C# - Trying To Create A WebService To Return A 3D Array To Populate Table With JavaScript?
Feb 4, 2010
I am trying to create a dynamic table that is being built based on the value of a search text box. The Table will have probably 6 columns of 20(max) rows.
My problem is I can't figure out how to return the data from the web-service to the JS function in a way that will allow me to extract the data that I need.
I know i've seen a tutorial for this, but can't locate it anymore. I have a class Employee in c# side, I also have a webservice where I pass in an ID# and an Employee object is returned. Now I want this object returned to Javascript code, I know I've seen it done before, can someone point me to a tutorial that shows something like this being done. I'm using the MicrosoftAjax.js file.
I'm calling a web service called GetTooltip from inside Javascript. However, since the web service is called asynchronously, it doesn't wait until I get the return value from the web service, before it continues again. This is a bit of a problem for me, since the web service is in a for-loop. How do I make the Javascript wait until I hear back from the web service, before letting Javascript continue the for-loop?
I created a very simple webService using the VS2008 template. i am planning to use Ajax call for the webService.when i try to open my webservice in IE browser using following link to see the Javascript proxy, it return blank page.[URL]
I am struggling to create a webservice method using LINQ technology and to populate a dropdown in a form. Here is the Webservice code.
[WebMethod]
public string[] GetAllCountries() { LinqClassesDataContext db = new LinqClassesDataContext(); var q = from c in db.ListContinents()select c; return q.ToList() ; }
And here is the form code behind
protectedvoid Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { WSClass WS = new WSClass();//bool ds = WS.GetAllCountries(); var v = WS.GetAllCountries(); ddlContinent.DataSource = v; ddlContinent.DataBind(); }
I've created a static table, which looks just as I would expect it to, but I want to reduce my work in the future, as I'll need to create more rows and columns to store extra data that's added to my application.
So rather than creating new rows and columns whenever I need to, I'd like to automate the task by pulling the data from the database and populating a table that's dynamically created based on how much data is pulled.
e.g. if there are 10 rows of items in the database, create 10 columns and 10 rows, if a further 5 things get added next week, I want to add another 5 rows and 5 columns etc
Is this where "Dynamic Data" would play a role? If so, it's completely new to me, my needs are just for a single table on a page, not something that needs to be done en'masse all over the website, if that makes a difference?
Iam getting an array of list from database to client side(javascript array). Now my aim to place those values in a div one by one and that div should attach to the textbox similar to Autocomplete extender.
I am trying to consume an array of strings from a webservice that I wrote. I keep getting the error: "System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
I know I am doing some thing wrong at an extremely basic level, but it's not coming to me.
I have tried adding New but get the error that you can't declare arrays with New
Here is the dummed down webservice method:<WebMethod( _ Description:="Testing ")> _ Public Function TestArray(ByVal Address1 As String, ByVal zip As String) As String() Dim strTest(4) As String strTest(0) = "It's" strTest(1) = "a" strTest(2) = "great" strTest(3) = "day" Return strTest End Function <--Here is the call that generates the null reference error-->
Private Sub FindAddress() Dim svc As ws.Service Dim strAddresses() As String strAddresses = svc.TestArray(txtAddress.Text, txtZip.Text) End Sub
I want to know how we can create a table (or a layout consisting of div's) and poulate it with data from the database. We do this generally using data controls like gridview, datalist etc. But i am restricted by these controls like there is no inbuilt paging with datalist and there is no repeat column in gridview. I just want complete control over the layout as well as the data that goes into it.
I dont know how to do this. Is there anyway of doing it without using the data controls.
I have a array of ArrayList as shown below:ArrayList[] m;My web service method takes this type as parameter.How can I send it to web service?When I do so the Web Service changes my array of ArrayList to Object[][]!
public List<Customer> GetCustomers() { PR1Entities dc = new PR1Entities(); var q = (from x in dc.Customers select x).ToList(); return q; } (customer is a entity object)
Then I generate the proxy when I add the service.. and in the reference.cd it say
public wcf1.ServiceReference1.Customer[] GetCustomers() { return base.Channel.GetCustomers(); }
I need to create a table with just 1 column containing times (starting from 4hrs) which increase in increments of 10 seconds for each row. So it needs to look something like this:
This will obviously take a long long time to hard code so I'm looking to create it dynamically. Based on what i'm currently trying to learn I'd like to be able to do this using jquery or asp.net (vb) but anything will do as long as it works!
i have application with 2 cascading dropdownlists that got populated using web service, when a value was picked in the first one the second filled with values, now when the second one got selected i want to poulate listview with images links.
Suppose I have the string like String sample="{K,S},{T}". Then splitting with "," I need the output of the string array. The string array is having items {k,S}, {T}. how to split the above string with "," separated.
I have to set GridView.DataKeyNames(This is really a question about the syntax for a string array, in VB.Net.)
I am discovering the PrimaryKey columns names from within a loop, ie:
For Each fld As IEntityField In Me.llbDataSource.EntityCollection(0).PrimaryKeyFields 'fld.Name ' this is where the column name is stored, so I have to get this into an array Next I can not use this syntax.
So, basically, how does one declare a string array (as required by GridView.DataKeyNames), and then populate the elements of the array from within a loop?
How can i read multiple column values into an array list? I am trying to read a list of category names and category ids from database into an array list; i am then binding these values into drop-down list. With my current code, i am able to do with one column only but would like to pull both cat_name and cat_id so how can i do that?
I have function called getdoctor () in asmx file I wannna call this webmethod from javascript and get the result into flat text i.e i wanna get the name doctor name not in neither in xml or json
i have a data library dll and first is it possible to use it in webservice forexample i call it as using DataLibrary; then in web method i will use it like
public boolean MethodName(int a) { if(DataLibrary.Method(a)) return true; else return false; }
and also i have to tell my all data connections are in DataLibrary.dll
my second question is i will use webservice to communucate with flash i will send flash a DataSet but flash cant read DataSet so i have give it as XML right?
so how could i change my following method which returns dataset to return xml ?
I am trying to return some data as json from an action method.
I have an employee object that looks like this:
public class Employee { public int EmployeeID {get; set;} public string FirstName {get; set;} public string LastName {get; set;} //Other irrelevant properties }
Then I have a view model as follows
public Class EmployeeViewModel { public Employee Supervisor{get; set;} public List<EmployeeViewModel> Employees }
I need to return a json object that looks exactly like this:
For now I only need to go to the second level as above, returning and supervisor and their staff members beneath them.
How would I go about returning this in my action method(I have the viewModel object hydrated already I just need to return it as json). My problem so far has been that the children property does not get populated.
