Find Which Version Of Assembly Is Used
Apr 26, 2010
I need to know which version of the report viewer control is used on a web server. If I can find it without asking it would be nice.Is there a way, by code, to find out which version of the assembly is used on the server?

How can I use any available version of an assembly on an ASP .NET page?
For example, I use this tag before adding a Crystal Reports control on a web page on my computer:
<%@ Register Assembly="CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=13.0.2000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"
Namespace="CrystalDecisions.Web" TagPrefix="CR" %>
However, if I install this web page on a computer that has a different version of Crystal Reports, I would have to change the version part of the assembly attribute:
<%@ Register Assembly="CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"
Namespace="CrystalDecisions.Web" TagPrefix="CR" %>
Is there any way I can avoid this by instructing ASP .NET to use the newest available version or specify the minimum required version?

I keep getting this strange error (below) on my local machine on the first time the page loads,
Then if I reload it - it loads correctly...
What is really strange is that it does not happen on the server (same settings)
I'm using AJAXControlToolkit.dll version 4.1.40412.2
and this script manager (if not I get the Common.Common.js error)

I had web application developed in VS 2005 + Sql server 2005 + Ajax 1.0 Extension . (Developed in Windows Server 2005) Now i am migrating to VS 2008.(Windows Server 2008 + Sql server 2008)
After opening and compile my Existing application in VS 2008,i am getting error.
Errors :-
Unable to load file or assembly 'System.web.Extenstions'' version=1.0.61025. (I think it because of AJAX Extension version. So i installed AJAX Extension 1.0 but it will give me ambiguous error so i uninstalled.I am added reference for version=3.5.0 but again unsuccessful.) What i will do now? Also i used 'Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum', Version=9.0.242.0 in VS 2005. (Are i have to change it to version=10.0.0.0? by adding reference to new version.) I also used crystal report.(Is there is anything to do with it?)

I just migrated myDocuments folder to a new laptop (windows 7, 64 bit). The visual studio project WAS working on my desktop computer (windows XP pro).
Runtime error is:
ASP.NET runtime error: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f
It references the config file, so I am looking to see if I need to add something in there or what?

I've been using a particular version of a PDF library (PdfSharp), with the dll file in the bin directory (bin/PdfSharp.dll). I use this to prepare, combine, split, and otherwise manipulate PDF files, both those that come from outside my app and those I generate using ReportViewer.
Today I saw there was a new version of the library and naively dropped the new .dll into the bin folder, replacing the old one (I rarely have need to mess with the 2 or 3 dlls in my bin folder and it's been 2 years since I set them up so I wasn't really sure how to proceed and didn't take the time to think too much about it). The PDF generation no longer worked, so I deleted the newer .dll and replaced it with the older one (I have copies in backups, the production server, etc).
Now, although I've confirmed that the dll in the bin folder is the older version (file Properties show correct older version number, file size is older file size, etc), and although the application works correctly, including those parts that call on the library, I can no longer access the data sources for my RDLC files -- when I open an RDLC file in the editor and choose Report->Data Sources, I get this error:
Could not load file or assembly 'PdfSharp, Version=1.2.1269.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=f94615aa0424f9eb' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
I am mystified: I don't understand the connection between a report's data source and this library; I know that the correct version (1.2.1269.0) is in binPdfSharp.dll; and I can find no references to any version of PdfSharp in any file in my application, other than the code that actually calls it (ie, there are no references to it in web.config or the .rdlc files or the dataset .xsd files). I've also been through the registry and find no references to the new version. I've tried deleting the dll and re-adding it using "Add Reference...", and I've tried "Update Reference", all to no avail.

I've just installed ASP.NET version 4.0 and I'm trying to find the local help for it.
(IOW: Accessing help with Document Explorer).
OS is Win XP (updated).
Looking in: Start > All Programs
I do not see an entry for Microsoft .NET Framework SDK v4.0
I do see the old entry for Microsoft .NET Framework SDK v2.0
I've always accessed local help with the following shortcut:
"C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedHelp 8dexplore.exe" /helpcol ms-help://MS.NETFramework.v20.en /LaunchNamedUrlTopic DefaultPage /usehelpsettings NETFrameworkSDK.20
How do I get this to work for version 4.0?
... or ...
Did something go wrong with the install?

I deployed an ASP.NET web application last night and I when I woke up this morning it was very slow and would occasionally just throw a 'Service Unavailable' error.
I checked the Event Viewer and it was filled up with these errors:
An unhandled exception occurred and the process was terminated.
Exception: System.Runtime.Serialization.SerializationException
Message: Unable to find assembly 'MonoTorrent, Version=0.80.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'
I'm puzzled as it was working perfectly when I deployed it (MonoTorrent is required to retrieve the number of seeders/leechers for a certain torrent off the tracker - this was working fine), but it's no longer working and whenever code that uses MonoTorrent gets involved, the worker process just crashes.
MonoTorrent.dll is in the /bin/ directory.
UPDATE 6/4/10: I compiled the MonoTorrent source code in with the rest of my web application, but it still crashes whenever it uses MonoTorrent. However, it now says that it is Unable to find assembly 'OpenPeer, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null. Here, OpenPeer is the name of the web application's assembly.

Trying to unit test a web application using mstest I have that problem with resources included in App_GlobalResources folder in the web applications.
Those resources are built at runtime and because of that they are not found when running the unit tests.
