomplish my goal without utilizing OnRowUpdate, etc.? When I execute this code, the GridView gets populated but for some reason I can't access any of its rows in the code-behind.

Binding Xml Data Into Gridview Using C#?

Mar 24, 2010

I have a XML file which contains a list of items/elements:

[Code]...

I can bind the data into a gridview. However, only the attributes are displayed(which is: category and ID). I need the elements to display out too (which is: Name,Description,Latitude and Longtitude).

Would anyone be kind enough to solve this problem for me?

And is it possible to populate a drop down list in using the same XML file? As in populating the category in the drop down list.
