Web Forms :: Usercontrol Gets Rendered Before Postback Is Finished?
Dec 17, 2010
I have a webpage with two usercontrols. Usercontrol1 displays the time and the Session["Username"].
The default Session["Username"] is 'guest', which will change as soon as you are signed in. Usercontrol2 is the sign in form. The webpage doesn't cache so everytime you should get a "fresh" page?
The follow happens when a user signs in: In usercontrol1 the Labeltime gets updated but labelWelcomeUsername doesn't.

Is there a way (without overriding Render) to get the Rendered HTML output of a UserControl? What if the UserControl as a control tree with other controls in it?

I have a page with an UpdatePanel with a UserControl in it. That UserControl contains a GridView with a nested UserControl that seems to disappear when the parent UserControl is rebound. I cannot for the life of me figure out why the child UserControl disappears. The code works beautifully on the first load, but any partial postback causes the "Pick" UserControl to disappear.

I am using TreeView Control in Asp.net. I have placed this control inside a panel. The tree control is completely binded (we don't want populate on demand) with an Xmldatasource during a callback and then I call Panel.renderControl to return the response (HTML) to the client side callback handler. Problem: 1. The tree expand/collapse (on click of plus sign) is causing postback whereas when I normally bind a tree with xml during postback and without using renderControl of container control, the expand/collapse (on click of plus sign) is being handled at client side. I want to stop this postback and allow tree node to call javascript to toggle nodes as it does when tree is binded and renderd in case of normal page life cycle.(when render control function is not used)

In the UserControl I am adding dynamic ImageButtons depending on the condition When the page loads and I click on Edit button I have no problems and btnEdit_Click is fired. But after that (btnEdit id removed and btnSave is added) when I click on btnSave the btnSave_Click event does not fire. What could be the problem?

I have several usercontrols which are loaded based on business logic.However, all of them have webcontrols whose selected/entered value needs to be accessible in parent page on an event.Since there can be any combination of UserControls, I do not want to load all the UserControls in the Parent Page, since they are heavy.
I would like to load only those controls which are supposed to appear on the page, yet access the value from the usercontrol which caused the postback. (I would rather not access using Request.Form) (ViewState is open, but unsuccessful to store value in parent page's viewstate in onClick)Here is a sample scenario
Page: Home
Dynamically Loads: UserControls1
UserControls has TextBox tb and Button btn, causing onClick
When btn is clicked, I want to get value of tb in parent page on PostBack, Page creates UserControl2

I'm having few UpdatePanels on my master page. And then, I have RadTreeViewcontrol on the page, that should cause partial postback each time node is clicked. Everything works fine there. Since I'm using the same tree on some other pages, I moved this functionality to UserControl. Stuff I've done before, so no problem. Moved some code to ascx, created some events. Everything always worked for me well. But not now. RadTreeView is nested inside UserControl, and this control on master page with update panels, see below:
<asp:Panel ID="pnlContentWrapper" runat="server" CssClass="ContentWrapper">
<div id="HeaderBreadCrumb">
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="HeaderBreadCrumbContent" runat="server" />
</div>
<div id="HeaderMenu">
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="upnlTreeMenu" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="HeaderMenuContent" runat="server" />
</ContentTemplate>
<Triggers>
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="treeProductTree" />
</Triggers>
</asp:UpdatePanel>
</div>
<div id="TreeDiv">
<fp:ProductTree ID="treeProductTree" runat="server" />
</div>
<asp:Panel ID="ContentDiv" ClientIDMode="Static" runat="server">
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="upnlTreeContent" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="TreePageContent" runat="server" />
</ContentTemplate>
<Triggers>
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="treeProductTree" />
</Triggers>
</asp:UpdatePanel>
</asp:Panel>
</asp:Panel>
And the user control is really simple:
<%@ Control Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="ProductTree.ascx.vb"
Inherits="ProductTree" %>
<div>
<telerik:RadTreeView ID="treeProductTree" ClientIDMode="Static" runat="server" EnableDragAndDrop="false"
SkinID="CustomSkin" CssClass="MasterProductTree" DataFieldID="NodeId" DataFieldParentID="NodeParentId"
DataTextField="NodeName" DataValueField="NodeId" />
</div>
And some code behind:
Imports Telerik.Web.UI
Public Class ProductTree
Inherits System.Web.UI.UserControl
Public Event NodeExpand As EventHandler(Of ProductTreeNodeExpandEventArgs)
Public Event SelectedNodeChange As EventHandler
Protected Sub ProductTree_NodeExpand(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As RadTreeNodeEventArgs) _
Handles treeProductTree.NodeExpand
Dim nodeId As Integer = CInt(e.Node.Value)
Dim evetArgs = New ProductTreeNodeExpandEventArgs(nodeId)
RaiseEvent NodeExpand(Me, evetArgs)
//'some logic
End Sub
Protected Sub ProductTree_OnNodeClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As RadTreeNodeEventArgs) _
Handles treeProductTree.NodeClick
RaiseEvent SelectedNodeChange(Me, New System.EventArgs())
End Sub
End Class
What I don't know is: why is this causing full postback instead of partial? I suspect that it may have something to do with raising my for SelectedNodeChange, but I don't know how to deal with it other way. I need to let other components know, that node selection changed. How can I improve this to make it work with UpdatePanels?

