I am trying to place a dropdown control in a field of the datagrid so that a drop down appears in each row and I can use that to edit the row instead of using the ID value in the row fields.. I have converted the required field i,.e. Type into a templatefield.
View 2 RepliesI have come across an issue with my DataGrid loading several drop downs. The idea is I initially wanted it to load the drop down on the OnClick event of my DataGrid, however I realised there is no OnClick event (I come from a windows form development environment). Considering the time it may take to load this drop down may be extensive (which is why I wanted this drop down to be loaded individually, only when user clicks it) I came up with another idea of wrapping the Grid in an ASP Update Panel so I load all the drop downs in the PageLoad() event.
My question is, is this the correct thing to do? If I am loading 100 drop downs wouldn't it be better to load the drop down objects indivdually as opposed to all at the same time? How do I load a drop down based on the OnClick event of a DataGrid?
Tried using the OnSelectedIndexChanged() event but doesn't seem to fire the event after I click on the row. Ideally I want something like when the user clicks on a row, I want to load the drop down associated with that row. Is this possible?

I have a datagrid which displays a list of user data, such as name, his or her status, age. I have created a list of rows of user data but where the column shows status for example Single, Married, i want it to create a dropdown list where i can easily change the user status by selecting it from a dropdown and clicking the update button at the top of the datagrid. The update button will update all records that have been changed not just from the dropdown. I assume the dropdownlist requires a columnbinding event but i can't find any straight forward tutorials.

Everything that I can find online seems to only show the use of the dropdown list control using a data grid. I would like the selectedvalue of the dropdown to display additional data base on its selection in multiple text boxes.
I have tried using the DropDownList OnSelectedIndexChanged property, within a DataGrid EditiItemTemplate, but I cannot retrieve data from the selection. (AutoPostBack is "True"). I can however use a button onclick event to fire a "prre-defined" selection value.

I know that the datagrid control loops through a database table from the first row to the last, but I want it to loop from the last row to the first. How can I do that? Also I wanted to know how could I drop some rows according to my needs while looping from end to start, so that the datagrid only displays those rows that I need to display?

When I click my delete button inside the grid, I am getting an invalid postback message. How should I handle this? My control raises one event by the way.
