View 5 RepliesI am running windows server with asp.net websites and sql server 2008 and IIS 6. It is working fine.
Now I need to move my asp.net websites to another windows server and I have hard time setting correct file security for the new server.
Is there any way to compare or move or see difference file security between two servers?
For some time now I am trying to figure out how I can refactor some of my code to reduce redundancy throughout my application. I am just learning the basics of OOP and can create simple classes and methods but my knowledge is limited in terms of practical applicability. The following bit of code illustrates my frustration:
[Code]....
This bit of code is used on several pages of my project in the pages codebehind file. How can I move this to a class file. I don't know how to reference an object like a gridview in a class because it does not exist like it does on the actual page.
I am developing web application using csharp. How can I change the file name when moving it from one folder to another?
The code I am using is below?

I am using quite a few AJAX toolkit extenders e.g. RoudnedCorners extender, Watermark extender, etc. in my webpage. The problem is that these extendersadd a lot of script code to my webpage causing performance issue. Also, the presence of these extenders works against search engine as the actual content gets pushed down the page, thereby being risked skipped by search engines.
Is there any way where I can move these AJAX control extenders and/or their generated scripts to a different file ?
I want to use authntication which apparently only work on folders. Thus, I wanted to move the Default.asp file into a new folder that I created. When I tried doing this by cut and paste I ran into problems. I changed the reference in the first line of the aspx file "Page" but the code behind VB file no longer sees the aspx page. In other words, the reference to contorls like Listbox1 show up being undeclared.
Is there a way to move the Default file and the related code behind file to a folder so everything works?
I have recently been working on my first ever SQL/ASP.net project and Have been building the database/web pages on my laptop, what I am wanting to do now is copy the database over onto a PC that is currently being used as a server....
On my laptop I am using SQL Server Express 2008 R2, and im guessing the first stage is to install this on the server PC. Now in terms of copying over all the tables, stored procedures etc for the database so tha it would function in the same way as it does on my laptop how do i go about this...what do i need to do? I ahve tried looking at a few articles/posts on the net and it all seems a little confusing.
I created a virtual directory on the new server and I pointed to the location on the server where the webpages are located.
I keep getting this error:Compiler Error Message: CS1705: Assembly 'ClassLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=dd83483ddbd7ed99' uses 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=10.1.0.400, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' which has a higher version than referenced assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=1.111.6.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342'
ClassLib is a dll that is referenced within my site that has functions that were created within it.Within ClassLib there is a reference to the old oracle version. My new server has version 11. Will I have to install version 11 and reference that version within
ClassLib and then recompile and add the new dll to my bin directory?
My company has decided to copy a database from one server to another. I am concerned it will affect all the reports i have done. Will it just be a case of changing the dataset/source name in visual studios or is it more complex than that?
View 2 RepliesI'm writing few custom controls. The server controls inject javascript so that the postback can happen as everyone know.
Is there a solution to move this script to a seperate js file?
We move our hand from a test server onto a brand new server.but we've got a problem with the new server.

View 4 RepliesI want to move some class libraries (server controls in a .NET 4.0 solution) from one folder in windows explorer to another.
How can I do this and not break anything in the actual .NET solution?
I created a ASP.NET project under Visual Web Developer 2008. Under that project I had a Database (along with ASPNETDB.MDF) which has about 3/4 tables (I had SQL server 2008). Everything was working fine (like insert, delete, etc.). And I was able to view the tables in database explorer view.
Then I had to format my computer for some reason and I copied the whole project in a USB drive and then after formatting the computer I copied the folder and tried to open it in Visual Web Developer (now I have VWD 2010). I can see the both Database under App_Data folder (ASPNETDB.mdf and the DB I created). ASPNETDB has all the tables and data as expected. But I do not see the tables under the DB I created.
We are moving some applications from Server 2003 to Server 2008R2 (IIS 7.0)
Have following code that does not seem to work on 2008:
Code:
If InStr(1, UCase(Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER")), "") > 0 Then
Dim Splits() As String = UCase(Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER")).Split(""c)
Session("@User_Id") = Splits(1) 'this will be second part
End If
We are using the 'log on' to check whether a user is authorized to an application. This working fine in 2003.
Is there an equivalent in 2008 or even better, something that works both in 2003 and 2008?
I am having a lot of trouble with a seemingly simple thing. In an ASP.NET webform I have two ListBoxes, with Add and Remove buttons in between. The user can select items in one ListBox and using the buttons, swap them around. I do this on the clientside using javascript. I then also have a SAVE button, which I want to process on the server side when the user is happy with their list.
Problems : First I was getting the following problem when I clicked SAVE :
Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation. I read that one of the methods to get around this was to put my ListBoxes into an UpdatePanel, which I did, and I am getting further.
However, now the event handler for the button's Click event is not being run if the user has used the clientside javascript to alter the contents of the Listboxes. If the user has not altered the contents of the listboxes, the handler does execute.

I am trying to import the SQL file provided by Elmah into my application, and I don't want to import it into the development machine I use. I want to make it a .mdf file so it can be easily transported to my host. I was wondering if there is a way to do this?
View 7 RepliesWith the ajax file uploader, would it be possible to check the size of the image before uploading?Currently, it uploads the file to the server and then lets me know that it's bigger than the limit size.
