i am using asp.net and in my .aspx page i have below code and based on the selection i am displaying the divs and which works great. but the question is: how do i get the value (whatever selected by user) on code-behind?

I use html Select in apsx page and bind it to data in database as dropdown:

Then in code behind, I can get the selected item value(which is mapped to ID) as:
myvalue = dd.value;
But I want to get the selected text(which is mapped to Name), not the value in code behind. How to do it?
how to fix my sql syntax so my code works again, i made a few manual entrys for now to see if I can get them to be displayed: The FriendUserID relates to another UserID in the usertable who has obviously a different picture and information but I dont know how to display to concurrent WallPosting's from different users atm.
my code creates a dynamic div gives the div an ID = to the userid and input the wallpost messgaes named wallpostings, it takes the information stored about the userid and applys the image related to that userid, is there any way this can be changed with sql? or have i went down a one way alley?

I would like to select one of the rows of a gridview by default, when the gridview is first created (on databound?).
I know the SelectedValue that I want to select. How can I select that row, i.e. set it as Selected and show it with the SelectedRowStyle, etc.
I see that GridView1.SelectedValue is read only.

I have a grid view with select button in cell[0], a column "comp_name" in cell[2], a textbox and a search button beside it.
I want when I enter a company name in a textbox and click on search button a row contains this company name is being selected.
I have SQLDataSource for my gridview. By default it works fine but i need to determine a few things before calling my procedure. By this i mean i need to determine a few things about the fields completed and set a flag to determine where the procedure will look.
I found a few examples online on passing parameters in code behind, but cant seem to get them to work. Here is what i tried and cant get results back. When i execute the procedure on the SQL side with the same parameter values, it works, so i know its returning results, so means my values are not being sent or im doing something really wrong. I have some of the lines commented out so the page can load and display for now.. but i need to get it working with custom parameters and flags.

I have a need to add my page controls dynamically in code behind.
I do well, adding a dropdownlist, a SQL datasource to populate it, setting it to autopostback=true, and adding a gridview and its SQL datasource.
What I'm unsure about is how to programmatically refer to the SelectParameter, being a control (the DropDownList), and its selected item.

Now the above code is working fine. The only problem is that the date in the date column of the gridview is not in the proper format. What can i do in order to change the format of the date in the gridview. If the format of the date is changed in the databse itself I may be able to use the above SQL query.
The drop down list is used to determine what search criteria will be used to find an invoice. I tried to set the Select method in the switch statement. I don't understand how to set the Select Method and the select parameters programmatically though . I tried a few different ways but can't make the compiler happy. My ODS is in scope in the code behind. I'm not able to access it's properties though. The BAL resides in a separate project that is a ClassLibrary. I also have a using statement for the ClassLibrary project in the code behind.

Can any one let me know about the below issue. I have a page which has three labels, say startdate,enddate and username. My issue is if the user doesnot select any of the above three then a message gets displayed as "Please select one search criteria" or if the user doesnot enter the date in correct format then i dispaly "Please enter date in mm/dd/yy" format. But what is happening is first time if the user doesnot select any then "Please select one search criteria" is getting displayed and after this message gets displayed if the user enters wrong format of date then both the messages are displayed.

I am guessing that the problem is that the declared variable is not picking up the id of the blog entries, instead it picks up everything. The original select and the select in the declared variable are not connected. How do I connect them?
