I have a grid with one TemplateField which is a checkbox and say 2 bound fields.
In Page_Load on postback I rebind the grid with cached dataset stored in session. If user selects checkbox on the grid, upon postback i can iterate on the grid and get those checked values, everything works fine.
If I move the code of grid binding on postback to OnInit instead of Page_Load then i loose those user checked checkbox data. Why? Should the postback data not overlay on top of the grid after oninit?
It does work with page_load, I'm assuming that when i rebind the grid, I'm overlaying my data on grid which has postback data, since the checkbox column is not bound i do not overwrite postback data.
NOTE: viewstate is disabled on my grid, i bind data (stored in session) on everyback postback. Also something weird, when I'm using OnInit, on every postback i get the first page of the grid, no matter which page the postback was triggered.
We are in the process of migrating our current asp.net gridviews to silverlight grids. The challenge that I am facing here is that in the gridview, the grid is bind to a dataset/datatable. But in silverlight, I do not have dataset/datatable available in the silverlight class. So only option is to create a Webservice and convert the dataset that I am currently getting from business layer to a class that imlements IList<> (unless there are any other ways). Now to convert this dataset to Ilist, I have to loop through the dataset to load the List. In my current dataset I have almost 10,000 records or even more in some cases. So the response time will be really slow.Are there anyways to
1) Load the List from dataset directly without looping through ?
2) Fetch the data from database directly to a List without having loading the dataset ?

When user like to update the datasource he will select one row from gridview then in selected indexchanged event i would display the selected row values beneath the form under the grid , Then user will update the contents displayed from grid and click an update button which is outside the grid . After updating the displayed row , i got to get the values of the next row in the grid and display them for next updation , i'e if users maually selects row 3 from grid then he can update the values using the update button and then on update click itself i'll have to display next row contents of row 4 and this process could go on .
I have Parent/Child Grid (also called Nested Grids).
Parent Grid (PG) :: PG has two template fields. 1st template field has "Category ID" and 2nd template has Child Grid
Child Grid (CG) :: CG is populated in PG's RowDataBund event based on "Category ID". In CG's DataBound event, I am doing something which I need to display in CG's footer row.
Problem :: In the footer row of each CG, I have to show the "Category ID" which is in PG' row. How can I get hold of the PG's row which hascurrent nested grid (there will 'n' child grids, one for each 'Category ID' in the PG ) so I can read the "Category ID"
I was thinking if I could do something (DataBound event of CG) like this..

View 1 RepliesIn a ASP.NET application I have a paging RadGrid which shows up textbox in each row. Outside the grid, there is an OK button to save the content of all the textbox. If user changes text in any one or more of the textbox and without clicking on the "OK" button, tries to move to a different page number (of the grid by clicking on the page number), he should be prompted for confirmation of save or cancel the changes.
I am guessing that one can write a Javascript function which would look for any form input control (textbox in my case) and detect changes and If there are changes, would prompt the user. However, I am not sure where I can call this function from?
I am using RadGrid but I guess this should be applicable to GridView as well.
I'm getting some Xml back from a service. I would like it to be the datasource of a grid view on my aspx page. Here is a sample of the Xml

I have a Orders table with an OrderID and it is linked to a Orders_Detail table. I would like to be able to select the order and see the details. Outside of my grid I'd like to use another checkbox for something else, but when the select all checkbox in the grid is selected, it also selects my checkbox outside of the grid. We have a asp.net application that has this report that shows about 1000 rows as of right now and can grow up potentially up to 20,000. Dont ask me why, but out client does not like paging and does not like filtering, they like to see everything on a single page. Our obvious problem is the load its putting on the server, in terms of memory (also the factor that the client browser may crash as well).
My question is: If I provide a custom desktop application only for this report, that can display thousands and thousands of rows (through web services or remotting), would it clog up the server? On the server the worker process of the IIS basically eats up memory in case of a the asp.net application, but if I have this desktop app running seperating calling the same data base on the application server,
