C# - Changing Labels And Static Text Per Client Using MVC3
Feb 25, 2011
I am currently designing a multi-tenant website where many clients will share the same code base but have their own "look-and-feel" to the site when the are logged in. This is nothing new, but I am looking for ideas on the best way to implement the solution using ASP.NET and MVC3 (which looks awesome).
The main thing I am looking at now is how to change the CSS style-sheet and text for the labels and static portions of the pages per client. So this would be something like localization where I would want to just have a string in the Razor template, like @FirstNameLabel and then at runtime it would grab the specific value setup for the logged in client for that variable.
I know I could implement this with a database, but I am just making sure there isn't some clever way to do this in .NET (I have been in the Java world for several years now). It seems like I could possibly use a variation of localization or globalization with ResourceManager, but I haven't found any examples that were not based on cultures, which I do not want/need at this time.
I have several labels. they have ID's like "lblSun_Rm1_0530" or "lblSun_Rm1_0600" they are labeled to represent days, room #'s and times, so you can see how they would change up. I'm looking to see how I could change all labels from one day and one room to say a white background. I would need to change all labels titled "lblSun_Rm1_(x)" where x would be the time.
I have a simple form containing two text boxes, I am attempting to apply some validation to the first text box using JavaScript. This is the first time I have attempted this and am having some trouble.
I have a label beside the text box stating an error, this labels visibility property is set to False. I wish the labels visibility to turn true if the text box is empty when the user loses focus.
For this I have used the onBlur option within the tags of the text box. It then calls the JavaScript function and should set the label to Visible but it does not. I have tested to see if it is entering the function by using an alert instead and that works. The problem seems to be trying to alter the visibility property of the label.
Here is the portion of my code:
The JavaScript:
function myRegEx(frm) { if ( boxUsername.value == "" ) { invalidUser.visible = True; return false; } }
The form:
<asp:TextBox onblur="return myRegEx(this)" id="boxUsername" runat="server" Width="200px"></asp:TextBox> <asp:Label id="invalidUser" runat="server" visible="False" forecolor="Red" text="* Username must be alphanumeric with no special characters"></asp:Label>
I need to use an updatepanel to set a labels text to a sqldatasource value every 5 seconds. I don't really know how to use the updatepanel, I also can't find a way to run a script every 5 seconds.
What's the easiest way to search all of the labels that are located in a web form for a particular string as the Label.Text attribute? In other words, I want to search a web form (or a table, if possible) for a label with the string "test".
Im really new to ASP.net. I am hoping to work with one TextBox, one Sumbit button and an unlimited amount of Labels....
I am wanting to input information into a TextBox then click a submit button and post to Label1, then empty the Textbox ready for further information.
The further information will then be added to Label2 after clicking the same submit button for the second time, then repeat this process for Label3, Label4 etc etc
saving a static HTML page on the client, so that I can then upload it back to the server? I'm building a Gantt style page, then allowing the user to "draw" on it using VML (This will change to SVG once we are off IE6). I need to be able to save the page (including the VML) to temp and then upload it back to the server as a static HTML file.
I have a small obsticle. I use labels to present data from database. Some data strings from database are very long which makes the labels very long too so it looks ugly because label is pushing everything to the side of the webpage. Setting label width works only when text is less then width which i set. How can i make the label only show text no longer then labels width?
i have a datagrid control which displays users created using sqlMembership..it has a row deleting event which is only accessed by administrators here is the code..
[Code]....
my problem here is to catch the securityexception and display in label
I have a page with a datalist on it, with an image button and some labels in the datalist item(1,2)..
I have some more labels on the page which get their values from querystrings(17,18)..
I have more labels which are empty (34,35)
On image click in the datalist item, i want the labels from that item to add with the labels outside of the datalist, and the last lot of labels to show this number..
panel_A has a gridView gv1 with PageSize = "5" OnRowCommand = "LoadCompanyInfo" OnPageIndexChanging="gridView_PageIndexChanging1" Panel_B has gridview gv2 with PageSize = "5" OnRowCommand = "SelectEmployee" OnPageIndexChanging="gridView_PageIndexChanging2" Panel_C has labels CompanyID, CompanyName, EFirst, ELast and EMiddle. Panel_A panel_B and panel_C are in an update panel.
