In my windows application I write :

I am working towards porting a windows application to web. The windows application is quite rich w.r.t. the form controls, complex validations and user interactivity.Basic web forms are inadequate to meet these complexities. So I would like to know the best way to still have the richness on the web pages. I have some ideas and would like comments.
Use DHTML & Java Script to mimic complex controls. There are some macro controls available as part of jQueryUI that can be used and some other third party Java Script controls. I'd like suggestions if there is a recommended control library.Use RIA (preferably Silverlight) wherever rich controls are needed. I'd like to keep this as a last option because it mandates the Silverlight plug-in.What are other popular / preferred strategies?

I am making an Asp.Net application which does the following on the client computer:
Establish a Connection. Check client's cpu usage to see if it is idle or not.If the client is idle it starts executing a c application.While executing the script if client starts doing something (also checked by monitoring his cpu usage) stop signal is sent. Start signal is again sent to the client if he is back to his idle position. If the client is Ubuntu, I use ssh and execute what I want to.What is the way of doing this in Windows without the root access?

I use UserVoice at [URL]. I like the service a lot but would like to be hosted on my servers. Is there an php or ASP.NET equivalent to UserVoice which is free, source code included and can work with MySQL. An automated import from UserVoice will be a very welcome plus.

I have simple web application called App that is secured with Windows Authentication. I have set identity impersonate to true in web.config. There is only one page (Default.aspx) in App directory. When user enters the site ex.: http://localhost/App the login window pops up. When user clicks Cancel, IIS redirects to page with an error 401.2. I want to redirect to http://localhost/App/app_start/login.aspx. App_start is an aplication that is secured with Forms Authentication. I tried to handle programmatically the redirection by adding Application_EndRequest method in Global.asax file. But when user clicks Cancel the Application_EndRequest is not being fired. When user successfully logs in the method is being fired. Is there any way to handle error 401.2 programmatically or maybe in a different way?
Application_EndRequest code:
if (Response.StatusCode == 401)
{
Response.Clear();
Response.Write("You don't have access to content.");
[Code]....

Hopefully this is the right place for this question. I have done a fair amount of research and yet to find anything that matches what I want. What I'm envisioning is the following. Let me know if any of you know of a program that will do what I want. Also it must be web-based anom user -> fills out form -> email gets sent to admin saying xyz has filled out form abc with links to approve/disapprove request.
admin can also login and edit form and resent results to original submitter. Also once the admin approves/disapproves request the original submitter gets an approve/disapprove email.
and you can search by date submitted, specific project/form, status of request(submitted, approved, disapproved). all on where I could find this? I started to look into drupal with workflows and actions but it just doesn't flow right for this

i have a form which allows the user to key in the data and then submit.
if everything works well on this action result, then i will redirect the user back to a thank you page.
my problem right now is that when the user click on the back button, they will be able to go back to the form page and the inputs will still be there.
and if the user just click on submit again, i will be getting some potential weird bugs.
so in terms of asp.net mvc, what's the best way to handle users who click on the back button?

If a disabled drop-down list is dynamically rendered to the page, it is still possible to use Firebug, or another tool, to tamper with the submitted value, and to remove the "disabled" HTML attribute.
This code:
[code]....
The problem occurs when I use Firebug to remove the "disabled" attribute, and to change the selected option.On submission of the form, and re-creation of the field, the newly generated control has the correct value by the end of OnLoad, but by OnPreRender, it has assumed the identity of the submitted control and has been given the submitted form value.
.NET seems to have no way of detecting the fact that the field was originally created in a disabled state and that the submitted value was faked. This is understandable, as there could be legitimate, client-side functionality that would allow the disabled attribute to be removed.
Is there some way, other than a brute force approach, of detecting that this field's value should not have been changed?
I see the brute force approach as being something crap, like saving the correct value somewhere while still in OnLoad, and restoring the value in the OnPreRender. As some fields have dependencies on others, that would be unacceptable to me.

Given the following simplified code block in ASP.NET
<% foreach( item in Model) { %>
<%=item.OriginalText.OriginalText1 %>
<%} %>
OriginalText is a class which may be null. I am looking for a simple (clean) way to check for this null and return an empty string ("") instead.

I am learning on how to create data access layer code for a web site. I want to ensure I am actually connecting to the datasource, so, I am wanting to use a try/catch block within my data access layer class methods. What I am not sure how to handle is a case where the connectionstate is not open. The method should ideally return a datatable. If an error is thrown would I just return an empty datatable? That is my first thought. My other thought is to return an object and pass a datatable if the connection succeeds or the exception if the connection fails.

I modified a GridView control to enable alphabetical paging, and in doing so had to bind the GridView manually in the code behind rather than using the ObjectDataSource I had used originally.
Now my "delete" command in the GridView isn't working. I get that I need to handle this in the code behind now that I'm no longer bound to the ObjectDataSource.
But I'm not sure how to do that in C# and am not finding any examples.
Here's my .aspx:

And the .cs:

I am very interesting in the dynamic language runtime of .net, and saw IronRuby/IronPython is built on top of it. I cannot find some example which utilize the dynamic of Ruby/Python from within c#, which is what I realy interested.
I saw videos from Microsoft which call JavaScript from within Silverlight using the dynamic of c# 4, just wondering how easy it is to call Ruby/Python in web/windows form? I know that Umbraco have a python implementation somewhere, and it is possible, but not sure how?

I have a ASP.NET website which uses the standard ASP.NET Login Control for authenticating users. The user information is stored in a SQL Server database which is not accessible from client side. I want to write a standalone desktop windows form application which requires user to login with the same credential (username and password) used on the website. For the web-based form authentication, it's simple just to use the login control. Howerver, I have no idea for how to deal with the login for windows form application. My naive idea is to create a login web service which windows form application can utilize.
