C# - Storing User Data In Cache Vs Querying Data Everytime?
Feb 1, 2011
If I store all my user info, upon login, in cache and just have a "my account" page that displays the user info from cache, is that a good practice? I'm wondering if a person changes his email or does any type of database modification then the cached variables will be the wrong ones. If I have to update the cache variables every time something happens to the database, is this even a good practice compared to just querying the data whenever needed?
When I first implemented forms authentication I consulted an article that told me to store the user's custom IPrincipal object in the cache. Is this wrong? Should I have stored it in the session?
Since I don't want my sessions to be removed unless the session has been abandoned either via code or Session Timeout...For eviction, I would think "None" and for expireable, I would think False.I have tested and calling Session.Abandon does remove the object from the cache. I have also tested to see if by extending my session, the session object in cache is also extended. This does seem to work the "correct" way.
I created timecard for a website and I would like to automatically clock out the user everytime when user logout or close the website. Is there a control for that? And if yes, where do i have to put he code at?? I think it should be in the code behind of master page... and on the Page_Load function
I have a master/detail web form and i have implement a caching to hold detail data. i am facing problem that when two user login same time and enter data, cache has combined the data and both user ara getting each other data. i want every user gat his own data.
I dont know whether this simple task or not, but I tried to search in google but couldn't find anything.
I've a asp.net form and user enters some data in the text boxes provided. Whenever user submits the form, browser will save that form data. I don't want this form data to be saved in browser. How can I restrict the browser saving this form data without touching the browser settings?
Application is developed using asp.net and normal text boxes are used here.
I know i can store a string in the cache, but can I save a date in cache and retreive it back into a data variable without having to convert.todatetime.
I've been tasked with porting/refactoring a Web Application Platform that we have from ASP.NET to MVC.NET. Ideally I could use all the existing platform's configurations to determine the properties of the site that is presented. Is it RESTful to keep a SiteConfiguration object which contains all of our various page configuration data in the System.Web.Caching.Cache? There are a lot of settings that need to be loaded when the user acceses our site so it's inefficient for each user to have to load the same settings every time they access.
I have to add HL7 compatibility to a database. How to create a sample:Database name: DBshwetaLets say there is just one table inside the db i.e tblValues with column name as Name,Age.Now i have to create a Hl7 message with the above values everytime a new user is registered. This Hl7 messgage should futher communicate with another database DBclone and make the required updations there.
I am writing a web page that returns a small volume of data from a database table. The database is polled every 1 second and the data will be the same for every user. As every user is accessing the same data, there is no need for each user to poll the database and use up db resource.
Therefore, I think I should be using application caching to store the data in a dataset. However, I am slightly stumped as to how to do this.... because how can i ensure that the dataset is kept up to date.
The only way I can think to do this is to have a master user/session (i.e. the first session in the application) that keeps the cache object updated every second, then other users can use that cache object. If the first session ends, then the next requestor of the cache will pick up responsibility for keeping the dataset up to date.
I have a dropdownlist in the GridView ItemTemplate. I want my grid to be in edit mode on gridview load and not on edit item click. So I have a dropdwonlist in the ItemTemplte of my Gridview and I have an onload event in dropdownlist which populates the dropdown items. B=But when I click the dropdownlist, I cannot do anything, cant even select the dropdownlist items, it just shows the list items and goes back to the same mode.
I have to check usergroups of LDAP Active Directory for a specific user in C#. Mean I pass this username to a method and it returns me list of group from that user belongs. Im Searching alot But Everytime get new error.
I have developed a data querying application for the Web, this is in a host. What steps should I take if I want this application can also be used with mobile devices.
I have a little problem with a query. I'm selecting data using the between command, But when I select the initial date equal to the final date the query doesn't show data.I know that the problem is the format. In my database I got something like this:2009-05-22 15:32:52.000. But when I send the date parameter from ASP.NET Page I sent only the Date (2009-05-22).So, I want to fix this thing. I cannot change the Datetime inside the database.I was thinking adding 1 day to the final date, So when the user select the same date I change the range behind the scene and then show the data. What do you think?
I am writing an ASP.NET application that suppose to connect to many different data stores and query them for data. Each data store contains different data: it can be an SQL DB, an XML file, or anything that can store data. The result is always an XML.
