I work in VS 2008. Whenver I add a server control(Label) and set it properties in aspx.vb and build the solution, I get the error "Label1 not declared". While analyzing this issue I noticed that the event handler statements for the Label1 where not added in the designer.asp.vb file. These statement would actually be added automatically when I drag and drop a control to my webpage.
I would also like to inform the scenario after which this problem came to me. I was working in VS 2008 , VS 2005 and VS 2003 in the same machine.Could this have caused the issue ?
Now each and everytime when I add a control, I am adding the "With Events" code in the designer page to make my build succesfull which makes me to spend more efforts.
I am working on the migration of the server. Our new server is Windows server 2008 with IIS7.0 I have a great difficulty in browsing the pages hosted in virtual directories. I have followed the proper steps of creating a virtual directories and converting them into applications. But when i try to browsing the pages of the virtual directory, i get the 404 error. Note: The .Net Framework 4.0 is installed on the server and the web applications which i am trying to configure in the virtual directories are developed in Visual Studio 3.0. Even the http://localhost also don't work.

What I am doing right now is I have a dev machine where I have the solution for the old web app (1.1) usually if i have to add new pages to the app what I used to do is add .aspx pages in the dev mechine and compile the solution generate new dll's and copy the .dlls and .aspx pages to the server used to work fine.
Now I needed to add a page. I did the same thing some how the server is not reconizing the new page I have created. what Should i do to make the server recognize the new page?
I did IISRESET it did n't work.
I have hosted my project in the remote server. i pasted all the dlls & all the necessary files into inetpub->wwwroot ->httpdocs->(pasted all files). In the server we have .net framework 3.5 and IIS 6.0
Now I just want to check whether my files are running locally on the server. So I did the following. Just opened the IIS, made the httpdocs folder as a virtual directory. And then I clicked the httpdocs.It displayed all the files it has in the right side pane. Then I right clicked the default.aspx and then I clicked browse. Now the browser opened with the URL http://localhost/httpdocs/default.aspx. But I could not able to see the aspx page.It just shows "The page is not found"
But when I tried the same steps for opening a .html page it works fine (http://localhost/httpdocs/test.html) I can able to view the html pages.
Whether I need to configure anything on the IIS.... What should I do to view the .aspx files
I mean, it's easy to add a Button programmactically to an aspx page, but a server control's event handler probably has to be set early in the page life cycle (maybe before Control.Load event). As a result in reality, are dynamic controls rarely added to apsx pages?I wish there is a way to call postback at the server, so that a event is never too late.
View 2 RepliesI wrote a test page that does a bunch of busy work in a method called at page load. This process as I have it now takes around 12 seconds.
If I try to load another page while the first long running page is loading, this second page doing nothing except writing out a world, it doesn't load until the first long running page is finished.
Why is this the case? I would think IIS would be able to handle multiple concurrent connections, it seems crazy that one long running page would stop every other page in the application from loading. I must be missing something or not understand how IIS works.
I would think multiple independent requests would be spawned on different threads. Is this only the case if the requests are from different sessions entirely? Are all requests from a single session bound to a single thread?

I am having menus on the left side of the master page.I am also having the html pages related to the menu link. Based on the menu selection i would like to show the corresponding html pages as a content to the right side of the master page.
The html pages shoud need to be shown just like the other webforms are shown on the right side of the master page pased on the menu selection.

View 4 RepliesHow do i get the pretty URL with an ASPX pages. I have listed a couple links below and their associated print page url. As you can see it resembles the Class instantiation method of declaring object but is used for a webpage with its extension.
I was wondering if this method can be used or if this is a URL rewrite to mask all the querystrings and sub directories being referenced. I remember doing stuff like this when i was working on a UNIX system using the .htaccess file to mask effective query
string being shown. I believe they called it a Clean URL, i maybe wrong as it has been well over 8 years since i dealt with the Unix .htaccess file and massaging urls with it.
For instance, look at the MSDN site pages:

As you can see they are not visually passing query strings but more like Class parameters. Is this just a simple URL rewrite after the page is loaded so the user doesnt see the query string information?
Quick question... Is it possible to programmatically create and .aspx file on the fly, complete with Master page and user controls?
If it is, can anyone point me in the direction of how this can be done?
is there any alternative to use regions in ASPX pages?
View 6 RepliesI am trying to add aspx pages to my website which already has Asp Pages. I made a virtual directory and pointed to existing website where I have placed new Aspx files along with previous Asp files. Now when I try to execute the file. It runs good in first attempt, however, when I click a couple of times of "click me" button browser keeps on processing and does displays my message again.

I initially ran this code in Visual Studio 2008 and it executed well. Later on i transferred my files along with existing Asp Page? Version configured in IIS for ASp.Net is 2.0.50727 Visual Studio 2008 To clarify further, I would like to know, if I am proceeding in right direction to excute my Aspx pages along with Asp? Secondly, why does my browser keeps on processing if I click the button second or third time ? I am not getting exceptions or errors.. And have no idea of reading logs for the program..

I've got a pretty simple problem but I am not sure what is the best way to accomplish this. I've got an input aspx where a user fills in about 15-20 input fields and I want to display this information on the next page however; I am not really sure what is the best way to go about doing this?
I tried using 'Server.Transfer' and 'FindControl' API calls but have struggled to use them because the value is always null because it cannot find the asp:textbox ID I have specified from the previous page.
What would be the best way to just simply transfer the values from my previous page to the next page??

I need to display c#, vb.net or any source code on a web page. The source code that will be displayed should indented, colored as we see in any IDE. I am not sure how would i achieve this. View 3 RepliesI always create a folder "App_Pages" and use it ot put my aspx pages but I see with VS 2010 that it has several default folders created when adding a page. Which one is most applicable. Is it App_LocalResource? I assume that "App_Code" is where custom classes go.
View 3 RepliesI want to use the login component with forms authentication, but i don't want to use the whole package. I have a database with users in it, and i create the users manually, through another section of my site. I will authenticate them using my own functions, in the Authenticate event.
But, specifying the forms authentication in web.config, i seem to recall having seen somewhere, that i could add pages that were protected, while the rest of the site wasn't.
How do i do this? Currently, i have only 1 page that i want to protect.

I am adding text fields to a page from the database. I set the .ID to match the record ID from the database. Of course becasue the text field is on the masterpage, when I grab the .ClientID, it is ctl00 contentMain$ctl00. what I don't get is where is my ID? If I set it to say AB how do I find the textbox by AB? I thought it should have AB in the ID somewhere. ID is nothing which I don't get either. I'm looping through the controls in a placeholder like this
