Sql - Dynamically Generating Buttons Based On Query Results
Dec 20, 2010
I am trying to add some filters to a gridview that I am working on, and I'm wondering if it is possible to generate links or buttons above the gridview based on the years returned in the dataset. For example, if my dataset contains dates from 2001, 2009, and 2031 in my date column, I would like to be able to take that data from my SQL query (getting a distinct list of years is not an issue), and generate the buttons. From there, I would filter the data in the gridview based on the user clicking the buttons.
Is dynamic generation of buttons possible in ASP.NET? I do have some other ideas of how to accomplish the same functionality, but I would prefer to do it this way.
My application I am using pagination.Using pagination i bind the records with listview control.
I generate the buttons dynamically according to the number of pages which is calculated from number of records returned from dataSource.when i click on a dynamically generated button its corresponding event handlers methods should get evaluated.Since asp.net page is stateless I can't keep the state of that dynamic controls after any postback.
Just Now I have seen the Article "How to get the Id of Control that cause postback in asp.net?". I got some idea from that article. Any example for "Creating link buttons dynamically and handling its corresponding event handler in Asp.Net".
I have an entry page that contains a datalist. I also have an ascx user control page that when it runs on page load, renders an html table template which contains category information from an SQL self referencing table. When the SQL query run on page load, it bind the results to a datalist called dlCategory, and repeats for all rows that have no value in a field in this SQL table called ParentCategoryCode. The SQL table is called ServiceRequestCategories and basically consists of CategoryCode, CategoryTitle, and CategoryDescription, and may or may not have a ParentCategoryCode associated with it.
Records without a ParentCategoryCode are top level categories, and anything that has a ParentCategoryCode are second or third level categories. The way I have the data set up, it ends up being 4 rows that are returned and rendered as 4 html tables. Each one of these is tied to the user control, and each user control runs another datalist, and shows all CategoryTitle values for each Category that has a ParentCategoryCode (second level categories). This works when you click on a LinkButton for any CategoryTitle. This all works fine.
My question is, how can I use an SQL select query to plug the value of the CategoryTitle into a label called lblCategoryBreadCrumb on my main entry page? Here is my code, but it does not seem to work.
Protected Sub ShowBreadcrumbLabel() Dim strSQL As String Dim dsData As DataSet Dim dtData As DataTable
I want to display sql query results in my web application (asp.net webpage) dynamically at the run time. But I don't know how to do that. Is there any control to do that? Or is there any code? Could you give some examples?
I cant seem to find a good example of how to build the query logic. We are allowing users to search based on lat/long and need to add radius as another parameter. So you enter 29.30125 as the latitude and -95.04590 as the longitude and pick say 15miles as the radius, i need to return all records that fall within that radius.. can someone suggest a good site to review this type of query?
What I'm trying to do is take an instance of a control, and figure out what the markup would look like based on the property values set in the code behind. We've built a web-based web form designer. At the end of the design process we save the markup. For simple controls with supported types, generating the markup was easy. For complex controls with nested properties or unsupported types, we're faced with creating a custom markup generator for each custom control. I was hoping to find info out there that would jump start this development effort.
In simple terms, I have this:
Dim Ctl as Control = CType(Asm.CreateInstance("MyNameSpace.MyControl"), Control) Ctl.Name = "Name of my control"
And I want to end up with this:
<cc1:MyControl ID="MyControl1" runat="server" Name="Name of my control" />
I have a website that sales associates access to view account information with clients. S.A's can only view information for accounts that they are tied to. Some clients have more than one account, S.A's can be tied to more than one account, but not all accounts of one client need to be tied to one S.A.
On the account info pages, I have account numbers (dynamically displayed labels) displayed of other accounts that the account client is associated with, which the S.A's can see. I'm modding this so that if the S.A has viewing permissions of any of the other accounts on that list of accounts, that instead of a label being displayed, a button directing them to that account page will display instead. In order for this to work, I have to attach a security function to the button, otherwise the page will blow out on the S.A's.
So I'm running a piece that is displaying a button instead of a label, which is working fine. My problem is when I try to attach the security event to the dynamically displayed buttons. It seems that the page just posts back and doesn't execute my code at all.
On my Page_Load, I'm running this after the buttons and labels are displayed:
For x = 0 to tblAccountList.Rows.Count - 1 'use a try to target the button, use catch to handle if it's instead a label, only one cell per row. Try Dim accountLink as Button = tblAccountList.Rows(x).Controls(0) Addhandler accountLink.Click, AddressOf Me.PermissionViewCheck Catch ex as InvalidCastException Continue For End Try Next
I don't have any code checking for postbacks or anything like that, but the "PermissionViewCheck" event never fires and just reposts the page.
I have an ASP.NET website in which I have to perform a certain operation. I have to displaying the ID's from the DB on menu.aspx page in this format {1:2:3:4}. The above format is not a problem and can be just be written with
[code]....
Note that I am saying that user will type this URL. I know that query string can pass the values from one form to another but this is a single web form and if I attach this ?search=yes, it should return the result. How can this be done?
