Web Forms :: How To Find A Generic User Control That Checks For Silverlight
Apr 29, 2010
Is there a generic control that can be added to all aspx pages that checks for silverlight plugin and the version.. I know there is javascript and the silverlighthost object tag that accomplishes this. Is there an existing ascx control that wraps this functionality ? I need to be able to set the path to the xap on each page (via a property on the ascx control).

I would like to take blank secure stock paper and convert it in to a check.
I know you can get magnetic toner and print MICR.
The question is What is the actual font to use or should i get a package and send the data to it to print the check?

I have a main silverlight control named MainPage.xaml in an asp.net web site.
I want to dynamically add and remove control at run time.
So, I have created another control Top10.xaml and added to selected canvas area on MainPage.xaml as described on this page(Click Me):
Now i need to modify Top10 visibility in MainPage.xaml dynamically when a button is clicked on MainPage.xaml using C# code in MainPage.xaml.cs.

I have a Silverlight application hosted in an ASP.NET site, through which I'm starting an HttpWebRequest to a Generic Handler in order to save a CSV file to the user's machine.
From the Silverlight app, a Uri is constructed with parameters to make the CSV file server-side. A button is clicked which triggers the following:
string httpHandlerName = "HttpDownloadHandler.ashx";
// CustomUri handles making it an absolute Uri wherever we move the handler.
string uploadUrl = new CustomUri(httpHandlerName).ToString();
UriBuilder httpHandlerUrlBuilder = new UriBuilder(uploadUrl);
httpHandlerUrlBuilder.Query = string.Format("{3}startdate={0}&enddate={1}&partnerId={2}", startDate, endDate, partnerId, string.IsNullOrEmpty(httpHandlerUrlBuilder.Query) ? "" : httpHandlerUrlBuilder.Query.Remove(0, 1) + "&");
HttpWebRequest webRequest = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(httpHandlerUrlBuilder.Uri);
webRequest.Method = "POST";
webRequest.BeginGetResponse(new AsyncCallback(GetResponseCallback), webRequest);
Now here is the ProcessRequest code from the HttpDownloadHandler.ashx
public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
{
_httpContext = context;
string partnerId = _httpContext.Request.QueryString["partnerId"];
string startDate = _httpContext.Request.QueryString["startDate"];
string endDate = _httpContext.Request.QueryString["endDate"];
ExportCsvReport exportCsv = new ExportCsvReport();
_csvReport = exportCsv.ExportMemberRegistrationReport(partnerId, startDate, endDate);
context.Response.Clear();
context.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=Report.csv");
context.Response.ContentType = "text/csv";
context.Response.Write(_csvReport);
}
Here is the HttpResponse header information that comes back when the Save File Dialogue refuses to appear:
{System.Web.HttpResponse}
Buffer: true
BufferOutput: true
Cache: {System.Web.HttpCachePolicy}
CacheControl: "private"
Charset: "utf-8"
ContentEncoding: {System.Text.UTF8Encoding}
ContentType: "text/csv"
Cookies: {System.Web.HttpCookieCollection}
Expires: 0
ExpiresAbsolute: {1/1/0001 12:00:00 AM}
Filter: {System.Web.HttpResponseStreamFilterSink}
HeaderEncoding: {System.Text.UTF8Encoding}
Headers: 'context.Response.Headers' threw an exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException'
IsClientConnected: true
IsRequestBeingRedirected: false
Output: {System.Web.HttpWriter}
OutputStream: {System.Web.HttpResponseStream}
RedirectLocation: null
Status: "200 OK"
StatusCode: 200
StatusDescription: "OK"
SubStatusCode: 'context.Response.SubStatusCode' threw an exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException'
SuppressContent: false
TrySkipIisCustomErrors: false
When I navigate to localhost/HttpDownloadHandler.ashx while the site is up, without initiating it from within the Silverlight app - the Save File Dialogue appears just fine, it seems to be a case where Silverlight is not accepting the response header properly.

In Asp.net Web forms why must a user control be partial? I tried to remove the partial keyword and it says: Missing partial modifier on declaration of type 'test'; another partial declaration of this type exists
Where is the other declaration?I am trying to pass a generic type with the user control how can I do that? I can't unless I change the other declaration too. I couldn't find it so I removed the partial keyword.Note:
you do have 3 files if your making WebApplication but if your making website you only get 2 files?
UserControl.ascx
UserControl.ascx.cs
so in website where is the other declaration?the reason i want generic is because im making a Grid User Control so i want to pass the type the datasource is going to have.

I have a user control which has a Gridview and a listview, I want to make this control generic so that I can just pass the type of the class I want to edit, which would be a linq entity, and then it would automatically do the rest, so far I havent had any success and I was wondering if anybody knows a tutorial or some info about doing this?

