C# - How To Programmatically Set Property Of Control In Aspx File
May 27, 2010
This may be a very dumb question but I can't seem to get it working. I use at many places the following syntax for dynamically binding a property of a control in aspx file to the resource entry, e.g.
But this doesn't seem to work, it simply sets the text to the exact expression without evaluating it. I am using ASP.NET 3.5 btw.
I have tried the databinding approach but I get an HttpParseException saying Databinding expressions are only supported on objects that have a DataBinding event.
I was recently assigned a task of changing our asp.net web site localization to use custom resource provider (using sql database) instead of the default asrx resource files. Right now I'm chalenged with replacing hundreds of meta:resourcekey="resource-key" with '<%$ Resources:[filename,]resource-key %>' in our web site too many web pages. I want to do it programmatically.
first of all I'm not able to open .aspx files using XmlDocument, then I wonder how can I read meta:resource entries inside the aspx file as meta:resource is not any regular node attribute. any thoughts or example code how to solve this.
Note: in the inserted '<%$ Resources:[filename,]resource-key %>' filename name sould be based on the aspx file name & resource-key on the control type and the resource value.
exemple: in UserPage.aspx page <asp:Label id="uid" meta:resource="userName"> should be replaced with <asp:Label id="uid" Text='<%$ Resources:UserPage,LBL_userName_text %>'.
When adding new DB records to a ListView, I want to update the date/time stamp of the containing ASPX page for SEO purposes. Is this possible and how might I go about it?
UPDATE:
I found Touch for Windows, bu would still prefer any kind of clever hack just to do this programmatically:
I need to configure a property of a custom control I wrote, specifically before the control calls OnInit. If I assign it as part of the ASPX file, it naturally works, but if I instead move the assignment to different parts of the code-behind, it will throw an error for having an empty and invalid value. The following is what it looks like when functional in the ASPX page.
The property in question is FilterString, which is just a simple string. It should be noted as well that the FieldName property (inheritted from the control's base class "BaseFieldControl") would also throw an error if it is not initialized, but if I set FieldName in the code behind's OnInit method, it works correctly. FilterString is not so, it won't actually be assigned. So I know that some methods for certain properties will work for setting the property's value, but it won't always work. I tried placing it in OnPreInit as well, to no avail.
I am taking a dynamic assignment approach because the functionality of this page needs to be replicated for a number of different lists, and the FilterString and FieldName properties will differ in every case. Rather than write half a dozen mostly-identical aspx pages all with the same code behind but differing just in what those two properties are, I figured it would be wiser to use the page's query string and some derived parameters to set those properties dynamically. As such, what methods are available to accomplish this task?
I'm writing ASP.NET custom control, and I want it to have a few properties which should be visible only from code behind during run-time - I mean, these properties should not be visible both in a designer and in a aspx code of page containing this control. I've tried to use following attributes:
[DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Hidden)] [Browsable(false)] public List<Item> SomeData { ... }
but unfortunately this property is still visible in an Intellisense combobox when editing aspx page. Is it possible to hide this property everywhere besides server-side code ?
There is one user control say uControl.ascx. This has a public property Message. There are 2 aspx pages Default.aspx and Home.aspx which has the user control uControl.ascx. When a sumit button from Default.aspx is clicked some action takes place and the value for Message is set and then execution is redirected to Home.aspx. In Home.aspx the value for Message is lost.
Is there anyways that the value of Message is retained for both the aspx pages?
I work in VS 2008. Whenver I add a server control(Label) and set it properties in aspx.vb and build the solution, I get the error "Label1 not declared". While analyzing this issue I noticed that the event handler statements for the Label1 where not added in the designer.asp.vb file. These statement would actually be added automatically when I drag and drop a control to my webpage.
I would also like to inform the scenario after which this problem came to me. I was working in VS 2008 , VS 2005 and VS 2003 in the same machine.Could this have caused the issue ?
