Showing .aspx Files On Server After "copy Website"-ftp?
Mar 8, 2011
I had problems showing my .aspx files on my server after "copy website"-ftp, as the server had ASP.NET version 2.0. However, html-files worked like a charm. I got my server-dude to install ASP.NET 4.0 on server, and I can now publish an empty aspx-file only containing text without error. BUT, if I add a standard login-form from ASP.Net and copy the website, it says "Server Error in '/' Application", "Configuration Error" blablabla and "Line 8: roleManager enabled = "true"/>" is highlighted in red..And also some IIS-errors. What is IIS? I thought IIS was for people who ran websites from their computers? Is this an IIS-error? What can I do to fix this?

I was thinking about the performance when I use code to hide some control in aspx page using delimiters or in cs file. For e.g. If I have a panel and I want it to get shown following some condition, so I can achieve this by two ways
1: Using code in aspx file, something like this
<% if(isAllowed) { %>
<asp:Panel ...></asp:Panel>
<% } %>
2: In the code file, something like this
<asp:Panel ID="pnlMyPanel" Visible="false"></asp:Panel>
And in cs file
if(isAllowed)
pnlMyPanel.Visible=true;
In my view, first way should be good as it will not at all create any Panel in the page. Am I correct here?

There's a project I'm doing now which is an ASP.net 2.0 written website with SQL database. (it was just assigned to me for deployment and no contact to programmer who is AWOL :-)
Scope of project is to move everything from live site to local server and display/execute exactly the way it does on the livesite (web).
Already configured Windows 2003 server as IIS and successfully restored the database through SQL 2008.
Since I am new to ASP.net deployment this is where my trouble starts: manually copied httpdocs folder to local server, copy website through MS web developer and tried to run it on local machine http://127.0.x.x/default.aspx for the home page. from there I am getting a server error log specifically the line " <configuration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0">"
I know I have some work to do in here I do want to call the attention of ghw123 since he
is familiar with the dynamics of IIS and moving websites. Another thing I would like to point is the local server doesn't display any IP address when running ipconfig or ping from command prompt i simply pull out the ip info from the running IIS service itself. Lastly, I need to figure out which file/folders are really running on the livesite since there are lots of them (for other purpose maybe) on the remote server it is hosted.

I have made an application for some customer that I'm going to transfer to a webhotel.I want to make sure that the application is not copied and used elsewhere without my knowledge. So I have thought of stripping the aspx files from their code behind, that is not the aspx.cs file itself. But from all code inside the cs file, not the one that is automatically generated like page_load etc, but everything else. And when done, then just upload the compiled DLL file(s). Does this work? Are there something to be mindful of if I carry out with this plan.

I am running a web-site with simple .aspx files on a standalone workgroup Windows Server 2008 called 'Max'.I had assumed that the .aspx files were accessed by the 'Network Service' account.The application pool for the website is running with 'Network Service' as the process account.I was puzzled, since 'Network Service' had no permission on these files. So I added event level auditing to the files, and I was suprised to learn that the .aspx files were being accessed by an account called Max$ (ie the computer account).this correct ?Why is the Network Service account not being used ??

I have a requirement to write a web app, that should copy files from one location to another pc. The destination pc is not in the same domain as the source. So in windows explorer when I enter \10.22.12.1 it prompts me for the user id and password. Once I enter them, it shows all the folders in the target pc. Now I need to write the code to copy certain files from the source to the destination.

I followed the instructions from the release notes, except for one thing. I did not include the following in my web.config. Thas the the "bindingRedirect oldversion 1.0.0.0 to newVersion 2.0.0.0". I got an error message to the effect that I could not have 2 configuration sections in the web.config. I was told that as long as I had the system.web.mvc 2.0.0.0 in my BIN and, I was refereincing this same version dll that I should be fine? I am wondering if I should just create a new MVC2 project and copy my MVC1 relevent files into this MVC2 project, not sure.

I've inherited a bunch of code that has server script inside of .htm files.
On IIS, a handler mapping pumps.Htm pages though the asp.net engine.
Unfortunately, visual studio doesn't notice that they should be treated as code.
Is there any way to make VS treat .Htm files as code/aspx files?

I upgraded my site from asp to asp.net.This means that all of my previous asp files became obsolete.I don't want to lose my Google Ranking of the old pages.
What is the proper way to redirect?I tried to catch all of the old asp pages is my 404 and then to:
if Request.QueryString("aspxerrorpath").contains("index.asp") = true then
Response.Status = "301 Moved Permanently"
Response.AddHeader("Location", "http://www.domain.com/index.aspx")
Response.Redirect("/index.aspx")
end if
but it doesn't catch asp pages, only aspx.

I am ready to deploy my first real website to my Hosting Server and was wondering exactly how a simple FTP or Copy of the website files will operate as opposed to proper deployment via publishing the website to a DLL?
Will my Typed Datasets within my .xsd files work normally by FTP'ing them to my server or is there something special i need to do such as build them?
Here are the file types i need to deploy:
1) .aspx and aspx.vb files for my website pages (some in folders such as Admin, etc....)
2) App_Browsers --> CSSMenuAdapter.Browser for use with the CSS Control toolkit
3) App_Code --> several .xsd dataset files. Do these just get FTP'd to the server as well????
4) Bin --> several .dll files for using the CSS Control Toolkit, AJAX Control Toolkits, FCK Editor controls
5) CSS files and folders
6) web.config file
Can i just FTP all of the above folders and files and get the website to work, or does some of this .net 3.5 require publishing to DLL's???

I have a designer working on several pages in Dreamweaver. The designer is creating .aspx files with the Page directive at the top. These are getting shipped to me and I'm adding them to the Visual Studio ASP.NET WebForms Web Application Project. The problem is that there's no code-behind file by default, and I'm trying to find a shortcut to have them autogenerated as if I've added a fresh page from Visual Studio.

I am maintaining a web site project in VS2005 and have to call a new web service on a remote server. I've done add web reference, and created the .wsdl and .discomap files in the app_webReference folder. When I try to create a object representing the web service in the code ( wsnamespace.serviceName ws = new wsnamespce.serviceName(); ) the code wouldn't compile.
The web site project is already calling other web services. When I right click on the type representing the web service and "go to definition" it takes me to a proxy class (derived from of course SoapHttpClientProtocol) in the metadata. I think this is what's missing for the new web service i'm trying to call. Have I missed any steps?

I have a VS 2008 solution. I need to copy an existing .aspx page and re-name it to something else (need to make modifications to that newly copied page). But I keep getting compilation errors saying that duplicate text boxes exist. Can't I have control on different .aspx pages with the same name? How can I do this elegantly?
