Generating Output On Query String
Jan 17, 2011
I have an ASP.NET website in which I have to perform a certain operation. I have to displaying the ID's from the DB on menu.aspx page in this format {1:2:3:4}. The above format is not a problem and can be just be written with
[code]....
Note that I am saying that user will type this URL. I know that query string can pass the values from one form to another but this is a single web form and if I attach this ?search=yes, it should return the result. How can this be done?

I have a dynamic gridview which can be used to add new rows of two columns to specify a start date and an end date. I am trying to use a string collection to pass in the output from the textboxes to a parameterized query as shows. I am getting an incorrect syntax near 9 error. How can I make this work? I need to use the stringbuilder.
protected void btnSaveIterations_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int rowIndex = 0;
StringCollection sc = new StringCollection();
if (ViewState["CurrentTable"] != null)
{
DataTable dtCurrentTable = (DataTable)ViewState["CurrentTable"];
if (dtCurrentTable.Rows.Count > 0)
{
for (int i = 1; i <= dtCurrentTable.Rows.Count; i++)
{
//extract the TextBox values
TextBox box1 = (TextBox)Gridview1.Rows[rowIndex].Cells[1].FindControl("start_iteration");
TextBox box2 = (TextBox)Gridview1.Rows[rowIndex].Cells[2].FindControl("end_iteration");
start_date = box1.Text;
end_date = box2.Text;...............

I have 3 tables where i need to retrieve records. Please consider the following scenario:
MtblPaymentTerms
CCode TERM Amt
CC001 50% on signing 10000
CC001 20% on submission of report 4000
CC001 20% on submission of draft 4000
CC001 10% on final report submission 1000
MtblInvoice
CCode INv_No InvAmt InvDate
CC001 INV-001 15000 20/12/2010
MtblReceipt
CCode Receipt_No Receipt_Amt InvAmt Balance
CC001 R001 10000 15000 5000 (InvAmt - Receipt_Amt)
My project requires to generate a report, wherein the user selects the ccode from the drop down list, and a report as given below is generated:-
CCode TERM Amt INV_No InvAmt Receipt_No Receipt_Amt
CC001 50% on signing 10000 INV-001 15000 R001 10000
CC001 20% on submission of report 4000
CC001 20% on submission of draft 4000
CC001 10% on final report submission 1000
generating a SQL query for this report?

I am trying to add some filters to a gridview that I am working on, and I'm wondering if it is possible to generate links or buttons above the gridview based on the years returned in the dataset. For example, if my dataset contains dates from 2001, 2009, and 2031 in my date column, I would like to be able to take that data from my SQL query (getting a distinct list of years is not an issue), and generate the buttons. From there, I would filter the data in the gridview based on the user clicking the buttons.
Is dynamic generation of buttons possible in ASP.NET? I do have some other ideas of how to accomplish the same functionality, but I would prefer to do it this way.

I have a simple function that is supposed to create a string of year values(separated by a comma) from a form that contains checkboxes for a set of years.
[Code]....
The problem is, it is doubling data somehow. For example, if I check the checkboxes for 2008, 2009, 2010, it will return :
,2010,2010,2009,2010,2009,2008
But I can't figure out why it is doing this...is there something I am doing wrong?

I plan to use output cache for my page and also specify sql dependencyi succeded in doing it the following way
[Code]....
Suppose if i want to implement a dependency on the sql query , i create an sqlcache dependency object and specify the sql command to it.Set the notifications .But how do i add this sqldependency to the output cache?For example: if i need to add a file dependency, i give something like Response.AddFileDependency ("filepath"); is there any similiar command available for sqldependency as well? I'm confused about this because, most of the examples i've looked into, does a cache.insert , which defeats my purpose as it's object caching and not output caching. In a nutshell, is it possible to attach a sqlcachedependency to o/p cache inside the controller action

In order to generate clean markup, I often resort to using code similar to this:
<asp:Literal ID="ltItem" runat="server">
<li class="{0}"><a href="{1}">{2}</a></li></asp:Literal>
And in the codebehind:
[code]....
Therefore my question:
Is this a common way to generate clean markup? Are there better alternatives? Is the databinding syntax approach preferable?

DataContractJsonSerializer this is nice class added in the .net framework which can be used to serialize/desirealize object into JSON.
Now following is the example i am trying
[Serializable] class User { public string name; public string userId; }
Now following is the output generated
Output : Notice structure where only "name" is expected instead of k__BackingField
Now this is the problem after digging so much i am not sure from where <> and _BackingField is coming ?
{
"<name>k__BackingField":"test user",
"<userId>k__BackingField":100001}

In my database when anyone registers - By default the registration time is saved as UTC universal time zone.
But i want to display everything on the website in (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
I am using this SQL QUERY to display registration date:
SELECT TOP (5) Username, CustomerID, RegistrationDate = CONVERT(VARCHAR(12),RegistrationDate,107) FROM Customer ORDER BY RegistrationDate DESC
And, i am displaying it like this:
<asp:Label ID="nameLabeldate" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("RegistrationDate") %>' />
The problem is the output is getting displayed as : 10/20/2010 1:36:01 PM
I know RegistrationDate is datetime stamp that's why i am getting output in this format.
But i want to display RegistrationDate as: Oct 20, 2010 at 1:36pm -> according to (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) ORDER BY RegistrationDate in Desc (top most will be last registered user)

I am developing a webiste in ASP.NET. On one of the pages page named menu.aspx, with the help of a certain login, I am getting the output in this format
foo({"1":"Jeff","2":"Mik","5":"Tom"});
I am using this code to get the output on the JSON form.

However, I must get the output only in simple JSON on the page without any HTML.
For eg: Here's the screenshot showing the source of the output page. [URL]
Notice that it has only the JSON string as the output.
And here's the screenshot showing the output page source (with HTML). [URL] .This HTML is what I have to remove. How can do I do this? The full code of menu.aspx.cs is putup here. [URL]

I currently work on an in-house 'CMS' that is fairly old. It has one 'content' field where the html of a CKEditor is saved and presented to each content page.
What I would like to do is be able to replace some special tags with the output of a control. So for example:
The content string would be
[Code]....
Then, when rendering the page, replace the '[%LatestNews(to=2010/01/01)%]' with the result of a user control. The user control may contain a asp:Repeater control or something that lists the required content.

I had an interview recently, and had a question that I couldn't really answer
They gave me a string (One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven.....)
they wanted an output, something like:
Six, two, five, three......
(I'm not 100% sure of the exact strings) They wanted the logic flow I'd use to get the output from the beginning string.
Can anyone help me understand this flow and how it could be programmed?

I have a simple ASP.net page:
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<p><asp:TextBox id="input_box" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:Button Text="OK" runat="server" OnClick="run" /></p>
</form>
I want to send input from input_box to a query string, and then keep this input in the input_box when the page reloads.
That's the code behind page:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
input_box.Text = Request.QueryString["input"];
}
protected void run(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string url = string.Format("?input={0}", input_box.Text);
Response.Redirect(Request.Url.AbsolutePath + url);
}
Problem is that when query string is not empty, string from input_box cannot be passed to query string. How to correct it?

We are sending an HTML encoded string in the Query string. It was working fine on IIS 6 (windows 2003). We have recently moved the website to Windows 2008 (IIS 7.x). Since the move any Query String that contains "+" sign i.e., "%2b" gives error on the server "404 -File or directory not found."
