View 1 RepliesI'm puzzled by this predicament that I'm in right now. I developed a simple application in ASP.NET 2.0 using Visual Studio 2005 and Crystal Reports that came with VS2005. My code works and displays the report correctly with the data on my desktop but when I copy it to the production server to deploy it, everything else runs except for the report which only displays a blank screen.
I've installed Crystal Reports on the server, the IIS setting has the correct ASP.net Framework version. When I view the source on the blank report, it is pointing to the correct path for all the Crystal Reports scripts and images.
[Code]....
I am using this code to pass variables from ASP.NET application to HTML Application:
[Code]....
The above code is run from page_laod event, and I am making some development changes on the Development Machine (say
http://eutdev02/ehrmd).
After the ASPX page is loaded, and I debug the javascript in the HTML (F12 under IE8), and can see the Cookie is found in the browser.
But, when I open the target HTML/Javascript web page (which will read the cookie prmStaffID), but the HTML Page is on the production machine (separate server say
http://prod01/Attendance.html), the Cookie is not found !!!
It seems to me that Cookies will persist only on one IIS Server, and will not be global.
Question:How I can persist the Cookie on the Client Machine regardless of the the Server Machine ?
For testing purposes, I want to send the cookie to the client from teh Development Server, but the target application is under HTML/Javascript, and I want to be able to read the same Cookie using Javascript.
I have seen the examples on how to switch between connections strings for development and production enviroments. My web.config also calls out a connection string for <roleManager and membership><providers>. Can this be setup to switch between the two connection strings?
View 1 RepliesProblem: I need to move a local development database to the production server without any of the test data.
I am running SQL Server Express 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio 2008.
To create my ASP.NET Membership 2.0 system I created the DB initialy and ran aspnet_regsql.exe
I then added my own tables manually to store additional information.
I adjusted the web.config file with an application name.
When I ran a sript the application ID name was created and populated in the aspnet_Applications table. My script created a new member created and added to the admin role. Ok so everything go so far.
Now I want to move the local DB to the server. I know the connection string and can change this in the web.config.
My hosting company doesn't provide restore, so I don't think I can backup and restore
Q 1. What would be the best way to move the database across. Bearing in mind I need to clean the database out of test data.
Would it be just generate an SQL Script for the database and run it as a query on the server? And if this is the best way then do I need to set the permissions for the ASPNET user?
Q 2. What is the best way to clear out the data in the local database.?
I have a functionality working ( functionality for making controls visible / true false ) on my development system having windows 2008.
But the same is not working onĀ production server having windows 2003 on IE.
dynamically switch WCF web service reference URL path through config file. how do you do this?
View 3 RepliesI have created my site using ASP.NET Personal Starter Kits 3.5. I use Visual Studio 2008 only . .with its built-in SQL Server (2005 Express) ... my database in App_Data is ASPNETDB.MDF ...
I have created some of my tables also ....in ASPNETDB ..
In my local PC the site was running fine ...
But when I publish my site on production server it doesn't work and shows the following error
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
My hosting provider connection string ..
<add name="ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=69.16.253.19;Initial Catalog=usa_data;Persist Security Info=True;User Id=user;Password=pass" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
My hosting provider gave me the connection string to connect to the SQL Server 2005 but it doesn't work...
I don't understand why my site was running fine using the production SQL Server 2005 in my local PC when I include ASPNETDB.MDF file in App_Data in my local pc only ..if I remove file ASPNETDB.MDF from App_Data of my local pc ... the site stops working ...
Can anybody tell em how to fix this ... !! I am very tensed since last 3-4 days
how to transfer my data from devlopment server to production server ,i have already records exist in my database if i go for script then how can i transfor record in script i can transfor only table ,procedure and views.I am using SqlServer 2005.
View 2 RepliesI am wondering the best way to change my connection string based upon which server I am accessing.
Essentially, all of the development is done on our local machines - once we think it is working, we upload it to our development server. In these 2 instances, I want my application to go off of our "dev" connection string for the SQL database in the web.config.
However, once it is published to our production server (for an internal application), I would like the connection string to point to our live db.
I am using the N-Tier model by Imar Spaanjaars - and have it setup like he suggests - In my DAL I have a class called AppConfiguration -
In this class I have a public readonly property ConnectionString() which returns the connection string in the web.config.
This is in an individual class library. What I would like to do is something similar to:
If server is localhost OR devstring return devString else return productionstring
I am using Reporting Services to render a report directly to PDF. It requires that I use two web references: ReportExecution2005.asmx and ReportService2005.asmx. The performance on web references seems really poor. Since my web server (IIS7) and my SQL Server (2008) are on the same box, is there a way I can reference them directly? If not is there any way I can explicitly cache them or something. First load is really really slow, second load is perfectly acceptable.
