We all know ho to to in html :

I know this is kind of simple in my head but the logic has been driving me nuts going through it. I'm trying to build a string from 2 list boxes. Once they select an item in the first list box (that's pulling the list items dynamically from a database), then the second list box appears. Once they select the second list box the video player below it displays a flash video that they chose based on which camera and the date/time of that particular camera. The path for the flash video (.flv) is in the database. I get everything to work up to displaying the flv player but it doesn't play the video since the path to the flv isn't there. Here is the code I currently have along with the queries.

Split the input string based on the separator list passed. Returned string list should have separators in it.
.NET API needs to be implemented
string [] SplitWithSeparators( string inputText, string[] separators)
Input
inputText: passed string
RAMESH EMPCODE 001 SURESH EMPCODE 002 GIRISH EMPCODE 003
Separators: passed string[]
string [0] : TRINATH
string [1] : SHARATH
string [2] : SRIDHAR
THIS OUTPUT I SUPPOSE TO GET
Output
string [0] : TRINATH EMPCODE 001
string [1] : SHARATH EMPCODE 002
string [2] : SRIDHAR EMPCODE 003

I need to order a list of items, by a string value...
e.g. 635, 955, 5820, 1010 should appear as 635,955,1010,5820, however it shows up as 1010, 5820, 635, 955 because it's a string and not an integer.
I cannot convert to integer, it must eb a string value. how this can be done simply using a string value?

I have this code in my controller for Index view..
public ActionResult Index(int? id)
{
_viewModel.ServiceTypeListAll = new SelectList(_bvRepository.GetAllServiceTypes().ToList().OrderBy(n => n.ServiceTypeName).ToList(), "ServiceTypeId", "ServiceTypeName");
return View(_viewModel);
}
Using this I am able to dispaly all the ServiceTypes in my view in dropdownlist box. the code is
<%=Html.DropDownList("ServiceTypeListAll", new SelectList(Model.ServiceTypeListAll,"Value","Text"))%>
When I am trying to get the Selected Dropdownlist value from View to controller I am acceesing like this..
string categoryName = collection["ServiceTypeListAll"]; // collectoin refers FormCollection
I am expecting CategoryName should be string like what ever I am showing in Dropdownlist box.
I am getting Integer values?

Data annotation to validate an inbound model in MVC:
public class ValidNumber
{
[RegularExpression(@"^d+$", ErrorMessage = "*")]
public string number { get; set; }
}
Would I need to create my own class to validate a List<string> or can I do something like this? What code could I write in C# to add a Regex validator for a list of string?
public class ValidNumberList
{
[RegularExpression(@"^d+$", ErrorMessage = "*")]
public List<string> numbers { get; set; }
}

I have a string which is stored as a cookie. The string is made up of the following data:
int userId
DateTime expiryDate
A user can have a number of these, so I store them like this "userId,expiryDate$userId,expiryDate"
When I retrieve the cookie value, I then split the string and add it to a list. The list is List<OpenReviews> openReviews, which contains the two variables above. I use the following piece of code to split the string:
string[][] reviews = value.Split( '$' ).Select( f => f.Split( ',' ) ).ToArray();
As you can see it goes to an array which I then have to iterate through to add it back into my list. All of which seems extremely long winded. I believe I can use the code above to put it into an IEnumerable<IEnumerable<string>> format. The problem is I don't know how to then get it into my List<OpenReviews> I'm therefore looking at getting the split string into my OpensReviews list as efficiently as possible.

I have a dropdown list that won't populate data values from database using sql datasource. When i use the code behind, i was able to populate the data to the dropdown list. I dont know how to pass the Query String Parameter using code behind since i am new in asp.net. This is the code behind:
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Partial Class PhotoAlbum
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Dim oConn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;" & _
"AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF;" & _
"Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True")
Dim oCmd As New SqlCommand()
Dim oDR As SqlDataReader
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
oConn.Open()
oCmd.CommandText = "SELECT [CategoryID], [Name] FROM Categories ORDER BY [Name]"
oCmd.Connection = oConn
oDR = oCmd.ExecuteReader()
Me.categories.DataSource = oDR
Me.categories.DataTextField = "Name"
Me.categories.DataValueField = "CategoryID"
Me.categories.DataBind()
oDR.Close()
oConn.Close()
End Sub
End Class
I will like to include the following information from sqlDatasource to the codebehind:
SelectCommand="SELECT [CategoryID], [Name] FROM [Categories] WHERE ([UserId] = @UserId) ORDER BY [Name]">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:QueryStringParameter Name="UserId" QueryStringField="ID"/>
As you can see from the code behind, i was able to add :
"SELECT [CategoryID], [Name] FROM Categories ORDER BY [Name]".
But i will like to add all of this:
SelectCommand="SELECT [CategoryID], [Name] FROM [Categories] WHERE ([UserId] = @UserId) ORDER BY [Name]">
<SelectParameters>

