SQL Server :: Creating Tables Programatically ?

Dec 7, 2010

how to create tables in my database programaticlly for my website. I've looked all over trying to figure this out, but cannot seem to get anything. Pretty much what is going to happen is the user is going to create an article, and it will have different sections. So each article will be a table, each table will have columns such as "title", "literature","tags", etc... and each section of the article will be a row. The reason why I need the sections of the article to be rows is because the number of sections in each article will vary.

What is the best way to go about accomplishing this? or is there a better way of doing it? I cannot think of anything.

C# - Creating A Dropdown With Data From Multiple Tables?

Apr 4, 2011

I want to create a dropdown of Vendors. I have a Vendors table in my DB, containing a VendorID and a CompanyID. The Company table contains a CompanyID and a Name.

I would like to have a dropdown with items that have the VendorID as the value and the Company Name as the text. But I don't know how to get the Name field from the related table to put in the dropdown, so I have the VendorID as the value and text. Here's what I have right now.

I'm passing in a model that contains this:

public IEnumerable<Vendor> Vendors { get; set; }

In my controller, I'm setting the value of Vendors like this:

MyDBEntities _entities = new MyDBEntities();
Vendors = _entities.Vendors;

Here is my dropdown list on the page:

<%= Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.VendorId, new SelectList(Model.Vendors, "VendorID", "VendorID"), "- Select a Vendor -")%>

I thought I could create a custom function - GetVendorsForDropdown - that would return only the data I needed, and changing my model to contain IEnumerable<Something>. But I don't know what the return type should be.

DataSource Controls :: Creating A Dataset With Multiple Tables

Jan 29, 2010

I have a dataset with 3 tables that are inner joined. Thsi dataset is connected to an object datasource which is connected to a gridview. So at runtime it displays data from the database. The problem is when I click on a save button to add information to the database it throughs me an error saying Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints. But if i have two tables in my dataset it works 100%. But the problem i need that 3 tables in order to pull the required information. And if i populate the gridview using code to select the information from the database and insert information it also works 100%.

Forms Data Controls :: Creating A Dynamic Textboxes According To Database Tables?

Oct 25, 2010

Example: we have different articles in a database like cars, jewelery, boats. The data related to these articles is different in the tables. I have to show that data in a textboxes and let the user change those data and update. I can do the update and reading the data from database. But the problems is for each item the no.of columns and rows will differ.

My task is I need to get the data according to the use selection in the table with textboxes. I dont know which container (gridview, formview or etc) will suites for my requirement. send me any sample code or any tutorial related to this.

Note: showing the data in a table should be a constraint. Because I should show data row wise (each row contains 3 textboxes and 3 labels (DB table column names))

AJAX :: Linkbuttons In Updatepanel Not Working SOS

Jan 27, 2010

I am building a website using ASP.net ajax. there are 3 <asp:panel> controls in the page and each contains a number of dynamic linkbuttons. these panels are contained in a <asp:updatepanel> control the page_load event fills out the first panel with linkbuttons and assigns cooresponding commandName commandArgument for them, that works. then the first panel's linkbuttons triggers the command and fill out the second panel with linkbuttons, that works too. then the seond panel's linkbuttons are supposed to fill out the third panel with linkbuttons, but that doesn't work anymore, and it seems like doing the page_load event again and filling out the first panel and the second panel's linkbuttons disppear, just like the first time the page is loaded.

AJAX :: Referencing LinkButtons In A Panel?

Mar 23, 2010

I have a control that I use to populate a cascading menu with LinkButtons. All link buttons have the same OnClick event that I want to use to load content as well as change the clicked button's color to show the user which LinkButton they have selected.

My problem is that I don't know how to access any LinkButtons other than the one that is calling the OnClick event, so any colored button remains that color when other boxes are selected.

Is there any way I can reference all LinkButtons within a Panel to clear their colors so only the selected LinkButton is colored?

LinkButtons In A Repeater Within An UpdatePanel Are Not Triggering A Postback

Sep 13, 2010

My page contains a Repeater that is loaded with data asynchronously as the data becomes available, using an UpdatePanel to manage the asynchronous requests.The page contains something a little like this:

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="DataUpdatePanel" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<table>
<asp:Repeater ID="RepeaterBlock" runat="server">
<HeaderTemplate><thead><tr><th>Name</th><th>Status</th><th class="empty"></th></tr></thead></HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate><tr>
[code]...

The problem being that the LinkButton does not appear to trigger a postback of any kind- there is no visible response to clicking on it and putting a break point on the event listener in the codebehind, it is never triggered.
hat the linkbuttons ceased working.