I have a jQuery UI dialog which has a usercontrol in it, which I get by .load of the page it is in. It is a simple calculator.You pick several numbers and then click a button, a postback happens and finally you get the result in to two lables.When I click the button inside the dialog, the postback happens and I see the result in the original page, not the dialog.

I've created a Web User Control that is placed on the page at design time. It's purpose is to pop up with a grid of items the user is to choose from. So I've got a gridview on it. And this code in the usercontrol:
Public Property DataTable() As Data.DataTable
Get
If Not IsNothing(ViewState("_SelectGridDataTable")) Then
Return ViewState("_SelectGridDataTable")
Else
Return Nothing
End If
End Get
Set(ByVal value As Data.DataTable)
ViewState("_SelectGridDataTable") = value
End Set
End Property
So when the user clicks on a button on the page, I put this in the code on the page:
SelectGrid2.DataTable = GetContacts().Tables(0)
SelectGrid2.Show()
And this works fine. The grid pops up (using jQuery) and the grid is shown. The problem is, that when the user clicks the "OK" button on the UserControl, the ViewState("_SelectGridDataTable") is always nothing. And I don't get it, since it's in the viewstate.. ?!? So does viewstate here not REALLY mean viewstate?

I've searched high and low for some resolution to this problem. Hopefully someone here can explain!!I create a usercontrol that uses .NET web controls, but I want to create a smoother user experience by avoiding full postbacks, so I write some JQUERY to capture click events on the client and in this way do the processing without going back to the server.
$("#tblLedgerEntries :checkbox").click(function () {
var value1 = $(this).closest("tr").find("td.invoiceAmount").html();
var value2 = $('#<%=hdnTotalToPay.ClientID%>').html();
CalculateTotalPayable(value1, value2, $(this).attr("checked"));

I'm working on adding a todo list to a project system and would like to have the todo creation trigger a async postback to update the database. I'd really like to host this in a usercontrol so I can drop the todo list onto a project page, task page or stand alone todo list page.
Here's what I have.User Control "TodoList.ascx" which lives in the Controls directory.
The script that sits at the top of the UserControl. You can see where I started building jsonText to postback but when that didn't work I just tried posting back an empty data variable and removed the 'string[] items' variable from the AddTodo2 method.
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
// Add the page method call as an onclick handler for the div.
[code]...
I can have a control that can be used to display multiple todo lists and create a brand new todo list as well.When I click on the #divAddButton I can watch it build the postback in firebug but once it completes it runs the error portion by alerting 'error'. I can't see why.
I'd really rather have the response method live inside the user control as well. Since I'll be dropping it on several pages to keep from having to go put a method on each individual page.

