I am facing an intresting problem now with entity framework. if i did a count of the some table with linq statement its give some count and it is not matching with my normal sql query count. my sql query returning count of all the records in that table where as linq query returns some count which is less than sql count. is this a problem with my edmx or table navigation properties..i do have some 5 to 6 child tables inside this table with foreignkey relation. will it do a join on each child table and returns only those records. I am very much confused and don't know how to slove this.

Now, I want to check how many elements are present in this distinct array & if the number of elements in this distinct array is more than 500, then I need to fetch only those first 500 elements. How can I achieve this?

I'm working with an aspx page, where once I click on a button, some calls are executed in the background and I display the returned information on the webpage. I do this by adding this information to a panel:
panel.controls.add(label)
panel.controls.add(anotherpanel)

Using C# I have
Queue N: 3, 4 9, 11
Queue A: 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13
I want to remove all elements from Queue A that are present in Queue N And end up with Queue R: 1, 2, 8, 12, 13. How do I do this in C#. Trying to work with someones API and they offer a way to get the two queues and I need to filter based on one queue returned.
Updated Code Example: I am using a custom data type ModuleDetails
Queue<ModuleDetails> defaultQueue = apiCallDefault();
Queue<ModuleDetails> modQueue = apiCallAllModules();

I need to initiate an Array to hold 100 integers. Then, by user click, a random number 1-100 is generated, and subtracted from the list. In the next call, the next random number will be subtracted from the 99 numbers left, next from the 98 numbers and so on. I need to do this with AJAX and if needed a webservice. The reason I am asking here is because I am confused...Where shall I instanciate the array and how do I keep track of the removed numbers?

I'm using an autocomplete contol of ajax toolkit. Yesterday a user found that it had stopped working (it wasn't generating the list as you type letters in the textbox). After hours of troubleshooting, I found that in web.config <httpHandlers>, this line
<remove verb="*" path="*.asmx" /> was placed after the <add> line like this:
<httpHandlers>
<add verb="*" path="*.asmx" validate="false" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>

I'm building a shopping cart page that could potentially contain dozens of separate items. Each item has a collapsible panel that contains several form elements that can be used to customize it. Most of the cart is wrapped in an UpdatePanel so that I can avoid a full postback when the user makes changes. When there are many items in the cart, there are of course many many postback elements, all of which are included in the raw form post, even though each post is really only triggered by the change of a single element

In my web form I have a search box. The user enters a string, and once the search button is clicked, I pass the value from my .js file to my .cs file and do some processing to get the results. Up to this point everything is fine, but now I dont know how to get my results back to my .js page. The serach results at this point are in a dataset, and also in an multidimensional array. I have a multi array because I need to pass back the code and description of the items found.
[Code]....
At this point I have used the passed string 'value' to get my required code/descriptions, but i'm not sure how/if I can get either the Dataset or multidimensional array back to my .js page

I am doing some sorting of an array and in order to achieve that I have to declare bounds of a new array based on amount of results returned. So if I get 2 results I will initialize
tagArray = New Integer() {0, 1}, if 5 then
tagArray = New Integer() {0, 1, 2, 3, 4}. The amount of results is unknown and it can be anywhere from 200 to 500 results returned. Is there a way to simplify this? I could probably hard-code it but that would look ugly.

Assuming I have the following ASP.NET HTML Code:

I am trying to write a linq query that will retrieve all the ID's from any asp tag. Also, the query needs to group everything together alphabetically. So for the example above, the linq query should return "lbl1", followed by "lbl2", followed by "txt1", and finally "txt2". Notice it did not grab the "bodyID" because it was not part of an ASP.NET tag. Is there an easy way to do this? I am using C#, by the way.

I have a list of customer Id's as the result of a Linq Query named "localCustomers" which contains 100 or so Customer ID's.I'm would like use this list to query and access customers' info on the whole group. Been searching on how to do this but no luck. It's easy enough with one customer ID, but how do I do it with an arrayList as the parameter? Here's my latest attempt but it's not working.