Now each and everytime when I add a control, I am adding the "With Events" code in the designer page to make my build succesfull which makes me to spend more efforts.
I'm using SqlDataSource to update image stored in the database. Everything is working fine using the code below but I don't know how to access the Property Name to get the content type of the image. How can I have the pass the File upload's content type to the parameter @imgType?
I am using HTML file control and HTML image control in .aspx page (for uploading image and showing on web page). It is working fine. But I am unable to get that uploaded image file path and file name in .aspx.cs page. And also tell me how to save selected image in MS ACCESS database.
I created a simple gridview user control with a custom property ProfileType which should load different records depending on the ProfileType value when attaching to a web page.
This is my web page:
[code]....
how I can expose user control custom property at its code-behind file.
However, it fails on this Server.Transfer line after inserting runat="server"
in the DataMatch.aspx file to the Table element like so:
<table width="50%" id="tMain" runat="server">
But after making this a server control, I rebuilt it and now when I run this app it gives me exception:
Error executing child request for DataMatch.aspx
But I need this table to be a server control so I can make it invisible programmatically if a certain condition occurs. How else can I programmatically make this table invisible?
As far as I know server controls doesn't have a .aspx file. So I need to load a aspx file in order for it to work like a template for my server control, and render my server control content.
My file upload control is in page for editing records so i want to retrieve the path stored in database and assign it file upload control. i have written select query to get data but i do not know how to display the stored file path in file upload control.
I have a user control with two drop down, on selection change of first dropdown second dropdown should get populated. Now when I place this user control in a aspx file, I need to access the second dropdown value on change of send dropdown .
eg: in ascx file
Department drop down and employee dropdown. on change of department dropdown, employee dropdown should populate. (which is working fine for me)
in aspx.cs file
on change of employee dropdown, I need to get the employee id and so some other operation. (I am struggling here)
Is there any way where I can fire usercontrol event from aspx.cs file?
This was originally posted, in error, to another forum. Not sure how that happened. Anyways, here goes... I have a web app that uses javascript functions to make rounded corners. One of the functions requires two colors as parameters. I cannot change this function definition. My web app is in asp.net 4.0 and uses master pages and themes. To facilitate programmatic access, I moved all javascript declaration into the code behind file of the master page. It gets generated in the load event: I declare it there as a big string (using StringBuilder) and then put it into the page with Page.
ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(... Now that I have introduced themes into my application, I have discovered a serious problem. These themes each utilize their own CSS and skin files to paint the various elements of the app's web pages in different colors (of course). But remember, as parameters, one of my javascript functions requires two colors. And now that I have themes I can no longer manually code these colors into the javascript declaration... Now I have to discover a way to extract the background color and one other color from the current theme's CSS file. Then I can feed that into the javascript declarations in the master page's PageLoad event in the master page's code behind file. This would allow the javascript function to be called on the page load and to use the current theme's colors as parameters.
How can I call a public property declared on a ASPX page from a different ASPX Page? Is that possible? It is a website project. How can I get/call this property from a different aspx page? I have attempted this from the other page, but it is not recognizing the partial class: private Test_Default _test; It does not recognize the "Test_Default"
I have read about the file upload control in asp.net and tried it and works great. But I want to know if I can use it for another purpose. I have a video capture control that can be used for webcam apps or anything else. It has a method called HTTPUpload where it will upload an image file to the server using the HTTP upload protocol. My question is can i use the .net FileUpload control for this? And if so, how can I pass the image file straight to the .aspx page without having to submit a button? Would the file be as a query string variable?
Arguments: WebServer = web server address WebPage = name of upload web page Fields = list of 'fieldname' and 'fieldvalue' values delimited with '|' Files = list of 'fieldname' and 'file path' values delimited with '|' Returns TRUE if successful, or FALSE otherwise. Example vcx.HTTPUpload "[URL] , "upload.asp", "field1|value1|field2|value2" , "file1|c:foldermypic.jpg|file2|c:foldermyvideo.avi"
