Web Forms :: How To Dynamically Create And Populate HTML Table
Dec 10, 2010
I've created a static table, which looks just as I would expect it to, but I want to reduce my work in the future, as I'll need to create more rows and columns to store extra data that's added to my application.
So rather than creating new rows and columns whenever I need to, I'd like to automate the task by pulling the data from the database and populating a table that's dynamically created based on how much data is pulled.
e.g. if there are 10 rows of items in the database, create 10 columns and 10 rows, if a further 5 things get added next week, I want to add another 5 rows and 5 columns etc
Is this where "Dynamic Data" would play a role? If so, it's completely new to me, my needs are just for a single table on a page, not something that needs to be done en'masse all over the website, if that makes a difference?

I have two tables, Users and Roles. The roles table is a reference table for the different roles of my site (RoleId and RoleName columns). The Users table contains profile data for each user, including a RoleId column that is FK'd back to the Roles table [RoleId].
Both tables are in a Linq to SQL model.
I have an edit page created which lists all the profile values of a user. The edit page inherits the User model. One of the editable values is the RoleId field. I want to set this up to be a drop-down list that contains items labeled using the RoleName column of the Roles table, and matched with values of RoleId.

Precisely and concisely, I have aspx page that has only one button "Generate". If the user clicked on this button, one HTML page should be created.
The created HTML page should have title "Home" and the Body should contain "Hello World".
1) What is the code that should be written inside "Generate" button in order to accomplish this functionality?
2) Assuming the HTML page gets created, How to store it inside specific folder on the local drive? Or how to store it inside DB?

I am trying to create a dynamic table that is being built based on the value of a search text box. The Table will have probably 6 columns of 20(max) rows.
My problem is I can't figure out how to return the data from the web-service to the JS function in a way that will allow me to extract the data that I need.
Here is the web-service method I have currently:

I put this in the aspx.cs of the form I am doing, but, since I haven't found a way to call variables from the ASP, I recreated them, still, even if I did get those, this problem would still exist:
private void DrawPicture(Bitmap bitmap)
{
System.Web.UI.WebControls.Image PictureFinger;
int PictureFingerW = 248; [code]....
The ImageURL doesn't take the image, but the URL. So, how can I save the image into a variable?

I have an html table with rows and cells. And I have dynamically created a label and would like to assign the label to one of the cells of the table. What I am doing is I have a JavaScript which executes a code behind method and it would not accept an already created asp.net label. So I have created the asp.net label programmatically but cant assign it to the table to display the text value of the label. Below is the code:
[System.Web.Services.WebMethod] public static void EndCandiateTest(){
try { totalTestMarks = ts.RetrieveResults();
grade = tsp.RawScoreAndGrade(totalTestMarks);
remarks = tsp.ScoreInterpretation(totalTestMarks);
testResults = "Raw Score: " + totalTestMarks.ToString() + "
Grade: " + grade + " Remarks: " + remarks;
ts.ShowResults(testResults);
} catch (Exception e) {
} }
protected void ShowResults (string results). I want to display this label in an already existing html table.
messageLabel.Text = results;

I want to know how we can create a table (or a layout consisting of div's) and poulate it with data from the database. We do this generally using data controls like gridview, datalist etc. But i am restricted by these controls like there is no inbuilt paging with datalist and there is no repeat column in gridview. I just want complete control over the layout as well as the data that goes into it.
I dont know how to do this. Is there anyway of doing it without using the data controls.

I am trying to get some values from a List and then create a html table with this data but I can't get it to work properly.
I have:
HtmlTable table = new HtmlTable();
HtmlTableRow row;
HtmlTableCell cell;
foreach(var item in Name)
{
row = new HtmlTableRow();
foreach(var familyName in item.familyName)
{
cell = new HtmlTableCell();
cell.InnerText = item.familyName.ToString();
row.Cells.Add(cell);
}
foreach (var givenName in item.givenName)
{
cell = new HtmlTableCell();
cell.InnerText = item.givenName.ToString();
row.Cells.Add(cell);
}
table.Rows.Add(row);
}
this.Controls.Add(table);
When I step through the debugger I can see that row.Cells.Add(cell) contains the family name in the first loop and given name in the second loop but then something seems to be wrong and I can't get the table to show up on the page with this data.
When I check the table.rows.add(row) it says that "base {System.SystemException} = {"'HtmlTableRow' does not support the InnerText property."}"

I would like to send an Html email. The body for this email I would like to create completely dynamically. How do I create an html page completely from scratch so that I then have a page that I can add controls to? Do I create an instance of the System.Web.UI.Page class, add my controls to it and then render it as a string that I can assign to the message body?

I need to create a table with just 1 column containing times (starting from 4hrs) which increase in increments of 10 seconds for each row. So it needs to look something like this:
04hrs 00mins 00secs - 04hrs 00mins 09secs
04hrs 00mins 10secs - 04hrs 00mins 19secs
04hrs 00mins 20secs - 04hrs 00mins 29secs
.....
06hrs 59mins 50secs - 06hrs 59mins 59secs
This will obviously take a long long time to hard code so I'm looking to create it dynamically. Based on what i'm currently trying to learn I'd like to be able to do this using jquery or asp.net (vb) but anything will do as long as it works!
