What is the easiest way to reset all the controls on a web form. Can I set "veiw state" to false for all of the controls with one command, do a response-redirect to its own page, and set view state back to true. What is the easiest way to do it.

After installing a third-party application and add-in for VSTS 2008, it has corrupted my menus/buttons by duplicating/cascading these throughout studio (i.e. Multiple sets of each menu - File, Edit, View, etc, each of which has multiple submenu entry sets). I have tried to use Add-In Manager to uninstall it and removing the application (which added the Add-in to VSTS). I tried Tools->Customize and resetting the MenuBar and ContextMenu options as well. I tried running each of the following (closing and then reopening VSTS after each) from the command prompt, which completed but did not fix things.

devenv /resetuserdata
devenv /setup
My question then, does anyone know a way to reset the menus/toolbars for VSTS 2008 to their defaults or correct this some other way? I know I can unistalll both products and resolve this but I *really* want to be able to use the third party app (Red Gate's SQL Prompt).
I have a couple of fields on a form that will be populated with default values. I would like to put a button that will allow me to reset those fields to their default values if they have been modified. However I would like to avoid the postback so that I don't have data being sent to the database. Is it possible to add a javascript hook such that when that button is pressed I can pull the default values and populate those fields in javascript?

View 5 RepliesThe following action in my controller does not update the Model property which is bound by a radio buttons group (all are named "ListType") when the form is submitted. On the Edit.ASPX form, I used JQuery to reset the radio buttons group. When setting other type of input elements on the form to blank or checked=false, those Model properties are set accordingly upon submission. Does anyone know how to set radio buttons to unched state?
Also I am trying to get the SqlException to show up in my form where I have Html.ValidationSummary helper. My ModelState helper captures the know business rules violations, but I am unable to pass any SqlException and its Message property to this helper class due to unexected exception.

I have this simple example here and I want to insert a new CarDetail into the database but for some reason I cannot get the EntityKey to work in EF4 and Framework4 beta 2.
If i declare the following
car_detail.CarTypeReference.EntityKey = new System.Data.EntityKey("MyDB.CarType", "Id", 1)
Each time i try to call SaveChanges, it throws a INSERT constraint error saying that there is a conflict between CarType and CarDetail with the FK. It just seems like the hard coded 1 for CarType is NOT being passed through but instead the default value of 0. What is going on?
If i call car_detail.TypeId = 1 then it works fine with the INSERT.

In my detailsview, I have an emptydatatemplate set up to allow users to enter new records. The code works. However, once the record is inserted, the detailsview defaults to a standard insert screen. I know this will cause confusion for the users. I would prefer the detailsview to either show in edit mode or a read-only mode. I have used detailsview.changemode and detailsview.currentmode in the custom sub created for the add new button of the emptydatatemplate- neither of which do what I was hoping. It would be even better if when there was no data, it defaulted to the insert screen (which seems like that should be an easy, no-brainer way for .net to function) but it doesn't. Or, I don't know how to accomplish it.
I don't want to force the user to click cancel after inserting an item through the emptydatatemplate just to be able to use the detailsview for other records.

So I have an .aspx page loading up and populating drop downs based on a lookup table in the database. What we want is for the user to be able to configure which of these values comes defaulted by specifying that value in a drop down somewhere else in the app. Now, it's easy to default the "first" value, or something like that, but we want this to act differently. Is there a JavaScript function that can run immediately after onLoad (so the drop downs are populated already), that can go through the drop down and make one of those default so it looks like the page is loading with that set as default and people don't realize the workaround? (weird masking, etc.) I'm not TOO experienced with JavaScript so something like this may already exist. Here is an example of how we add the dropdown control to the page, in case you guys even need that.

I created a site using .NET 4.0 Integrated app pool.
I created an MVC application using the default MVC project template, without modifying I compiled the project and deploy the files using (Publish) to the virtual directory.
I can pull the site up, but the styles are missing from the page and for some reason it routing to the /Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=/
I am trying to run a website on iis7, it was working fine untill i tryed to install isapi rewrit on iis7. when i go to localhost i get the 404 message and when i type localhost/Default.aspx i get the default page but the css is not applyed to the page. i tryed to uninstall /install iis but the settings remain the same. how can i install iis with default settings.

View 4 RepliesI have webform that is used to search for records and displays them...the form contains a dropdownlist, a textbox, a button, and a gridview...user select an entry from the dropdown, type in a matching value and then click on the button to add the entry into the gridview. All of these seem to be working just fine...however, the issue am having is this...after working with the first entry and users search for the second record, the gridview still maintains the entries from the first search. How do i go about resetting the gridview each time there is a new search? Here is what my code looks like.

Right now I have a gridview with databind. My menu item consist of the 7 days of the week. Everything works fine except for one thing, the page index. Right now by default it loads the results for Monday. If I click on Pg 2 for Monday, and then I click on Tuesday, the page number stays at page 2 and the data remains the same. I have to click on Pg 1 or Pg 3 before the data would refresh and change the result to Tuesday's data.
I've tried adding databind() to the MenuClick event but if Monday has 3 pages, and they click on Tuesday which only has 2 pages, it would give me an error. Also the adding of the Databind() still doesn't fix the page index when I click on a different day.
How do I reset the page index when the user clicks on the day.

I got an update panel, inside it, there is a grid view, and the data on grid views appear based on certain condition, so the number of rows will vary.
I got the following code, which when the grid view's row count exceeded 50, it will set the panel's height to 700px and with a vertical scroll bar. If it is lesser than 50 rows, it should reset the height.
On line 1, I actually wanted to reset the height, but somehow, it will set the panels height to 0. I tried alot of other values as well, and I dont think this line is helping.
The reason I want to reset the height is that I wanted the panel to expand according to grid view's row. And the reason I set to 700px is because i wanted to control the page viewability.

I have a text box which has a Ajax calendar extender attached. You click on the text box, the calendar pops up, you select a date and that gets displayed in the text box. That all good but the date is displayed in mm/dd/yyyy format. Can this be changed?

Ex: when I select June 2010 from the ddl box, the sales for that month are correctly displayed in the grid view. I go to page 4 to look at some sales there and then switch the month to August 2010 to see sales for that month instead. Here is the problem. When I switch the month, it show August 2010 sales, but stays in page 4 instead of going back/resetting back to page 1 of August 2010 sales.

Resetting IDENTITY column to a new valueDuring application development we always entry some test data also our tester test with test data and as a result if the table contains IDENTITY columns( specially ID column) which incremented to the number of data already entered.
However, when the application goes running with real data to the client and the client want his ID values from starting 1, then we need to RESEED the value of the IDENTITY column of the table after clearing all data. This can be done as bellows:
DBCC CHECKIDENT (TableName, RESEED, 0)
However, can be reseed with any values instead of zero(0) in the above statement.
I have an identity column that increment by 1 on every insert. I have deleted all the rows using delete query but the identity coulumn is still not reseting to zero, how do i reset it, as it was when the table was first created.

However I can't figure out how to populate the controls in my repeater in my code behind code.
At the moment I am having to specify the database field e.g productprice with the control in the .aspx page like this

I would rather specify fields in my code behind than embedding them in the .aspx page.
I also have a subtotal label control in my repeater that I would like to populate its text property by mutiplying two of the database values e.g productprice * unitprice shown in my repeater.
I need to do this in code behind, looping through the repeater. Any idea of how I can do this in C#?
