C# - How To Send XML String As Response

Jun 1, 2010

I am getting my Request from a third party application(different domain) to my ASP application. I am handling the request and doing the business part in my application and as a acknowledgement I need to send XML string as Response to the same Page which POSTED the request to my Application. I was successful in retrieving the input from Request using the following code

NameValueCollection postPageCollection = Request.Form;
foreach (string name in postPageCollection.AllKeys)
{
... = postPageCollection[name]);
}

But i am not sure how to send back the response along with XML String to the site(different domain)?
EDIT: How to get the URL from where the POST happened.

MVC :: Manipulate Response Before Send To The Client?

Jul 23, 2010

I create my own litte ViewEngine, done many things that works great, but now I want something to implement, but I don't know how.

I want the final Response Content when the controller is executed and the view is executed, manuelly manipulate and than send to the client.

I have two Examples for it.

First I have an AssetManager, he collects all Css files and JavaScript files, given by components, the view, classes and so on.

And this collected links I will insert with String.indexOf before the "</head" tag.

The reason why I want do this in the engine and not with a line like this in the head part

[Code]....

Is that I want so save me the work to do this every time on each project in the master page and maybe in single views.

A second usefull idea is, I want to write my own litte trace component, and I want so write the generated content before the "</html>" tag.

where I can manipulate the content before sending it to the client, and this in the engine?

WCF / ASMX :: Webservice That Can Send Response Back In XML Format

Jun 17, 2010

I have a webservice that sends the response back in XML format.I'm able to connect and call the webservice adding an external web reference to the Visual Studio project.Then in my code behind:As New servicename_addedLabel1.Text = servicename_added.Functionexposed(param1, param2, etc)With that code I can get the response in a large label and unstructured data. If I "view source" I see the XML structured data.I have tried to create an XML document without success.My goal is to parse the response and write it to a database separating all the fields.

Web Forms :: OutOfMemoryException Using FileStream With FAT BIG FILE For Send To Response?

May 11, 2010

I'm using Filestream for read big file (> 500 MB) and I get the OutOfMemoryException. Any solutions about it??

I want this in my app:

Read DATA from Oracle
Uncompress file using FileStream and BZip2

Read file uncompressed and send it to asp.net page for download. When I read file from disk, Fails !!! and get OutOfMemory.

. My Code is:

using (var fs3 = new FileStream(filePath2, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read))
{
byte[] b2 = ReadFully(fs3, 1024);
}
// http://www.yoda.arachsys.com/csharp/readbinary.html
public static byte[] ReadFully(Stream stream, int initialLength)
{
// If we've been passed an unhelpful initial length, just
// use 32K.
if (initialLength < 1)
{
initialLength = 32768;
}
byte[] buffer = new byte[initialLength];
int read = 0;
int chunk;
while ((chunk = stream.Read(buffer, read, buffer.Length - read)) > 0)
{
read += chunk;
// If we've reached the end of our buffer, check to see if there's
// any more information
if (read == buffer.Length)
{
int nextByte = stream.ReadByte();
// End of stream? If so, we're done
if (nextByte == -1)
{
return buffer;
}

// Nope. Resize the buffer, put in the byte we've just
// read, and continue
byte[] newBuffer = new byte[buffer.Length * 2];
Array.Copy(buffer, newBuffer, buffer.Length);
newBuffer[read] = (byte)nextByte;
buffer = newBuffer;
read++;
}
}
// Buffer is now too big. Shrink it.
byte[] ret = new byte[read];
Array.Copy(buffer, ret, read);
return ret;

Send Fodder Bytes Until Actual Response Data Is Ready?

Jan 19, 2010

I need to serve MP3 content that is generated dynamically during the request. My clients (podcatchers I can't configure) are timing out before I'm able to generate the first byte of the response data.

Is there a way to send fodder/throwAway data while I'm generating the real data, to prevent/avoid the timeout, but in a way that allows me to instruct the client to ignore/discard the fodder data once I'm ready to start sending the "real" data?

Web Forms :: Response.TransmitFile --- Open A File From DataBase And Send It To Browser?

Aug 25, 2010

There are bunch of files stored in a DataBase as varbinary/image data. I am writing a program to extract these file data and send them to the browser so file can be opened or saved. My method is,

[code]....

BUT this method creates a file in the Server and then transmit to the browser. Means 100s of files will be created in the server when I open 100s of files with this process, naturally I want to avoid that.

Is it possible to do this without creating a copy of the file in the server ?

Insert Anywhere A String Into The Response Stream?

