I have a search textbox and when I type something to search, it shows up the lists of related items from database.
If I type "Zio" on textbox, it displays:
Zion, henry
Zion, khery
Zion, malle
Zion, henry
Zion, khery
Zion, henry
What I wanted: I want to count and display those records with the count values. e.g
Zion, henry (3)
Zion, khery (2)
Zion, malle (1)
How can I achieve this ?

I'm a complete novice in .NET. I am trying to implement a multi textbox / dropdowns / checkboxes search for a website using vb.net. How do I pass the values of my form fields to my griedview and display the search result on the same page?
I've written a stored procedure and specified it as data source for my gridview and defined parameter source as my CONTROLS (textboxes, checkboxes n dropdowns) on the form. What I want is when a user fills out one or multiple fields on the form, how do I display data in the gridview on the click of SEARCH button? Also is it necessary to write a codebehind for my search button or we can achieve the desired result in some other way?

i have a sqldatasource which will return 1 field (1 row) for an ID. I need to get that result and display it on a textbox. I would do it using a stored procedure (this was already made) but i was thinking sqldatasource is easier. Is there a way to bind that result onto my textbox?
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="ds1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:conn1%>"
ProviderName="<%$ Connectionstrings:conn1.ProviderName %>"
SelectCommand="sp_1"
SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:Parameter Name="accountID" Type="Int32" />
<asp:Parameter Name="activitydate" Type="DateTime" Direction="Output" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>

Let's say I have a gridview with some columns like, title, name, funding agency. Here's an example of what I want to do:
I want to display all the records in the gridview to start. There would be a dropdownlist that lets the user select whether to search by title, name, funding agency and a text box that lets them type in what they want to search for (and a button to start the search). After searching, the gridview would only display the records that matched the criteria.i already know how to connect datasets to the gridview, but i am using mysql database and writing code in vb.how to accomplish this task

a table with related records (above is showing tapes, with different shots on the tapes). I already have the tapes data with the URLs working so not worried about that - just how to show the related information. Doesn't have to be exactly like this - but all the information must be visible at the same time ie no click to view or hover over.

how to access related columns in a dropdown list? In the example below I have a dropdown which is bound to a list of countries, I know how to access the text & value fields but how would I access data such as "Region"? I know I could do this by spinning through the list until CountryCode on the lsit and selected item match but wondered if there was a better way.

I've searched for about a day and a half and have not been able to find an explanation that I can understand, so please forgive me if this is something you have seen/answered before.
I have a web site that uses the App_Code folder. There are several CS files and classes in that folder. All of this works fine up to this point. However, I wrote an extension method with its own class and file. This fails with the following ambigous reference error (the app is in C#):
Compiler Error Message: CS0121: The call is ambiguous between the following methods or properties: 'GSGeneral.ExtensionMethods.IsNumeric(string)' and ''GSGeneral.ExtensionMethods.IsNumeric(string)'
If I change the extension to a plain static class, there are no problems with it. Based on that, it seems like this is related to it being an extension method.Now I know a work around is to move the file out of the App_Code folder - I've tried it and it works. My question is why does this have issues when all of the other items in the App_Code folder do not.
