Web Forms :: Hidden Validation Controls Take Up Space?
Aug 19, 2010Is there a way to make the validation controls stop taking up space on the web page even if they aren't visible?

View 2 RepliesI have a page with several asp labels with no text. I use a click event to add text the fields that have related values from a datareader. In my code I state that if column value of the datareader is null, then make the label visibility false.
[code]....
That all works fine, but then when I render the page, white space where the hidden labels are located is shown.is it possible to remove the blank white space when labels have null values and are visually hidden?
I've noticed that all of the text boxes in the template fields of by details view don't all line up exactly the same. I'm floating all of them to the right so I had originally expected them to line up the same. I've also noticed that the text boxes that have two validation controls, such as a REV and RFV, are further to the left than the ones that only have one validation control.
Is this because of the space that the validation control needs to render the , or what ever is chosen to be rendered? This explanation seems to match the pattern.
I placed some validation controls on my grid view template. The only problem is that it is taking a lot of space vertically.
View 2 RepliesI am currently working on an invoice report which may or may not span across multiple pages. I have a header which I have setup to only be displayed on the first page, and a footer which I have setup to only be displayed on the last page. The problem is, the hidden header/footer reserves unwanted whitespace and messes up the report layout (see the screenshot). The black areas represent space that is reserved by the header/footer. There must be a simple way to remove this unwanted space.
View 2 RepliesI have a form in MVC3 that includes a check box to copy data if it is the same as a previous form. If the checkbox is checked, it populates the text box with the content from the hidden field. Here's a sample to illustrate what I'm doing:
[Code]....
When the box is checked, it calls FillInfo(), which uses DHTML to fill the TextBox called "ThisInfo" with the value of the hidden field "DefaultInfo."
Here's the problem: if the form fails validation (e.g. "ThisInfo" is a required field and is left blank), the hidden "DefaultInfo" box is getting cleared out -- which I DON'T want it to do. As a result, when the checkbox is clicked, it is copying empty data into the "ThisInfo" field.
I am using one datalist control for uploading multiple images.I hv used one Asp:FileUplaod Control and one button in one itemtemplate.I am using reqired field validator and regular expression validator for file upload cntrl I am assigning validation group for both of them on ItemDataBound event of my datalist so that each upload cntrl hv same validaton group as required field and regular expression validator.Now what i want to do is - i want to show my error message in validation summary which is right at the top of the page.I want one know how to write javascript that will assign validation group of my control in datalist on which i click ?
View 1 Repliesi'm writing a stored proc and if a field i return is longer then 200 characters, i want to truncate, find the last space, remove any characters after that space, then add some full stopseg:

View 3 RepliesI have a problem with DataSet.GetXml() in ASP.NET 4.0:
First I populate the dataset with some tables.
Then I run the .GetXml() method on the dataset and some XML is returned. The output of this method is not want I want it to be, however.
The desired result is this:
[code]....
How do I stop this from happening? I mean, how do I stop the cell from being included at all?
In ASP.NET 1.1 the same code is used and the desired output is returned. This means that it is probably some new thing in 4.0 that I have to switch on/off. But what?
Is it possible to do client side validation on a detailsview (insert or edit) without using validation controls? I.E. somehow capture the onClientClick event of the autogenerated Insert/Update link buttons to call my javascript function?
View 1 Replieswhen i create a chart, it renders with lots of white space around the actual chart itself, especially below the legend. how can i adjust this?
View 3 RepliesI want a textbox in which no space can be entered. how can i filter 'space' from my textbox
View 3 Repliesi don't know english very well sorry about that and my question isi have datalist in my web page like this
<div style="height: 550px;">
I set the CellPadding and CellSpacing properties to 0 and BorderStyle to 'None' on my gridview.
I set up a hover event on the row so that the entire row is highlighted on mouse over. When this happens, I can still see a gap between the two columns.Am I missing a property setting here?
I know this might be a trivial question but I can't find how to do it...
I want to increase the space between the columns, there barely is any space, the columns are just very near each other...
I found an useful link which show tutorial for setup Gridview export to Excel.http://archive.aspsnippets.com/post/Export-GridView-To-WordExcelPDFCSV-in-ASPNet.aspxIt works well but if I want to preserve white space for certain boundfield, after the excel export, I got merged cell for every row. how do I avoid the merged cells?

I am having problems with rendering differences between a gridview control and a local report .rdlc rendering. The dataset shows different spacing between characters in the dataset visualizer than it does in the gridview. The sql reporting services report is more closely rendering what is shown in the visualizer. The dataset is filled From a DAL and then bound to the gridview and reporting service at runtime. I'm currently using VS2008 and programming in VB.
View 6 Repliesif we enter text without space in text box and then display it in gridview then it doesn't break in multiline and disturb all GUI. i try to set column width but it doesn't working.
View 6 RepliesI have a custom user control which contains a asp hiddenfield object. The value of this hidden field is being set using javascript and I have verified that the value is being set properly. When a postback occurs the new value is not being saved and I cannot access it in my code.
I believe the problem is because the user control is not saved in viewstate and therefore the hidden field value is not saved accross postback. How can I make the hidden field save its value? I tried accessing it from the early page cycles and still no luck.
I have 5 fields on my web form out of which 2 are hidden. i have to validate all of them so i have associated required field validator with all of them. it works fine it does not shows me the error message for the controls that are hidden at that point of time.now i added a custom validation control and when this validation fails all the error messages are shown... can some body please tell me what am i doing wrong and what is the best approach that can be followed in this case.
View 13 RepliesNeed to get access somehow to a by-row value that keeps each row's key. The value can not be displayed as column. The Recovery the value is to be used on a later separate Insert. I need to capture this by-row 'hidden' value on the SelectedIndexChanged event.
how hide this key value so I can recover it on Grid Row Selection?