I have a usercontrol that is in an asp.net page that contains a button. The event on the button does a simple response.direct all is fine if the page doesnt contain a query string however if the page contains a query string. e.g. default.aspx?id=12345 then the postback doesnt occur on the button.
Is this a common issue? what do I need to do to enable postback on the button if there is a querystring?

I have UserControl and within that control i have asp:ListView. Inside the ListView i have a asp:LinkButton. When i click on the LinkButton the control raises full postback, no matter if the UserControl is inside UpdatePanel or is not.
UserControl:
<asp:ListView ID="lvImages" runat="server" OnItemCommand="lvImages_ItemCommand">
<ItemTemplate>
<div>
<asp:Image runat="server" ID="imgImageThumb" ImageUrl='<%#Eval("Image") %>' GenerateEmptyAlternateText="true" />

I have a page where I add a dynamic user control in the Page_Load event based on criteria.
The control is a simple form with a save button. The problem is the _Click event never fires for the button. It will postback the main page the control is within, but not the code behind for the control...so I never get the button click even, and therefor can't execute the save code.
Tried it in the init, tried adding the control to a placeholder, tried a lot of various things but nothing seems to work.
Code:
If cb_business_profile.Items.Count = 0 Then
Dim u_pnl_content As UpdatePanel = Page.FindControl("u_pnl_content")
u_pnl_content.ContentTemplateContainer.Controls.Clear()
Dim business_profile_detail As Control = LoadControl("~/controls/business_profile_detail.ascx")

I have a page that has a note to the user about the file they're about to download and a button to click to start the download. When they click the button, it does a Response.Redirect to another page with the following code in its Page_Load:
Response.Clear()
Response.Buffer = True
Response.AppendHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment; filename=" & FileName)
Response.AppendHeader("Content-length", FileSize.ToString)
Response.ContentType = "application/download"
Response.WriteFile(Page.ResolveUrl(FilePath))
Response.Flush()
Response.End()
I want the download to start and then I want this page (which is a tab in the browser) to close.
The code to download the file works fine. I just can't figure out how to close this tab when it's finished. I understand that Response.End means that I can't put any more code this page; it will be ignored. But how do I get this tab to close?

i have a very strange issue with a user control we are dynamically loading on an asp.net web page(.net 2.0). the user control has 3 dropdowns, one of which has a selectedindexchanged event attached to it (which loads the third dropdown with a set of values).
the weird thing is, if there are currently any invalid fields (where field validators have been activated) in other parts of the form, when you go to select the drop down in question on the FIRST change it does nothing, but then when you change the index again it works perfectly! i dont understand how the event wont fire for the first change, but for every change thereafter.
However, if all these fields are filled in correctly above the usercontrol, it fires off the selectedindexchanged event correctly.
in regards to validation i have disabled ALL POSSIBLE validation in order to try and eliminate it as a culprit, so i dont understand how validation can be affecting the usercontrol.

Anyone ever try to print the finished output of a wizard control? That is, after the user fills out all 5 steps of the wizard, the user clicks "print" to print all the data from steps 1-5. Normally, a bit of javascript will do the trick, but each time you go to a new "step" the page is refreshed and controls are added/removed from the page.
So if nametxtbox is in step one, when you click step two the control is removed from the page. If I could just pull the values from steps 1-4 from whereever they are stored (session state?) that would probably be good enough. I could load all the values on one page & run some javascript from there.. Not sure where to go from here..hoping for someone will be able to guide me in the right direction...

I have a button that opens up the <div "moveMe"> with a AnimationExtender. The code works fine.
Now, inside the <div> there is a Panel1 that is Visible="false". This needs to be invisible while the <div> is opening up because the Panel1 holds alot of controls and stuff which makes the animation extremely slow.
The task I am wondering is, how it is possible to make this Panel1 Visible="true" when the animation is finished?