In this repeater linkbuttons are generetaed with an onclick event.This onclick event sets a multiview to the corresponding view.The multiview is in an update panel as well.When a linkbutton in the repeater is clicked the corresponding view is shown, but a complete refresh of the page is done.How can this be prevented, because when I have just linkbuttons on the page (so not in a repeater) that set the multiview to the corresponding view, only the multiview is refreshed instead of the complete page

C# - Dynamic LinkButtons Click Event - How Many Buttons To Create

Jul 7, 2010

I have asp.net page on which I have placeholder and a button. After the button is clicked I want several LinkButtons to appear on my placeholder, and I want specyfic handler to be connected to click_event of my LinkButtons. Here is the code:

protected void Button_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
for(...)
{
LinkButton l = new LinkButton();
l.ID = "link" + i;
l.Command += new CommandEventHandler(link_Command);
PlaceHolder1.Controls.Add(l);
}
}
void link_Command(object sender, CommandEventArgs e)
{
PlaceHolder1.Controls.Clear();
Label l = new Label();
l.Text = e.CommandArgument.ToString();
PlaceHolder1.Controls.Add(l);
}

The LinkButtons will be visible but their event won't fire. How should I solve this? I need to generate LinkButtons inside the Button_Click event, because only then I will know how many buttons to create.

C# - LinkButtons Created Dynamically In A Repeater Don't Fire ItemCommand Event

Jun 2, 2010

I've got a repeater that's used to display the output of a dynamic report that takes criteria from webcontrols on the page. Within the repeater's ItemDataBound method I'm adding controls (Linkbuttons for sorting by column values) dynamically to the header of the repeater based on values selected in a checkbox list and at this point setting the CommandArgument and CommandName properties of the linkbuttons.

The issue is that when the linkbuttons are clicked they don't fire the ItemCommand event although they are clearly being correctly created and added to the header (there is some additional code to set the cssClass, text etc. and this works as expected.) The first column header in the repeater is set in the markup and the itemcommand event fires correctly on this one only. When the other column headers are clicked the repeater rebinds as programmed, but the columns are not dynamically re-generated.

Nightmare.ascx
<asp:repeater runat="server" id="rptReport" OnItemDataBound="rptResults_ItemDataBound" OnItemCommand="rptResults_ItemCommand" EnableViewState="true">

lb.CssClass = "SortColHeader";
lb.CommandArgument = li.Text.Replace(" ", "");
lb.CommandName = "sort";
lb.Text = li.Text;
th.Controls.Add(lb);
((HtmlTableRow)e.Item.FindControl("TRDynamicHeader")).Cells.Add(th);

<p> <textarea rows=10 cols=100 name='POST[3]' onfocus='setSelRange(this, 0, 0)'/>

I have a page with a couple of RequiredFieldValidators, each in its own ValidationGroup. One of the RequiredFieldValidator controls is inside a Datalist and the submit button triggers the relevant DataList_ItemCommand. It works just dandy until I add the ValidationGroup to the button, at which point clicking on the button no longer fires the DataList_ItemCommand event. Here is the HTML

[Code]....

Note that the ValidationGroup name is there, and it is unique. No other ValidationGroups exist with that name. As it stands, this code does NOT fire the DataList_ItemCommand event, so no update occurs. However if I remove the ValidationGroup declaration from the Button control, the event fires properly.

Configuration :: LinkButtons Not Working When Clicked - 404 - File Or Directory Not Found

Nov 9, 2010

So I have a strange problem. I have 2 LinkButtons on a form with their OnCommand event attached. Everything works fine locally when debugging but when I publish the web site with I get the following error:

404 - File or directory not found.

The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

I also tried the OnClick event but I get the same results.

This is being published to IIS 7.

The OnCommand is just doing a redirect. I can manually do the redirect by entering the url the same way it's passed to redirect and it works fine. I also tried putting some code in just to verify that the event really gets called on the server and it seems it doesn't. Although it does work fine locally. I also tried removing all the files from the server and doing a clean publish just to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Web Forms :: Nested Generated LinkButtons & Hidden Divs With Arguments

Feb 26, 2010

I've googled all over for a solution but I cannot seem to find it or understand it if I have looked at. What I want to do is click a link that I generated from txt data that will unhide my div and generate a new series of links. In order to generate these links I need to pass an argument. Then I want to click a generated link (now the 2nd level) to unhide another div and generate another list of links (now a 3rd level) with an argument.

It sounds simple but once I click the 2nd level link (the 2nd generated link) I lose everything as the page reloads. I understand that when I click the 2nd level link it is posting back to the page and wiping out my variables maintaining my generated links. Below I've attached some code that simulates my problem (minus the file calls for generating links). The first link(generated and placed in a panel) reveals div with another set of links based on an argument. The third link (the second link hides the first div) is suppose reveal another div with the message "YAY". The third link does not display the second div but instead refreshes the page.

AJAX :: Dynamically Building Linkbuttons To Update A Panel Through PostBackURL's?

Oct 4, 2010

I have a pretty simple C # page that when the page first loads, a bio is diplayed in that center section based upon sql executed from my code behind. I have 4 link buttons on the page that when clicked, fill that center section with other content based upon which link button they clicked (News, Publications, Contact Info, and Presentations). I was all done, then I thought about using an UpdatePanel to get rid of the annoying "flicker" when the page posts back on the click of the link button.