I have the following object:
CrossTabDataObject
{
string RowName{get;set;};
int RowId{get;set;}
List<string> CellContents = new List <string>();
//Constructor..... etc.
}
I'm building a dynamic crosstab grid using GridView in asp.net 3.5
I wish to bind to CellContents[0] for dynamic column 1, CellContents[1] for dynamic column 2 (dynamic column 0 is the RowName field from the CrossTabDataObject) etc. I am using:
object boundValueObj = null;
Control ctrl = (Control)sender;
IDataItemContainer dataItemContainer = (IDataItemContainer)ctrl.NamingContainer;
boundValueObj = DataBinder.Eval(dataItemContainer.DataItem, strSelectedID);
This code is in the InstantiateIn function of the gridview as I'm creating drop down list templates in each cell of the crosstab.
I have code (not shown) that sets strSelectedID depending on the column being created.
When strSelectedID is equal to "RowName" for dynamic column [0] the DataBinder.Eval function works fine and sets boundValueObj as expected. The problem comes when strSelectedID is set to "CellContents[n]" where n is the Column Index.
DataBinder.Eval only works with properties and fields of objects. How do I get around this?

I'm trying to bind a List<String> to a DropDownList in a user control. I think I'm doing the right thing, but it seems that after my code executes the bindings are cleared. Here's the code for review!
User control:
<asp:DropDownList ID="subjectNameDropDown" runat="server"/>
<asp:DropDownList ID="yearLevelDropDown" runat="server"/>
Auto-generated designed code-behind:
public partial class NewSiteMetadataUserControl {
protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList subjectNameDropDown;
protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList yearLevelDropDown;
}
Code-behind:
public partial class NewSiteMetadataUserControl : UserControl
{
protected override void CreateChildControls()
{
subjectNameDropDown = new DropDownList();
yearLevelDropDown = new DropDownList();
}
protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e)
{
base.OnLoad(e);
EnsureChildControls();
// Attempt 1
List<String> subjectNames = GetSubjectValues();
foreach (var subjectName in subjectNames)
subjectNameDropDown.Items.Add(subjectName);
subjectNameDropDown.DataBind();
// Attempt 2
List<String> yearLevels = GetYearLevelValues();
yearLevelDropDown.DataSource = yearLevels;
yearLevelDropDown.DataBind();
}
}
Should this approach work? If it should, how can I debug what happens after the code executes?

I have a list of strings where by each string is a url to a pdf document. All I want to do is cycle through this list and display each url as a hyperlink on my page. I've seen this done before in MVC where the collection is made avaliable to the view and you can just do a foreach etc etc but I don't know how to do it on a normal asp.net page...

I am using VB.NET and I can't compare the radio button lists selectedItem.Value to a string, it doesn't work...here is the code: (I have also tried selectedValue it does not work either)
Response.Write("RB1: " + rblOne.SelectedItem.Value + " FML FML FML<br/>")
If rblOne.SelectedItem.Value = "No" Then
Response.Write("Hey there!<BR/>")
pnlR1.Visible = True
If NumberOfAnswers = 7 Then
Score = Score - 10
ElseIf NumberOfAnswers = 6 Then
Score = Score - 15
Else
Score = Score - 20
End If
Response.Write("Score: " + Score.ToString)
End If
Response.End()
If rblOne.SelectedItem.Value = "No" Then is not working, notice the debug statements in there, here is the output: Why won't it evaluate that rblOne.SelectedItem.Value = "No" !?!?!? I tried rblOne.SelectedValue, that doesn't work, AND I added .ToString to both
