Feb 13, 2011

Is it possible to create a list from a string which is comma separated ?

So the list would look like

Dim list1="Coffee, Tea, Milk"

Output would be :

1. Cofee

2 Tea

3 Cofee

We all know ho to to in html :

<ul>
<li>Coffee</li>
<li>Tea</li>
<li>Milk</li>
</ul>

I just can't find an example of converting the string?

Web Forms :: String And StringBuilder - Any Change Updates Memory Location Rather Creating New

Oct 19, 2010

String is immutable and StringBuilder is mutable. So if I change the value of a string a new memory created with the new value, whereas in StringBuilder it updates its memory location rather than creating a new memory location. So for large concatenation stringBuilders are preffered. But when I create a new String object, a fixed memory is created. And any changes will update its memory location, rather than creating a new memory location.

For e.g.
String s = new String();
s = String.Empty;
for ( int i=0;i<100; i++)
{
//s = s + "test" + i.ToString();
s =string.Concat(s, "test" + i.ToString()); ///This is effecient compared to previous step
}

Now instead of String class I will use a StringBuilder class.

StringBuilder s = new StringBuilder(String.Empty);

for ( int i=0;i<100; i++)
{
//s = s + "test" + i.ToString();
s.append( "test" + i.ToString());
}

Creating Search Using More Than One Dropdown List?

Mar 1, 2010

i would like to add a search module in my web application. I would like to use drop down list. I would like to know how to connect more than one drop down list in the same page to produce a result.

Example :

Holiday Type : Honeymoon,shopping (select in a drop down list)
Budget : 300-400, 400-500, 500-600 (select in a drop down list)
Result : a suggested holiday pakage (from database).

I'm new to asp.net. I think that 'if else' method can be used. Would be nice if anyone could share any related source codes.

The string is returned to a Flex Application.What I'd do is export the csv to the server disk and give back an url to Flex. Like this, I can flush the stream writing to the disk.Update:String is build with a StringBuilder:

StringBuilder stringbuilder = new StringBuilder();

Web Forms :: Building A String From 2 List Boxes?

Jan 13, 2010

I know this is kind of simple in my head but the logic has been driving me nuts going through it. I'm trying to build a string from 2 list boxes. Once they select an item in the first list box (that's pulling the list items dynamically from a database), then the second list box appears. Once they select the second list box the video player below it displays a flash video that they chose based on which camera and the date/time of that particular camera. The path for the flash video (.flv) is in the database. I get everything to work up to displaying the flv player but it doesn't play the video since the path to the flv isn't there. Here is the code I currently have along with the queries.

C# - Creating A List Of Checkboxes Using MVC For A Table Without A Primary Key?

Mar 14, 2011

I have a table that get populated via an external text file. I am not sure of the exact process as I'm relatively new to the company.

The table does not have a primary key as the entire table is dumped and re-loaded every quarter when there is a new text file.

Enter ASP.NET MVC. I need to display that table with checkboxes in a grid so the user can select some rows and send it back to the server. It sounds relatively easy, but I am really not sure what to put as the value for the checkboxes as I am pretty sure I'll need to use multiple columns to create a unique. Yep, I know, I know :).

OldTable
- Field1
- Field2
- Field3
...
- FieldN

The View

...
<input type="checkbox"
name="bunchOfStuff"
value"Field1Value,Field2Value,Field3Value"/>
...

Would something like this work? If I can create a key with a few fields, can I use those fields as the value in the checkbox? I realize my action will be a bit ugly as I'll have to split and parse each value in the array of values.
