Can a placeholder control be created dynamically such that you can add controls to it later on?
PlaceHolder ph_grid = new PlaceHolder();

I have basically something like this:
<asp:datagrid id="DGrid" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="false">
<asp:TemplateColumn HeaderText="Stuff">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:PlaceHolder id="PH" runat="server" />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateColumn>
</asp:datagrid>
I need to add a Button to the PlaceHolder depending on the values of the data I am binding. At the moment I am adding the Button after the data is bound in Page_Load. The problem is that the data binding methods are not called in postbacks, so the Button disappears when I click on it.
Problem is that I need to know some attributes of the grid item to create the Button, so I cannot create it before the data has been bound.

I'm creating an ASP.NET control dynamically based on a value selected in a dropdown; for instance the field can be a textbox or a checkbox (for now), and then it gets added to a placeholder control. However, I'm unsure how to retrieve the value - using the placeholder's FindControl method returns null although I'm specifying the ID when I create the control.
Here's my code:

I have a Placeholder control on Employee Main Menu. Several SQL Data sources are run at page load in order to notify employees that something is due. Each "something is due" message is loaded into a unique label. Therefore the Placeholder could have several labels in them. For clarity's sake I'd like them separated by line breaks. However I understand from reading a previous forum item that "< /br>" are ignored. How can I embed a line break when PlaceHolder_Msg.Controls.Count > 1

I've created a usercontrol in asp.net webforms (c#) called 'Article' which contains a general layout for an article and has a public property called datasource. the datasource will be populated by a subsonic (DAL) activerecord. In the controls pre-render event it will read the record and populates the labels. I think this is a flexible solution with easy maintenance. My problem however is that when I try to add the control to a placeholder all my controls like labels, literals and the like receive a null reference exception. I'm trying to spawn the controls as followed:
foreach (DAL.Article item in coll)
{
p7.Controls.General.Article.Article article = new p7.Controls.General.Article.Article();
article.datasource = item;
phContent.Controls.Add(article);
}
Is there something I've completely missed? It's driving me crazy heheh! Another question is do you guys know if this method will have a big impact on performance. I'm only adding 10 of those article controls per page.

I have an .aspx form that has a place holder that allows a user to add controls on button click. Upon button click of "Remove last added control" the user will see the last control be removed. I have searched this and can capture the control that they are wanting to delete but am having trouble actually removing the darn thing!!
Here is my code that I have that iterates through the controls and finds the specific ID that i want to delete but does not seem to delete it due to my syntax I believe (Coded in C# in .Net envirnomnet).
foreach (Control c in myPlaceHolder.Controls)
{
if (c.ID == "myTextBox" + Convert.ToString(Session["Control_Count"]))
{
this.Controls.Remove((c));
}
}
The session["Control_Count"] is the highest or greatest value that is added to the page. (example of 2 control ID's: myTextBox1, myTextBox2.) I want to be able to Delete TextBox2 and leave TextBox1 and thought thi swas a way of doing so.

My code was actually working before. I think since I switched to .NET 4, it may have stopped functioning.What I do is this: I add some TextBox controls inside a PlaceHolder control. Then when user clicks the submit button, I am reading values entered into these texboxes.
This is what's on the page:
[Code]....
This is how I add controls into my PlaceHolder:
[Code]....
And this is the button click event: [Code]....
Like I said, this code was working before but now it doesn't.

I know the content palcehlder does not have a size ,I have a masterpage and content page, the master page has a table with a header, content area, and footer, header and footer are fixed size, content area is 100%. As the user sizes the browser the content area grows and shrinks and the footer stays at the
bottom of the browser window - perfect!
Problem: The contentpalceholder does not grow to fill the available content area. Now, the contentplaceholder gets its size from its contents, which in this case is a div holding a silverlight object.I was thinking I could hook the master or child page's re-size event and somehow pass that info onto the SL object, but as it turns out (and I'm surprised I never knew this) there is no aps.net page re-size event! (really?, wow.)
So is there a way to get a SL object hosted on a master page to size itself based on the size of the browser window?Or more generally, a way to size the contents (like a div or panel) of a contentplaceholder based on the browser? on a standard aspx page (not a master page) I CAN get the SL object to size itself based on the broswer, the problem seems to come from the fact that I'm hosting the SL object in a content placeholder.
I guess I could 'unroll' the master page into several standalone pages and have it work, but the menu is on the master page and I'm used to using them, plus it's already done...<sigh>

I have a user control which I am adding to the page dynamically. UserControl is being added "n" times in PlaceHolder.
"n" depend on the number of records pulled from the database.
[Code]....
All the UserControls are added in a single column. (Issue, if n = 50, it looks very poor since half of the page is empty)
I want to add in multiple columns (eg if n=30; 10 in each column).
I am not using GridView or MultiView because user actually does need to modify any data.

I've got a datatable in a dataset which contains 44 rows. I can iterate through the rows and add the data to a placeholder - it's all there. However, if I bind a control (say a gridview or dropdownlist) to the datatable, all I get is one record (from the "middle" of the table). I get the same result when I create a dataview of the table - one row.

I am creating a survey page that has a list of questions and answers that can be radiobuttonlists, checkboxlists or textboxes. These controls are added dynamically to a Repeater in its ItemDataBound event using Controls.Add.
I've managed to render the page ok but when I submit the form and iterate over the controls in the repeater to get the selectedvalues of the radiobuttons and textbox values, FindControl returns null. What do I need to do to get get the selected values? I've tried iterating over the RepeaterItems but that returned null too. I've tried different types of FindControl but it never resolves the control types.
It works if I add a declarative DataBinder in the Repeater like this
<asp:Repeater ID="rptSurvey" runat="server" Visible="true" EnableViewState="true" >
<ItemTemplate>
<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Question") %>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
However, I want want to dynamically add the controls but in doing this i cant get the selectedvalues when submitting. This is tha main structure of my code...

I have a GridView control which contains a custom <pagertemplate> with a <asp:PlaceHolder runat="server" ID="plcPages"> control. The .aspx.cs file contains the following code:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
... {Other Code} ...
GridViewRow pagerRow = GridView1.BottomPagerRow;
PlaceHolder PagePlc = (PlaceHolder)pagerRow.Cells[0].FindControl("plcPages");
Button btnPage;
int iPageNum;
for (int i = 0; i < GridView1.PageCount; i++) { iPageNum = i + 1;
btnPage = new Button(); btnPage.ID = "btnPage" + iPageNum.ToString();
btnPage.CommandName = "Page"; btnPage.CommandArgument = iPageNum.ToString();
btnPage.Text = " " + iPageNum.ToString() + " ";
PagePlc.Controls.Add(btnPage); } }
Everything works fine the first time the page is displayed. But, when I click any pager button, including the Next and Prev command buttons that are not part of the PlaceHolder, the contents of the PlaceHolder are never re-displayed. I know from searching other posts that the PlaceHolder contents are lost during the trip to the server, but I am already recreating them every time the page is loaded. They are just never being shown again. I've spent the last two days playing with ViewState And every other combination.

I need to be able to check programatically if a SqlDataSource contains no rows, and make a Placeholder visible if it does contain rows, and invisible if it doesn't. I seem to be able to return the affected rows using SqlDataSource1_Selected, but turning the placeholder invisible never works.
turning the placeholder off and on depending on whether the data source contains rows?
