Trying To Use The Sharepoint Object Model From Page?

Jan 7, 2011

I am having an issue with something that seems like it should be simple. I am just trying to use the sharepoint object model from an ASP.net page. It's running on Framework 3.5 (required by sharepoint), and I realize it needs to be set to build on x64 (also required by sharepoint from what I understand). The issue is when I do this it returns "Could not load file or assemply ". If I switch it to any CPU then it reports that the call to build SPSite can't find the site address.

Basically if I open a brand new web app project and switch it to framework 3.5 and build target x64 it will report this same error. It seems like I am doing something stupid but I have no idea what it could be.

Jquery - Web Application Accessing SharePoint Object Model?

Sep 21, 2010

I have an asp.net 2.0 web application that will run on the same web servers as SharePoint Server 2007. The application should run in its own App Pool (IIS 6.0). The Web Application needs to call the SharePoint Object model API.

Is there a resource that explains the required configuration / security settings and other considerations? It is possible that I need to make some settings in SharePoint Admin Console itself; aswell as config files. Script files might need to be located in a specific location in order to be accessible. Assemblies may need to be signed.

I can only get partial success running my Web application. But only if it is deployed to a Virtual Directory that resides under the SharePoint Website (in IIS & File system). Even with this setup, I JQuery / Javascript throw errors when accessed (object null); and also images not loading.

I have made some changes to the Web applicaton web.config file which have allowed me to run the application albeit the above mentioned issues with scripts and images (Virtual directory properties also set to allow scripts and executables to run). Ajax functionality appears to work OK.

Access Office Word Object Model Through Asp Results - Error 80070005 - COM Object Not Registered

Aug 13, 2010

I have developed a website that allows users to upload office documents then uses the office object model to convert the document to an HTML file that it then displays in an iFrame. I have, of course, included references to Office.interop.word, and the site works fine on my development machine. When I uploaded it to my production server the site functions fine until I try to upload a document. I initially got a similar error that said "COM object not registered". I realized that Word wasn't installed on my production server. So I installed word and now when the server tries to access the word object model I receive the following error:

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005 Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

I searched the registry for the corresponding CLSID and found a corresponding folder. I added full control to the IUSR_ account and due to the persistence of the error I eventually added full control to "everyone" and ensured these permissions inherited down to the rest of the folder. I then added full control to IUSR_ and again eventually added full control to "everyone" to my microsoft office folder. I don't know what other permissions to grant and where in order to make this "Access is denied" error go away. I must be granting them in the wrong place, because as far as I know I can't be any more permissive than "Everyone" "Full Control".

Unable To Use Webclient Object To Download A File In SharePoint Email Enabled Document Library?

Feb 22, 2010

I am using webclient object to download a file to a windows folder from a sharepoint document library. The credentials I am passing to the webclient object are that of site collection administrator. everything works fine while i test it by uploading a file to the document library. But since the document library is email enabled; when an email is received the file is not transferred to the windows folder. i have put some workflow history events to see which user account is used when the email is received. the user account shown is the network service account. I have given write permissions on the folder to all the users; Everyone, Network service, the site collection administrator user etc. but still i cant figure out what is the problem.

C# - Get List<Model> Object In HTTP POST?

Dec 29, 2010

I have two model classes:

public class UserModel
{
public Guid Id { get; set; }
public string EmailAddress { get; set; }
public string LoginName { get; set; }
public string Password { get; set; }
}
public class GroupModel
{
public Guid Id { get; set; }
public string Name { get; set; }
public List<UserModel> Users { get; set; }
}

I created a View (Create.Aspx) by inheriting GroupModel class.

<%@ Page Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<MyApp.Models.GroupModel>" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head runat="server">
<title>Create</title>
</head>
<body>
<% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%>
<%: Html.ValidationSummary(true) %>
<fieldset>
<legend>Fields</legend>
<div class="editor-label">
<%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.Id) %>
</div>
<div class="editor-field">
<%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Id) %>
<%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Id) %>
</div>
<div class="editor-label">
<%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.Name) %>
</div>
<div class="editor-field">
<%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Name) %>
<%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Name) %>
</div>
<p>
<input type="submit" value="Create" />
</p>
</fieldset>
<% } %>
<div>
<%: Html.ActionLink("Back to List", "Index") %>
</div>
</body>
</html>

It is generating only two fields (Id, Name) in my aspx view. Also I am able to get the form data in the Model class object in ё[HttpPost]ё request which contains the data for ID and NAME field in controller.