I have a simple web app which contains a page of thumnail images. The user selects one or more of these images, which then appear in a 'lightbox' area on the page (just a div into which the images are cloned, to give a preview of which ones the user has chosen), and clicks a button which zips up the selected images and prompts the user to open or save the zip. I'm wondering what the best way of doing this is, bearing in mind my .NET skills are very limited? I have the jquery working which clones the items into a lightbox div. I also have the ASP.NET side of things generating a zip file and sending it to the user to download - although the zip is just hard-coded as an empty file at the moment. Currently I'm thinking that each click of the thumbnail will call an aspx page via ajax and will add that item (probably the file name of the image) to an array in a session. Then when the download button is clicked, the application will loop through all the session items, zip the files and send to the browser as a downloadable zip.
Is this a good way to do it? If so, could anyone point me towards the best way to save the selected items into an array in a session? I've really no idea how to store a list of items in an array. It would be good also to be able to use ajax to remove items from the session array too.

So I have a website that I recently made changes to, and one of the changes was removing a page from the site. I deleted the page, it doesn't exist anymore.
However, when you search for my site, one of the results is the page that I deleted. People are clicking on the page and getting an error.
How do I remove that page from the search results?

I am developing asp.net mobile application. I am using XML as a database. I am querying on the XML to access the required elements & attributes by using LINQ to XML in .net. I have the follwing part in my XML file.
[code]....
The similar logic I need for the above defined XML part. In the above XML I want to write the LINQ to XML query which can access the NAME attribute of the 'VALVE' node (<VALVE NAME="PWV">), then it should access the text between 'DISPLAY-NODE' (<DISPLAY-NAME> Production Master Valve </DISPLAY-NAME>), & then it should access the all the attributes of the 'COMMAND' node dynamically ( <COMMANDS USE-TEMPLATE="TRUE" TEAMPLATE-NAME="ValveCommands.xml"></COMMANDS>). All these I want dynamically without explicitly specifying the name of the child node as well as name of their attributes ( similar to the way I written the above query ) Can we write such a code by using LINQ to XML ? It will be better if we can write code for above issue in a single logic ( similar to the way I written the above query ).

I have a query using LINQ-to-SQL. It queries an underlying database table Rooms. It uses Where conditions to narrow down the results, namely:
Gender.
Current Occupancy < Max Occupancy
Available Flag is Checked
I know this should return results but it keeps returning an empty set. Any ideas? Code is below
Dim selectedHalls = (From sh In dbHalls.Rooms _
Where sh.gender = Session("gender").ToString _
Where sh.max_occupancy > sh.current_occupancy _
Where sh.is_available = 1 _
Select sh.building_name).Distinct()
UPDATE: I've verified that the issue is with the statement where sh.is_available = 1, which doesn't make sense since this is a bit field.

I can't seem to change the order of the results coming back from a linq to sql query, I want just to return the distinct values from the field x.manufacturer in alphabetical order, this is what I have and it isn't working:
public IQueryable<string> Dropone()
{
return (from x in CAT.CatalogueDatas
where x.Parent == null
orderby x.Manufacturer
select x.Manufacturer).Distinct();
}
Currently I get the distinct values in non-alphabetical order, in fact I'm not sure what order they're coming out in, don't think it's the order in which they appear though.

What is the best way to create a custom results page using Linq to Entities?
Do I pass the values to the result page, and do the query on the result page?
or
Do I pass the query results to the custom results page?
What is the best way to pass this?
Is there an example of this on the internet?

I've got the following LINQ query to my IQueryable service
Dim eventcount = EventService.QueryEvents().Count
Dim eventlist = EventService.QueryEvents().Skip((page - 1) * 5).Take(5).ToList
But I'm wondering if there's a way to do this without making two calls to the database?

im new to linq and im having lots of trouble creating complex queries.. My problem mainly is that i am using Linq as a BLL.
i created a dbml (with namespace called DAL) file with 2 tables with a one to many relation. Pop and City. There is a forgien key in pop that points to a city. I also created a class called Pop that inhertis DAL.Pop. Now in my ASPX page, i want to call a function in the Pop class that would retrieve some Pop according to its ID, but i need the city name as well.. Ive been going around this in circles for days. I dont know how to write the Linq syntax and i dont understandd how my function's signature should be like.. I want to recieve a table that i can bind to a Gridview and preferable, specify which coloumns to bind.

I have the following statement:
List<string> tracks = new List<string> { "ABC", "DEF" };
var items = (from i in Agenda.AgendaSessions
select i).Where(p => p.Tracks.Any(s => tracks.Contains(s.Code)));
this returns all sessions which track contains either ABC or DEF, now when I rewrite the statement like the following, it returns All sessions regardless, as if the clause always yeilds into true,
var items = from i in Agenda.AgendaSessions
where i.Tracks.Any(s=> tracks.Contains(s.Code))
select i;
Update
if there are other clauses within the where, does that affect the results?
