C# - Changing Checkbox Label Colour On Databound?
Oct 19, 2010
Ive searched everywhere for this but cant find the answer. I have used the following code before to change repeated items properties in an asp.net repeater as after they have been bound to do things i couldnt do prior to binding them.
protected void rowRepeater_ItemBound(object sender, RepeaterItemEventArgs e)
{
foreach (RepeaterItem item in rptStockists.Items)
{
}
}
Now i am wanting to do something similar but with a chekbox list. i want to change the colour of the labels and i know i can only do this after the list has been bound. I have notice checkboxlists only provide the parameter OnDataBound in intellisense, doesnt give me OnItemDataBound that repeaters do. What would be the equivalent i could use here?

I'm trying to change a Label's text property and colour properties depending if an event occurs on the page behind file.
Does anyone have a similar issue?
if (((Label)FindControl("Label1")).Text != null) - //getting Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
{
Label Labelmerchantid = (Label)FindControl("Label1");
Labelmerchantid.Visible = true;
Labelmerchantid.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red;
}

1) For some reason the MainDivision column in this is displaying bold and centered (the rest are left and not bold). Anybody see something that creeped into this markup that might be causing this?
HTML Code:
[code]....
2) How can I add a non-databound checkbox to a gridview? It only seems to appear if I bind it to something, but I want it so the user can check which rows he wants to perform an action against, so it has no value other than UI interaction.

I need to pull a list of supplies from a db table and list them along with two textboxes (one for quantity, and another for manufacturer)
so the list would look something like this.
checkbox for supply 1 | Quantity | Manufacturer
checkbox for supply 2 | Quantity | Manufacturer
..
I also need to store all of the checked items in a db table. I'm not sure how i should go about doing this. I've heard some talk about a repeater control being useful but i've not come across any examples that do this type of thing.

I have a datagrid which is bound to a stored procedure in the code behind. This works fine. But the datagrid contains a checkbox which I need to be default checked. First I didn't bind the checkbox and just used:
<ItemTemplate> <asp:CheckBox ID="chkSelection" Runat="server" Checked= "true" /> </ItemTemplate>
but they show as unchecked. then bound it using:
<ItemTemplate>

So I am uding a GridView bound to a SQL data source.
I have a template feild bound to a SQL BIT
<EditItemTemplate <asp:CheckBox ID="chkSelected" runat="server" Checked='<%# Bind("Selected") %>
The original Item Template was Enabled ="false" I changed this so that you did not have to set the row to a state of edit in order to just select a row. I enabled it so that you could "select" any row with out putting it in a state of edit. the only value changing is if its selected or not. What i am trying to do is use the Data Source Update method to update the bit in the database based on the check box. Currently Update() returns 0. I believe this is because the row/feild is not marked as changed so the Data Source does not see it as something that needs to be updated.
What I am hoping for out of this is post is a way that the rows whom check value has changed to be marked as changed/edited so that the data source will update the database with the values of the check boxes. If all rows are updated this is acceptable as well. I know this is a super simple solution but i have been out of the .NET for a little bit.

i have a check box list control that is used for showing related files to some post.
what i want to do is set the databound items "checked" to true by default
then,
if a user unchecks some item and clicks the save button. then the selectedindexchanged will fire and i will do some logic.
what i have done is.
--Set All Databound items to "checked" --
[code]....
in the end i want the item that was unchecked to be removed (all other items will remain checked). but even before that, when the user control is loaded all the files that were bounded are being deleted by the index change event.

im building a simple message messenger web application, i currently have a column in my database dedicated to the status of a message. Its bound to the third column in a datagrid.
After converting the column to a TemplateField and using a Label to fetch the data how do i change the text from the database to a small message, e.g. if the data in the database (as an interger) is 0. how do i change the interger to a string to display "UnRead". Do i need to do this during the databinding call or after the grid has been databound?
I know it would be easier to use a boolean and checkbox control but the interger column represents more values than true or false.

First, my code:
Code:
<asp:Table>
<asp:TableRow>
<asp:TableCell>Name:</asp:TableCell>
<asp:TableCell><asp:Label>John Doe</asp:Label></asp:TableCell>
</asp:TableRow>
</asp:Table>
I want to change the Label Control to a Textbox Control once I've triggered a Button.Click event. So my output will be:
Code:
<asp:Table>
<asp:TableRow>
<asp:TableCell>Name:</asp:TableCell>
<asp:TableCell><asp:TextBox>John Doe</asp:TextBox></asp:TableCell>
</asp:TableRow>
</asp:Table>
The label part is for display the information from the database. I'm using a button as a trigger to edit that label by changing it to a textbox and I'll be using another button as a trigger to save the changes made in the textbox and then changing it back to a label.