May 7, 2010

I created a simple Http Module that starts a timer on the PreRequestHandler and stops the timer on the PostRequestHandler to calculate the time it took the page to load. I then create some simple html and write my results to Response.Write. Since I'm doing this in the PostRequestHandler it's adding my results after the </html> tag. That's fine for testing but I need in a scenario where the page needs to validate.

I can't seem to figure out how I could manipulate the Response object to insert my results before the </body> tag. Response.Write and Response.Output.Write don't have that flexibility and I couldn't see a way to work with the Response as a string. Am I missing something easy?

Render Output To String - Response.Flush Breaking Page Caching

Feb 3, 2010

I have some code that is used to replace certain page output with other text. The way I accomplish this is by setting the Response.Filter to a Stream, Flushing the Response, and then reading that Stream back into a string. From there I can manipulate the string and output the resulting code. You can see the basic code for this over at [URL] However, I noticed that Page Caching no longer works after the first Response.Flush call.

I put together a simple ASP.NET WebApp as an example. I have a Default.aspx with an @OutputCache set for 30 seconds. All this does is output DateTime.Now.ToLongTimeString(). I override Render. If I do a Response.Flush (even after the base.Render) the page does not get cached. This is regardless of any programmatic cacheability that I set. So it seems that Response.Flush completely undermines any page caching in use. Why is this?

extra credit: is there a way to accomplish what I want (render output to a string) that will not result in Page Cache getting bypassed?

ASPX Page:

<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="TestCacheVsFlush._Default" %>
<%@ OutputCache Duration="30" VaryByParam="none" %>
<%= DateTime.Now.ToLongTimeString() %>

Code-behind (Page is Cached):
protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer)
{
base.Render(writer);
}
Code-behind (Page is not cached):
protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer)
{
base.Render(writer);
Response.Flush();
}
Code-behind (Page still is not cached):
protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer)
{
base.Render(writer);
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Server);
Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddSeconds(30));
Response.Flush();
}

Send Data To Ashx - Handler But Not Query String?

Dec 22, 2010

I would like to open some page from external web-application in iframe. Usualy, I would indicate URL for iframe like this: URL = [URL] BUT. I need to send not only 'ID=12' parameter. I need to send a lot of data to handler in order to be processed. Usualy I do it by following code:

Dim wrq As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create(Data_WS_URL) wrq.Method = "POST" Dim postData As String = "PubmedIDs=" & vInput wrq.ContentType = "Application/x-www-form-urlencoded" Dim byteArray As Byte() = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(postData)

But when you use this code - you recieve response from webrequest as some amount of data - text or binary. I may write this respone to the place on the page where I wanted to have iframe. But response cannot always be accaptable. (for example - I render asp:Treeview by ASHX handler - when I do to ashx page - it renders well, collapse-expand works fine; but if I write web-response of ashx page as text/html - then there's something wrong with javascript, tags ids and collapsing nodes). And webresponse cannot be represented as as URL. How to combine this two approaches

1) Clear URL which can be set as source for iframe
2) Extra data for web-request, larger then QueryString can handle

Web Forms :: Append CustomPrice To The Current Page's Query String Before The Response.Redirect Takes Place

Apr 25, 2010

I have a page that is used to add info from a gridview into a user's profile. I have explained my issues after all of the code. Here is the applicable code(s) involved:

Protected Sub AddToCart(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As CommandEventArgs)
For Each gvr In GridViewItems.Rows
Dim txtGiftAmt As TextBox = (CType(gvr.FindControl("txtGiftAmt"), TextBox))
If txtGiftAmt.Visible = True Then
Dim customPrice As String = txtGiftAmt.Text.ToString
'HERE is where I would like to set the new price variable value somehow
End If
Next
Dim scart As New ShoppingCart
scart.AddCartItem(e.CommandArgument.ToString())
Response.Redirect("~/ShoppingCart.aspx")
End Sub

This sub is called by the following button when clicked:

[Code]....

Here is the sub from the ShoppongCart Class named AddCartItem:

[Code]....

Here is the problem that I am having: I have one specific item that allows user's to define their own price (for this item only). By putting this price in a session variable seems to be the easiest way to handle this (at least for me), but the session variable's value always "lags behind". By this I mean that the first time the items is entered, it uses the default value of cartItem.ItemPrice. The second time the same item is added (with the intention of a different price), this new item's cartItem.ItemPrice is set
as the first session("customPrice").

Because the user is selecting his/her own price for this item, I am not worried about lack of security involved with using query string to pass this price, but I can't get the string passed to the ShoppingCart class correctly (shows up null). Is there a way to append this customPrice to the current page's query string before the Response.Redirect takes place? If I understand this correctly, the Response portion "posts back" to the current page before the Redirect sends us on our merry way, right?