Each row in gv1 is a LinkButton, so if I click on a row, it runs a method 'LoadCompanyInfo' which updates the labels in panel_C and also populates the gridview on panel_B. This part is working fine, when I click on a row in gv1, it updates the labels text in Panel_C and populates gv2 in panel_B. I am having the following issues:
1. When I click on a row in gv2, it makes the labels text in panel_C blank and gv2 also becomes blank, shows EmptyDataText. I expect it to just update EFirst, ELast and EMiddle. in panel_A.
2. When I click on the next page no on gv1 it fires LoadCompanyInfo method first and then goes in the gridView_PageIndexChanging1 event. I expect it to go in the gridView_PageIndexChanging1 event only and show next page in gv1 and not in LoadCompanyInfo, because I am just clicking on page no 2 not row 2.
3. gv1 refreshes on a timer event OnTick = Timer_Tick, and it clears off data in panel_B and panel_C. I want it to just update panel_A.
I guess I will have to set up nested Update panels to accomplish this.
Assuming that I can't modify the code-behind file for a site (it's a compiled site), I've encountered a bug of mine that can only be fully fixed with a complete recompile and redeployment. Unfortunately, we are on a strict release schedule and we can't deploy for another 11 days.
The bug is that I'm doing a check on a drop down to make sure that the value that is selected isn't "-1". However, I didn't use drp.SelectedItem.Value, I used drp.Items[0].Value. Total bonehead move on my part. The bottom line is that drp.Items[0].Value is ALWAYS -1, so they page gives an error to the user stating that they need to choose an option for that drop down. Which they really have, but my bug is not letting them continue in this process.
So, I'm trying to determine if I could, client-side, replace the value of the first drp item to the actually chosen value of that drop down.
I've gotten this all to work client-side, but when the form is posted back, the value is still the value that was populated from code, meaning "-1".
I'm sure this is because the drop down is loaded and all the values are held in ViewState.
Below is static text in some aspx file. How to localize static text in asp.net.I have to use frameowrk 4.0 and vs 2010.There is lot of static text in <p> or <br> tag.?can you explain me how to localize this static text using app_local resource file.I tried with literal and localize control but can anyone explain me how to convert following text.
What I'm trying to achieve is basically to prevent client-side change of the state of my server controls.
For example, let's say that I have a business web applications, that shows some data in read-only fashion to the regular users, but allow the admin to edit the data. In such case I use regular ASP.NET server controls, but disable them for the regular user (enabled=false). The problem that I have is that any advanced user could change the disabled control on the client using short javascript code and check the supposedly disabled and unchecked checkbox.
what is the easiest way to prevent this client-side change. I thought that when the control is disabled before rendering the page, the following postback would not touch this control at all, no matter how you change it on the client. Did I get terribly wrong?
I have a scenario whereby I have a textbox with an autocomplete extender attached and two drop down lists; this enables a user to search for product info. Ideally I'd like to create something that effectivley, 'resets' the drop downs so that when a user clicks on the textbox (maybe I'll do it 'onenter'/'ondelete' if there is such a thing). I've had a look at .Attributes.Add but cannae figure it out. How do you include asp.net controls within this scenario so I could have something along the lines of:
Environment: IE7, ASP.NET 3.5 SP1, C#, IIS 7, intranet, SQL server 2008 R2 enterprise. I'm trying to implement a page with 3 pictures in it (each picture is up to 1MB, jpg format), and switch them with the next 3 each 250 milliseconds. I thought of several methods for implementation:
1. Store all the pictures in a virtual folder, then switching the src attribute of img html element by javascript, and manipulate caching by storing the next 9 pictures also as img element, but with display:none for css.
2. Store the images in a database table and than send it to the client using DIME (don't know how to do it yet).
3. Store the images in a database table and use custom http handler to retrieve the picture (don't know how to do it yet).
4. Client invocation of webservice? Which of the above results the best performance? Is there another method for caching pictures?
Is there a way to change the values for these two attributes on the client side and have it reflected on the server side after the postback. I tried it but it does not seem to work. I wanted to have one button on the page that I would delegate submits too, and assign these two arguments on the client side. Seems like not possible. Assuming there is a button named "cmd" in the form
I have an input type, so a text box which has a browse button next to it. When it is clicked, the file that is selected has it's full path placed into the text box.
Where is the event! Now that I have the path to the file in the textbox of the input type, I want to load each line of this file into a textbox that is able to handle multiline text. I don't want the file to be uploaded to the website. I just want to contents of the file read and placed in a textbox all with one click on the browse button.
