View 3 RepliesI am looking for a way to figure out the current URL that the page is currently on (NOT what the asp.net page currently is, but where the CODE is at). ie. My web app is located at: [URL] my code is: String page = [URL]
String response = GetResponse(page); //basically the above code goes to the website [URL] and parses the HTML within it and brings it back and populates the variable string "response". But, sometimes the [URL] throws me a curve ball and redirects me to: [URL] I want to be able to use a try/catch to be able to "catch" the error of a different page: ie validateUser.aspx. So, I need to do to this: try
{
String page = [URL];
String response = GetResponse(page);
}
catch
{
//code to check the behind URL to see if [URL] is the URL OR IF [URL] is the current URL
}
understand I know how to find the URL of the current page the web app is on. I need to find the current page that threw the exception during the execution of the code behind.
I have some code that successfully traps an error 404 and diverts to an appropriate page. However, I have a problem with certain types of error. My code will trap the scenario where a user types, e.g.,
www.mysite.com/indecks.aspx where no such page exists. However, if the user types something along the lines
www.mysite.com/index.aspx/nonsensetext where index.aspx is a valid page, the page load event for index.aspx is triggered. However the page is rendered incorrectly because, I think, it is failing to find the images and CSS file associated with the page - perhaps because it is looking at the wrong path.
I expect that I can trap this by examining, for example, Request.URL.OriginalString and, if I detect garbage, I could re-direct to the same page "more cleanly" (i.e. without the junk on the end of the URL). However I'm a bit concerned that this is happening at all. Shouldn't this be treated as a 404 error?
How can I force the download of a file on a ASP.NET page using datas from that page's ViewState?
Response.ClearContent();
Response.ContentType = "text/plain";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + "example.aaa");
Response.Write( this.ViewState["stuffs"] );
Response.End();
But if I do that the current page will be erased and return blank to the user.
Other examples says to create "download.aspx" and request it by javascript, but on a this new page I won't have access to the ViewState data of the first page.
The point is, how can I create a file, launch the download and don't lose the current page status?
I am calling a file download action from javascript:
$elem.click(function() {
window.location.href = 'MyController/MyFileDownloadAction';
});
The controller returns a file:
[code]...
This action has a pretty high likelyhood of throwing an exception (or at least not being able to return the file).
Due to the nature of the application (which contains a lot of dynamic content), I can't really redirect to an error page in this situation. The current page needs to stay open somehow.
So I'm ideally looking for something like a javascript pop-up, but afaik this isn't going to be possible since I don't know any way to return a javacript instruction in a non-ajaxed controller call. If I display an error page I need to force it to open in a new window some how. Is there any possible solution to this problem?
Am building an autoupdate DLL in .net, a function in DLL gets url as input parameter and check the domain is registered on server or not.
For that, how can i get the url of the page from the DLL without knowing the programmer in aspx pages.
How can I find the current url (in adress bar)?
View 1 Replies I have a WCF Service that loads a file located on a local web server. How can I load that file based off an Uri? So I don't have to hard code in the address? So instead of doing a XmlDocument.Load(http://mywebaddress/ConfigFile/config.xml); I could put in or find the current URL of webservice then add the parameter. Sort of like this:
XmlDocument.Load("~/ConfigFile/config.xml"); That way if I'm publishing or Debugging it's all one file in the same exact location.
We have a mid-sized asp.net project that we just promoted from our dev server (Windows 2003) to an external test server (Windows 2008 R2). On the test server, IIS is not finding our home page, which is located in the views/home folder (404 error). As far as we can tell, the settings are the same on both servers. I've confirmed HTTP redirection is installed. Is there perhaps some critical configuration we may have missed on IIS7.5 to let it know where to find the view and/or home page?

View 5 RepliesI am building in error-logging into my site, and want to be able to get hold of the current page name that the error occurred in, as well as the specific subroutine or function, to then pass to a VB.NET function. Is there anyway to get hold of this information without hard-coding the names manually? For example,
Dim strCurrentPageName = ???
Dim strCurrentRoutine = ???
How can i get current MainNavigationMenu hyprelink in code behind and check if is current menu clicked then i will change him default CSS.I try with this code but is always null

I want to execute some logic if the Logged in User can view a page "~/MyPage.aspx". IF the logged in user should be elligible to view the page is determined by the role based security I configured in the web.config file. There are many methods to find out if the user is in role XXX or not. But I did not find any method to find out if the user can view a page or not ahead of transferring the user to that page. Maybe I will hide a link to a specific page to the logged in user if the user is not elligible to view that page if I know the technique i am asking here to know.

I have built an ASP.NET (.NET v4) application in VS 2010. It is working just fine. But when I try to create deployment package (so I can deploy it in our test IIS 7.5 Server), it gives me error like this,
Error 1 Could not open Source file: Could not find file 'C:11-2 estobjDebugCSAutoParameterize ransformedWeb.config'. 0 0 test
Thing is in past, I had deployed the SAME application using the SAME method.
Per different user mode, some pages should not be accessible by users unless they have a valid session key.In your opinions -- would it be better to have a list of acceptable pages in the master page, and check if the current page is valid for the current user? Or handle this on every child page?I'm thinking master page, just want to hear what your input would be.
View 2 RepliesI'm using ASP.Net with VB (Visual Web Developer 2010) and SQL(Management Studio Express 2008) to create a website that keeps track of employee subscriptions.A date is entered into my database whenever an employee makes a subscription.I need to find a way to send an automatic email to each employee when the current date exceeds the subscription date by one year.
I am unable to use an SQL job as I only have SQL MS express.From other posts I have read it seems the best way to do this is to create a webservice to send emails but I am unsure of how to get the email address for each employee from the database to the web service?Do you guys think a web service is the best way to do this?

View 2 RepliesI have a requirement where I want to trace what file is being processed by .net runtime. I mean if it is processing usercontrol x.ascx then it should return the whole path of that, and if it is processing usercontrol y.ascx it should return that. There are some candidates properties. equest.AppRelativeCurrentExecutionFilePathor TemplateControl.AppRelativeVirtualPath. Can somebody help me with this, or is there any other property that can give me the path.
View 1 RepliesI am experiencing an issue with the TreeView control when loading new pages. It is databound to web.sitemap, but when loading a new page, it does not select the node of the current page, just resets it to the root. THe new page loads fine, just not preserving the current navigation in the tree view.