My project requires to generate a report, wherein the user selects the ccode from the drop down list, and a report as given below is generated:-
CCode TERM Amt INV_No InvAmt Receipt_No Receipt_Amt CC001 50% on signing 10000 INV-001 15000 R001 10000 CC001 20% on submission of report 4000 CC001 20% on submission of draft 4000 CC001 10% on final report submission 1000
I have to generate downloadable good looking pdf reports containing text and chart based data for a commercial application. I found out itextsharp library ( http://itextsharp.com/ ) but it isn't as powerful as I expect.
What components do you use for this kind of requirements? The price is important for me too.

I've googled this to death and can't find anything that points me in the right direction. I want to generate a report that consists of X no. of gridviews (X can vary) where each gridview is added one at a time using ajax (to avoid timeout of rendering all gridviews in single post back). I am also hoping that when rendering the next gridview a progress bar/timer can also appear in it's place until it's finished processing and is rendered.
Does anyone know how I might tackle this? I wouldn't have a problem doing this in a single post back but now the reports are timing out I need to generate the report piece by piece dynamically.
I have a xml file which is currently made manually and I have to make a functionality(UI) where user can enter the data and I have to store the data and generate the xml file dynamically in .NET.
Problem is the format of the xml file. I am not able to decide how I am going to store that data and then dynamically generate xml from that.
find the some of the extract of the code from the xml file below:
I am facing problem with the dynalically generating the image at particular with coordinate points on image map through code behind (aspx.cs). As per my requirement i need to generate Hotspots dynamically and also displaying an image to indicate the Hot spots.
I am planning to generate the UI from database.The platfrom will be ASP.net.Can anyone help in identifying the best design pattern/Architecture that suits for generating the UI and events dynamically.

my problem is i want to generate gropu of texboxes by clicking add button(one row of textboxes).in my application i want to generate one complaint id.one customer may give two or more complaints at a time.suppose,he give two or more pnr numbers and their status andprioirty may differs.for this complaint i need to generate one common complaint id.how it is possible..?
I have a small form with some static elements that I am able to access with javascript the bring up a popup. 4 textboxes are generated and attached to a updatepanel. I've been trying various methods of validating the contols without generating postback.
I found anytime i registered a javascript to the scriptmanager the page must refresh.
I am dynamically generating script code to return transaction data to Google Analytics using their ecommerce script. The code that generates the script is fully tested and functional on my development machine and when I view the page code the script, along with any values that were passed to it, can be seen above the </form> tag. Happy days, or so I thought. For some reason the code is not being generated when I test it in a live, hosted environment. I cant figure out why this is the case as the code is quite simple. I simply generate the script code and register it on the client side (see code below)
//Capture the transaction data for analytics ecommerce tracking //Generate the necessary script code string strAnalyticsEcommerceScript = Analytics_Ecommerce_Script_Creator(); //Register the script on the page Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "AnalyticsScript", strAnalyticsEcommerceScript);
The page in question is called "Order-Successfull" and is where customers are sent to when they have succesfully payed for an order. On this page:
-The order is added to the orders database table - The customer is emailed an order confirmation email - The google analytics script is generated and registered
The Sequence is as follows:
[Code]....
Whats really interesting is that if I move the Analytics script creator code before the code that sends the emails, the script is generated and can be seen when I view the page code. If I do this, however, the emails do not get sent. If I lay the code out as per the code I have inserted in this post, the emails get sent but the script code is not placed on the page.. The code to that actually sends the emails is quite standard:
The SQL is below - each result is coming up 3 times rather than just once.
SELECT Consignments.LegacyID, TripDate, CollectionName, DeliveryName, Pallets, Weight, BaseRate, Consignments.FuelSurcharge, AdditionalCharges, BaseRate * Quantity AS 'InvoiceValue', Consignments.Customer, InvoiceNumber, CASE WHEN child.LegacyID = Consignments.Customer THEN child.LegacyID WHEN parent.LegacyID = Consignments.Customer THEN parent.LegacyID ELSE this.LegacyID END AS 'InvoiceAcc' FROM SageAccount this LEFT JOIN SageAccount parent on parent.LegacyID = this.InvoiceAccount LEFT JOIN SageAccount child on this.LegacyID = child.InvoiceAccount JOIN Consignments on (Consignments.Customer = this.LegacyID AND this.Customer = 'True') OR (Consignments.Customer = parent.LegacyID AND parent.Customer = 'True') OR (Consignments.Customer = child.LegacyID AND child.Customer = 'True') WHERE (this.LegacyID = @Customer) AND (TripDate BETWEEN @fromdate AND @todate) AND (InvoiceNumber IS NOT NULL)
The SQL was given to me for another similar query, but this time I have modified it to try to use it for the query I'm doing now, so I'm assuming that I'm doing something stupid.
I have a query using LINQ-to-SQL. It queries an underlying database table Rooms. It uses Where conditions to narrow down the results, namely:
Gender. Current Occupancy < Max Occupancy Available Flag is Checked
I know this should return results but it keeps returning an empty set. Any ideas? Code is below
Dim selectedHalls = (From sh In dbHalls.Rooms _ Where sh.gender = Session("gender").ToString _ Where sh.max_occupancy > sh.current_occupancy _ Where sh.is_available = 1 _ Select sh.building_name).Distinct()
UPDATE: I've verified that the issue is with the statement where sh.is_available = 1, which doesn't make sense since this is a bit field.