The remote data stores expose a WCF service (which I will also implement) that will allow me to query the data store and return the results.
My question is: how exactly should I implement the querying mechanism? Should I define my own query language?
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I will be as detailed as I can in explaining the issue;I have a dataset I have instantiated in a class file (vb.net), and fill the data succesfully. That data is then dumped into an excel file. What I need to do is to go through all the data in the dataset, and directly update the database, changing a "status" column from "pending" to "processing" based on the store number. As I am new to datasets (relatively speaking, of course), I am not quite certain how to accomplish this task. Below is the code I have so far:
[Code]....
If anyone could provide sample code to use, or could provide a quick bit of code I could just copy and paste in and test,
We have a data driven ASP.NET website which has been written using the standard pattern for data caching (adapted here from MSDN):
public DataTable GetData() { string key = "DataTable"; object item = Cache[key] as DataTable;
[code]...
The trouble with this is that the call to GetDataFromSQL() is expensive and the use of the site is fairly high. So every five minutes, when the cache drops, the site becomes very 'sticky' while a lot of requests are waiting for the new data to be retrieved.
What we really want to happen is for the old data to remain current while new data is periodically reloaded in the background. (The fact that someone might therefore see data that is six minutes old isn't a big issue - the data isn't that time sensitive). This is something that I can write myself, but it would be useful to know if any alternative caching engines (I know names like Velocity, memcache) support this kind of scenario. Or am I missing some obvious trick with the standard ASP.NET data cache?
I have use Nhibernate in my MVC Project by me known, Nhibernate have cache on Session and Object. now, I want use HttpContext.Current.Cache (system.web) for cache data something in project. my code same that have problem, haven't it. and that's right or wrong.
I'm trying to create a search page that searchs one specific table in the entrie datbase.Basically someone writes what they want in a textbox in search.aspx, they click the search button, and it takes them to another page called search_results.aspx, carrying the inputted text along with it. What search results is supposed to do is at page load, its supposed to query the entire database for all values that are LIKE the text in the querystring, then transport the entire value set of each row that has a field matchign the query string, and then it's supposed take those values and put them in a template that presents them in the way that I want.
The only thing out of all that that I don't know how to do is write the code for taking the querystring and putting it up against all the values in the database like that. I know that you can find a value in a specfic comlumn, i.e.
SELECT Column1, Column2 FROM Table1 Where Column1 = 'blah1', 'blah2'
but how do you write it so that it looks at all the columns for 1 or 2 specfic values (the querystring), and then it returns the entire for each time it finds them?
I have webpage containing 3 views of multiview control. In the first view there are 3 fields Name Age Surname which will be captured in the textbox for the respective fields. In the second view i have three more fields
sex maritalstatus bloodgroup
which will be entered in the respective textboxes and a submit button to store the data in both the views in the sql server database. I have all the fields in the sql server table which are mentioned in the webpage.I need the complete code for storing the entered data in both the views of the multiview control after hitting the submit button.
When a use is logged in (Through open-id) we are creating a session variable named "UID" and storing the unique user-id in it. Later we are checking the session to see if the user is logged in. I think this is not the right way, but I could not force the team to change this, as I cannot show how this implementation can be cracked. why (If yes) this implementation is bad?
I'm having a couple basic generics problems. Basically, I'm trying to identify a piece of content by two indexes.
1) I need to store the content in the class, so I need to create a class variable, classTableCellContent, to store it in. Therefore I need to create one, requiring me to constrain the generic type "where ContentType : new()". However, when I attempt to consume this type with a string, e.g. TableCell<string>, it throws a compiler error "The type 'string' must have a public parameterless constructor in order to use it as a parameter blahblahblah..."
2) I need to accept input, so I have an add function. However, when I try to indicate that the third parameter is the same data type, i.e. ContentType, the compiler seems to believe that I'm creating a "new" data type with a poorly chosen name that hides the original data type declared in the class declaration. I'm sure this must be something stupid I'm missing. All I want to do is accept an input variable of the generic type in a function and store it in the class for later use.
Here's the code. I've even highlighted the two lines that seem to be throwing the errors.