View 2 RepliesI am dynamically generating script code to return transaction data to Google Analytics using their ecommerce script. The code that generates the script is fully tested and functional on my development machine and when I view the page code the script, along with any values that were passed to it, can be seen above the </form> tag. Happy days, or so I thought. For some reason the code is not being generated when I test it in a live, hosted environment. I cant figure out why this is the case as the code is quite simple. I simply generate the script code and register it on the client side (see code below)
//Capture the transaction data for analytics ecommerce tracking
//Generate the necessary script code
string strAnalyticsEcommerceScript = Analytics_Ecommerce_Script_Creator();
//Register the script on the page
Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "AnalyticsScript", strAnalyticsEcommerceScript);
The page in question is called "Order-Successfull" and is where customers are sent to when they have succesfully payed for an order. On this page:
-The order is added to the orders database table
- The customer is emailed an order confirmation email
- The google analytics script is generated and registered
The Sequence is as follows:
[Code]....
Whats really interesting is that if I move the Analytics script creator code before the code that sends the emails, the script is generated and can be seen when I view the page code. If I do this, however, the emails do not get sent. If I lay the code out as per the code I have inserted in this post, the emails get sent but the script code is not placed on the page.. The code to that actually sends the emails is quite standard:
[Code]....
I'm trying to include script and style references that will not break on deployment, however I can not even get the references to work locally. I have tried using Url.Content() and MVCContrib's <%=Html.ScriptInclude("")%>.
My scripts are in a Scripts folder on the root of the site; my styles are in the usual Content/css/ folder.
The scripts render like this:
<script type="text/javascript" src="/Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.debug.js" ></script>
This will not work in a view page in the Views folder. What am I doing wrong and what is the best way to handle this?
I would have thought Url.Content() would at least work for styles but used in my master page, the link rendered
<link href="/Content/css/Site.css rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
This does not work, because the Master Page is in a Shared folder, so what is really the way forward with this?
We have a largely asp.net web form team (With some Oracle developers thrown in).
Question 1:
Is it a good idea to start using asp.net MVC which will mean redevelopment of a number of standard controls for not much benefit.
Question 2:
Is it a good idea to hire developers where there most recent skills are with asp.net MVC?
I doubt there is any benefit adopting MVC now, given the 100+ applications in this suite of products, and the maintenance/rework this will cause. Given this, is there any particular reason to hire MVC developers, as they won't be hitting the ground running, which is what I need now.
I am planning to develop a social networking website for student of a particular university with following facilities.
Forum, Blog, Creating profile, creating groups , Adding Friends, managing groups, dating, chatting etc.
Now if I start developing it from scratch, this will take a lot of time..
I couldnt find any CMS which can in developing social networking website.
Additionally, I would like the website to have my own custom design. Also it should have support for AJAX, SEO and integrating third party applications.
How do you know what is better to use for writing new programs? We are now using Access 2007 frontend with an SQL backend and we are going to VB.Net, what would be our next logical step?
View 4 RepliesI have an enum:
public enum Status
{
Incomplete = 1, Complete = 2, Cancelled = 3, Deleted = 4
}
Now on a certain page I wish to list this enum in a checkboxlist. This would be fine except that I want the text of each checkbox to display different text than the enum.
i.e the check boxes should say:"Not Processed" instead of "Incomplete"
"Processed" instead of "Complete"
"Void" instead of "Cancelled"
Is it possible to put this enum in a foreach and then switch on the status and update the text. Like so:var statuses = Enum.GetNames(typeof(Status));
foreach (var status in statuses)))
{
switch (status) [code]....
i built web site in asp4/.net 4 using vs2010
only to find out that the hoster that i need to use (rackspace) doesn't support .net 4 except in beta
of course i can't precompile in 3.5 because of some of the assemblies
any quick way to rebuild in 3.5 without totally rebuilding the whole site in 3.5?
My switch is based on a string, the text value of an server control. code:
[Code]....
[Code]....
1) Should I change the iframe to a User/Server control? or just a div?
2) I currently just have HTML links with load my iframe based on the page the user wants to see. How should I load (1) from the main links?
3) I have multiple levels of user controls. So control A could dynamically load Child controls...which each of those could load child controls. Do All these controls get a scriptManagerProxy? WHere should the original scriptManager go from (1)?
I am new to MVC so I would like to know how would you switch the stylesheet of the view on postback?
I know how to do this in webforms but in MVC it does not appear to be done the same way.
currently i'm attempting to using a switch statement to change between time zone with a project for school.
if (extTime1.timeZone == "CDT")
{
switch (cboTimeZone.SelectedItem.ToString)
{
case "EST":
[Code]....
I can't seem to get the cboTimeZone to work correctly. I always thought SelectedItem was the correct choice in this situation.
I'm using Intelligencia url rewriting currently but have just leased an IIS 7.5 server to put my asp.net 3.5 site on. I installed the IIS URL rewriting module and was amazed at how easy it was to create rules. Creating rules with the Intelligencia url rewriter is complicated (at least for me). Are there any downsides to switching? Is there a reason for me not to move on to the Microsoft solution? This site isn't live yet, so I have time to switch
View 2 RepliesMy site uses cookies. I need to have it use sessions instead. The reason for this is because there is a third party that needs to connect to it, and it's always requiring 3rd party cookies to be enable in the browser and that is annoying my customers. Is there any other way around this other than switching to sessions?
View 4 RepliesI am writing a condition like:
if (dt > 0) {
objinvoice.editInvoice(strInvoice, strRenew, strExpiry);
GridView1.EditIndex = -1; bindGrid(); }
I will have a radio button in gridview if that radiobutton is initially set to false and if the condition is true I would like to set it to true.