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong section. I have a gridview that loads from a SQL database. It has three columns, the first being a template column with a checkbox, the second being a name from the database, and the third being a field from the database related to that name. (the third column is empty). I want to be able to click on the check box in each row, and automatically have the third column populate with data that the user can select from a drop down list at the top of the screen or something. I am using VB, and I basically just need a way to make this checkbox, add a value from somewhere into the database. (Also, I know that I can just use Edit in the gridview to change data, but there will be a long list, and that way gets quite time consuming) I hope this makes sense, if not I can try rewording it.

I have a asp.net page - manageCustomer.aspx with a button 'SyncCustomers'. When this button is clicked, customer records will be taken one by one from one database and syncd with another database. As it is a long running process, when this button is clicked and process starts, I want to show present status in a label box of the same manageCustomer.aspx page. But inside this button click event, where I have codings for this process, when I try to update text of label box, its not changing in that page. only when all process were completed,last text that i gave for label box is displayed. So, How to give updates of running process in a label?

I have a single event handler for multiple buttons. By default, the label says player 1 and when a button is clicked, the label changes to player 2. How would I go on having it go back and forth between player 1 and player 2 when a button is clicked until one of them wins? Preferably in C#.

I have some problem to understand how this example works with the updatepanel. I have put a ListBox4 and a label inside an updatepanel and put the property for the ListBox to AutoPostBack = true; So what I now am trying to do is when I click on the four items in the ListBox, I want the label to update the new String that is clicked in the ListBox. However what first happens when I click the 2:nd item is that I get the error:
Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. I wonder what the correct way is to do this. I am not sure to know what is right here ? I think many example I do will be solved if I learn this one.

I in page load i change the checkstate of checkbox false to true or true to false, in turn which i expect to fire the check_change state but seems not firing the event
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
chkDegisim.Checked = true;
chkDegisim.Checked = false;
}
protected void chkDegisim_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int a = 1;
}
when i put a breakpoint to chkDegisim_CheckedChanged, it does not fall into the event chkDegisim_CheckedChanged.
chkDegisim's autopostback is true and i have declered chkDegisim_CheckedChanged event in aspx.
why it does not fire chkDegisim_CheckedChanged event?

I am trying to edit data using checkbox value. Firstly, I created popup window which using querystring some data from main page. In popup window, I want to change the checkbox value. For example, I made setSpare column and given the value to show bit data type such as 0 or 1 using checkbox(false or true). If some data has non setSpare(means 0), it wil lbe come out uncheckbox. If I want to check it and clicking submit button, It was not change. I am going to show the code below.
public partial class AddSpare : BasePage
{
string ObjectId;
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
ObjectId = Request.QueryString["ObjectId"];
displayComInfo(ObjectId);
}
protected void displayComInfo(string ObjectId) // it informed relative data on web through using DB.
{
string query = "usp_ShowComputerList";
try
{
using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["SCSConnectionString2"].ConnectionString))
{
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(query, conn);
cmd.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure;
SqlParameter paramobjectId = cmd.Parameters.Add("@ObjectId", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int);
paramobjectId.Value = ObjectId;
conn.Open();
SqlDataReader dr = cmd.ExecuteReader();
if (dr.Read())
{
ModelTxt.Text = dr["Model"].ToString();
ModelTxt.ReadOnly = true;
ComputerTxt.Text = dr["ComputerName"].ToString();
ComputerTxt.ReadOnly = true;
userTxt.Text = dr["UserName"].ToString();
userTxt.ReadOnly = true;

HDDTxt.ReadOnly = true;
RAMTxt.Text = dr["MemorySize"].ToString() + "GB";
RAMTxt.ReadOnly = true;
SerialNoTxt.Text = dr["SerialNo"].ToString();
SerialNoTxt.ReadOnly = true;
TextBox1.Text = dr["Spare"].ToString();
inputChkSpare.Checked = (bool)dr["Spare"]; //(bool)dr["Spare"] display false or true.
dr.Close();
}
}
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
MessagePanel1.Type = MessageType.Error;
MessagePanel1.Text = MessagePanel1.Text = "This is an error." + ex.Message;
