C# - Update A Users Role From A Dropdown List Within A Repeater?
Jul 5, 2010
I have repeater which shows a list of users and there roles. There is also a dropdown list to chnage there role see below
<td><asp:DropDownList ID="ddlChangeType" class="controlwidth100" runat="server" AutoPostBack="true" OnSelectedIndexChanged="change" /></td>
the change event works but what I need is the ID of the row so the user can be updated.

I need to populate a dropdown list with users who match certain role criteria. For example, if I have the following roles: Manager, Employee, Supervisor I would like to populate the list with only the Manager and Employee roles. Some individuals have multiple roles and they should be excluded if they also have the Supervisor role as illustrated below:
Name: A , Role(s): Manager, Employee, Supervisor
Name: B, Role(s): Employee
Name: C, Role(s): Manager, Employee
The final list should only contain names B & C.
I can use Roles.GetUsersInRole("Employee") but I am not sure if this is efficient or not.

I'm new in asp.net and javascript. I got a problem.
I have a repeater which contains dropdown list in it.
The items in the dropdown list are all the same at fist.
But if i select a item in one dropdown, then the selected item will be deleted in the other dropdown list.
For example
A, B, C, D,E are the five items in dropdown list, and repeater has three lines.
If A is selected in the dropdown list in the first line of repeater, then the dropdown list in the other lines will only have four items to select, they are B, C, D, E.
If then D is selected in the dropdown list in the third line of repeater, then the dropdown list in the second line will only have B, C, E to choose.
I can do this in csharp code, how can i do it in .aspx page?
The performance is not good using csharp code.

I'm trying to bind a selected user's role to a dropdown-list. The purpose of this is to be able to change said user's role.
I'm attempting this inside a formview hooked up to a linqdatasource which contains a row from the aspnet_User table.
The dropdown list is hooked up to a linqdatasource of all the roles in the aspnet_Roles table (with DataValueField="RoleID", DataTextField="RoleName").
I figured it would be possible with something like:
SelectedValue='<%# Bind("aspnet_UsersInRole[0].aspnet_Role.RoleID") %>'
But this throws a parser exception, about the bind call not being correctly formatted.
The roles are there, they show up when I remove the "SelectedValue"

Is there any reasonably efficient way to get a list of users who are not in a specific role?
The only methods I can see are Get all the users from DB and do a check in code
Go directly to the db and sidestep the role provider

Using ASP.NET (C#) I have set up Authorization Manager to allow me to handle roles on a website. Added users to roles is simple Roles.AddUserToRole("DOMAIN\UserName", "role"). However I want to list the users belonging to a role, but since they are stored as SID's, displaying them would not be that helpful. To get the users, I am thinking XML would have to be used, although is it possible to use COM Interop to both do that and get the user name? Either way, how can I get the users belonging to a role?
The table to manage roles would basically be like this:
Role User
---- ----
admin DOMAINUserName [delete]
DOMAINUserName2 [delete]
[add user text box]
news DOMAINUserName3 [delete]
[add user text box]

I'm doing property booking based project.
I have repeater control for search results.
For every search result I create a dropdown list with 2 month booking overview.
<ddl>
<item value = "1"> January - February </item>
<item value = "2"> February - March </item>
etc.
Then I call function to generate 2 months calendar view, which has two parameters generate(startmonth as Integer, sku as string)
Everything works when I hardcode starmonth as some integer.
I spent all day with no progress on how to pass value. I need a guide. I guess second problem will be to restore changed dropdown values on Postback, but one step at a time.
But what I want to do, to pass selected item value, to function, that would change view for property associated with this dropdown.

I want to update a repeater when SelectedIndex value changes for a dropdown list. The problem is Nothing happens.
My aspx page is present in a nested master page. and neither autopostback works nor update panel. i have set the AsyncPostBack trigger on SelectedIndexChange event.
Please let me know what am i doing wrong or what am i missing.
PS: I have never worked on ajax before so I might have overlooked something.