Most likely the later, I think. In my page I have a GridView, DatailsView, and the ODS. None of my commands work. For the Udate command I get a an error "ObjectDataSource 'ObjectDataSource1' could not find a non-generic method 'UpdateVirtual' that has parameters: name, notes, active, original_ident." For the Delete command I get "ObjectDataSource 'ObjectDataSource1' could not find a non-generic method 'DeleteVirtual' that has parameters: ident, original_ident." Yet the Insert command in the DetailsView works fine. Originally I've copied a file that performs virtually identical task, the only difference is a different database and the Select command. I had the Delete command working for for while but that one too broke. Can someone point out what I'm doing wring?

I have a simple user control that I have placed inside a repeater. I want to access it through the ItemDataBound event of the repeater. Here's my code so far:
[Code]....
Not so sure what to do about all of this. I have developed a simple calendar using an XML doc and a repeater. The parent repeater contains a child repeater that lists events based on the date. I have a User Control that has some unique capablities for control the date in a link button. I want the user to click on the User Control and be able to use the information to do something. Bottom line, I want to access the linkbutton inside the repeater.

I have built a WCF Service that is being consumed by a Silverlight app. At first I created one method that was very simple:
public String SfTest()
{
return "SF Test";
}
No poblem. My silverlight app references my service and displays "SF Test" in a textbox. Now I add a method to my wcf service like this:
public List<String> GetTest()
{
List<String> list = new List<string>();
String a = "a";
list.Add(a);
String b = "b";
list.Add(b);
return list;
}
I update the reference to the service in my Silverlight app and the using statement in my xaml cs page throws an error like the service doesn't even exist although it is there. I am assuming the problem has to do with datatypes or serialization or something like that but it is driving me up the wall. Why can't I consume a simple generic list in my Silverlight app through the WCF service.

I have this ASP.NET code:
<asp:DropDownList

DataSourceID="srcBrokers"
DataTextField="broker"
DataValueField="brokerId"
/>
<asp:ObjectDataSource

SelectMethod="GetBrokers"
runat="server">
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
My DAL code:
public DataTable GetBrokers(bool? hasImport=null)
{
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("usp_GetBrokers");
if (hasImport.HasValue)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@hasImport", hasImport);
return FillDataTable(cmd, "brokers");
}
When the form loads I get this error:
ObjectDataSource 'srcBrokers' could not find a non-generic method 'GetBrokers' that has no parameters.
Is it my optional parameter that is causing the problem? How can I workaround this? Is it possible to have optional parameters with declarative ASP.NET code?

Part of a web application we have uses an in-house web control assembly. This assembly contains several web user controls where several of these are used by other web controls within the same assembly.
The assembly is built as a website with a web deployment project.
The main web application's pages are dynamically compiled through a service into a single assembly and placed into the appropriate bin folder. In our development server the old assemblies aren't always tidied up and removed, meaning the folder gets full of old assemblies.
When the page that uses the in-house web control assembly (mentioned above) runs, the asp.net instance throws an out of memory as it loads all the old assemblies in an attempt to determine which assembly houses the reference to the user control being used by the other user control inside the same assembly.
We've been using the following inside the top level user controls to register the other controls
<%@ Register Src="~/....ascx" TagPrefix="UC" TagName="...." %>
Of course when the application runs this gives no information as to which assembly it can find it in.
Is there anyone that's come across this problem before? It's not really a problem as our live servers use a clean up tool to remove old assemblies, but there are still potential situations where we could get out of memory caused by this (for example the tool stops working!), so it would be nice to resolve this problem.
Here is the stack trace

So all I want to do is simply find a user control I load based on a drop down selection. I have the user control added but now I'm trying to find the control so I can access a couple properties off of it and I can't find the control for the life of me. I'm actually doing all of this in the master page and there is no code in the default.aspx page itself.
MasterPage.aspx
[Code]....
MasterPage.cs
protected void goToSelectedPage(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
temp1 ct = this.Page.Master.LoadControl("temp1.ascx") as temp1;
ct.ID = "TestMe";
this.UpdatePanel1.ContentTemplateContainer.Controls.Add(ct);
}
//This is where I CANNOT SEEM TO FIND THE CONTROL ////////////////////////////////////////
protected void lnkSave_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
UpdatePanel teest = this.FindControl("UpdatePanel1") as UpdatePanel;
Control test2 = teest.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("ctl09") as Control;
temp1 test3 = test2.FindControl("TestMe") as temp1;
string maybe = test3.Col1TopTitle;
}
Here I don't understand what it's telling me. for "par" I get "ctl09" and I have no idea how I am supposed to find this control. temp1.ascx.cs
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string ppp = this.ID;
string par = this.Parent.ID;
}

I have an object on my asp.net page hosting a Silverlight xap (in my particular case it is in an IFrame, but I'm curious about regular objects as well). I can find the element in UI Spy, but the name just says "Silverlight Control". Trying to find that AutomationElement in my automated test is unsuccessful (control is null every time).