I have an application that I am writing in ASP.NET MVC 2 following the Nerd Dinner tutorial. I am very much a beginner and was looking for examples/tutorials I could follow that would enable me to learn how to code the following scenario:A user has the option to select an option from a dropdown.If the option is not there then they can enter a new option and add it to the database and list in the dropdown.
I would like this to be done without the user leaving the page and what they have entered so far.I am using a simple Entity Framework 4.0 model which I have built a repository on top of so I have methods I can call to save the filled in user information.If the entry already exists in the database then I would like to offer the user the chance to either select that entry or to continue adding the entry they request because it can be a list of names and of course you can have more than one person with the same name.

I was trying to implement a dynamic update of a dropdown list in an ASP.NET.MVC2 RC 2 view. My code didn't work. So, in order to verify my approach, I resorted to a published code, which supposedly should be correct: In the View:
<%= Html.DropDownList("Numbers",(IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["Services"]) %>
<select id="Select1">
</select>
<input type="button" id="Button1" value="Fill By Array" />
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
$("#Button1").click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
var data = [];
$.getJSON("/Home/GetListViaJson", null, function(data) {
data = $.map(data, function(item, a) {
return "<option value=" + item.Value + ">" + item.Text + "</option>";
});
$("#Select1").html(data.join(""));
});
});
});
</script>
In the Controller:
[HandleError]
public class HomeController : Controller
{
public ActionResult Index()
{
//ViewData["Message"] = "Welcome to ASP.NET MVC!";
ViewData["Numbers"] = GenerateNumbers();
return View("Index");
}
[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get)]
public JsonResult GetListViaJson()
{
return Json(GenerateNumbers());
}
private static List<SelectListItem> GenerateNumbers()
{
var numbers = (from p in Enumerable.Range(0, 20)
select new SelectListItem
{
Text = p.ToString(),
Value = p.ToString()
});
return numbers.ToList();
}
public ActionResult About()
{
return View();
}
}
The Html.DropDownList was correctly populated on PageLoad() event. But the GetListViaJson() action method, when called on the button event, did not update the "Select1" element. how to solve this update problem.

I'm using the same thing on different page and it works fine in there, but on this specific page, this is not working.
Here's what I have:
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="upMain" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional" Visible="true" RenderMode="Inline">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlNewService_PortTelco" runat="server" Width="250" CssClass="dropdown" AutoPostBack="true" OnSelectedIndexChanged="Provision_PortedTelcoChanged"></asp:DropDownList>
</ContentTemplate>
</asp:UpdatePanel>
On the way before the DropDown there is one DIV (html one), and then few asp:Panels.

I am stuck at this point "Displaying a dropdown list of Categories with a --None -- Option. I want the gridview control to display 2 dropdown list one in read-only mode and the other in edit mode. When a record is in read-only mode, the dropdownlist's enabled property will be set to false."When it's on a read-only mode, it doesn't display the selected Category. it shows but the "No Category". When i click on edit to edit or change category, it doesn't display the selected category.

Using C# and sql server. I have a gridview which is populated using a sql query. I have 5 columns in the gridview ( projectid,project name,description,date,status). I'm using the Edit/update option that is available in the gridview to edit/update a user selected row. When I use this Text boxes appear. I want to have a drop down list for status instead of a text box with values Started,Inprocess,Complete, Inhold.

On my website, registered users can make a profile about themselves suchas name, Favoirite color, hobbies, etcI have a DataTable called User which hold this information.also there are other datatables for Hobbies and Colors which list all possible options.To let the user update their choices I have a FormView in Edit mode on the aspx page whichis binded to the UserTable with a GetProfileByUserId Method and objectdatasource.
Within the formview, i have added drop down lists that are binded to the hobbies and Colors tables so they can edit their previous selection.On clicking Uodate update formview calls an Update Method that adds new selections to the User databaseNow I have two questionsIs it possible to show in the dropdown list the selected value that the User has already made?If the user only changes hobbies and not colors when they click update will a null value be passed into the data table for colors that replaces their previous selection?