[HttpPost]
public ActionResult Create(GroupModel groupModel)
{
try
{
// TODO: Add insert logic here
return RedirectToAction("Index");
}
catch
{
return View();
}
}

How can I get the data in List<UserModel> object? I am thinking to Put a List control with checkboxes containing Users. Then catch them using FormCollection object in controller.

C# - MVC 2.0 - Using Partial Classing Or Inheritance On Database / Object Model?

May 4, 2010

I ask this because i'm using Partial classing to extend my db model, and in doing so some snags i've run into using inheritance and also snags i've run into declaring my db model in another class as a property and just using it like that ie: Public Property DBModelClass as DBModelClassType - however, doign direct partial classing has worked out the best, with no snags... except for an issue i seem to be running into now.

that is, i create new properties with half-page code in the 'Get' part of the property decleration, these are like virtual/new properties that the db or db model isn't supposed to know anything about, the sort of stuff you generate/use but without saving it in your db, as i'm sure all of you have these. every time i submit my DBModel through an action, somehow, one of these properties 'Get' section is running (being called) even though i'venever asked for it to. of course, because it aint ready to run (it shouldn't) errors like null errors get returned (however, they wouldn't error if it were to run only when i asked for it to).

edit:

so this second part of my question, are all properties in a model generated from a db (linq to sql) ran or called by the model state automatically? without being asked to do so?

an aside:

(i do do a modelstate.isvalid - however, this running occurs before isvalid is called as it errors out before i even see validation information). that being, is the auto calling of all properties on a db model object even when not used normal? i tried using bind(false) and scaffold off on the problemed properties. and the first part of my question, just as a reminder, is if i should or should not be using partial classing as a substitute to inheritance when extending db model's?

Unable To Call The SharePoint Custom Web Service From Another SharePoint Farm

Jan 12, 2011

I have deployed a custom SharePoint Web service on Farm A. I am trying to access this Web service from a SharePoint timer job on Farm B. On Farm B, I am creating Class Library project, packaging it (wsp) and then deploying to GAC. The problem is I'm unable to access the Web Service using the following code. TodaysNewSVC is a service reference

TodaysNewSVC.GetTodaysnewsfromInsite objGetNews = new TodaysNewSVC.GetTodaysnewsfromInsite();
objGetNews.PreAuthenticate = true;
objGetNews.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
objGetNews.Url = "http://insite-dev.portal/_vti_bin/todaysnews.asmx";
DataTable dt2 = objGetNews.getNewsFromInsite(true, true);

//getNewsFromInsite is a WebMethod which returns the DataTable.

Note: Both farms use the same active directory authentication. I have also done the debugging for Timer Job and feature activation and they are working fine. The problem occurs during the call i.e. getNewsFromInsite
The asmx and wsdl files are accessible from Internet Explorer and also from Windows Console application. Here is the code which I use from console application:

GetTodaysnewsfromInsiteSoapClient objWSClient = new GetTodaysnewsfromInsiteSoapClient();
objWSClient.ClientCredentials.Windows.ClientCredential = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials;[code]...

MVC - Factor Repository Interfaces Based On Multi - Level Object Model?

Feb 15, 2011

I've got a multi level dependency chain in my object model: An organization has the following children relationships:

Organization
.CompetitionGroups
.CompetitionGroups.Venues
.CompetitionGroups.Competitions
.Divisions.Games
.Divisions.Games.Participants
.Divisions.Games.Participants.GameSegments
.Divisions.SubDivisions...
.Divisions
.Teams
.Teams.Players
.Teams.Participants
.Teams.Participants.GameSegments
.VenueDates

This is just a glimpse at the object model, but it's focused on the complexity of the relationships and lists. What I can't really get is what's the best way to factor my repository interfaces, given the requirements to do a unit of work. For example, to create a game, you'll need a venuedate and two participants. Does that mean the GamesController should require an IGameRepository, an IVenueDateRepository, and an IParticipant repository? Should they be rolled into one repository?

Also, what about in the consumption cases? For example, to display a signle team's schedule, you'll need all of the Participants for that Team, all of the Games for that participant, and all of the GameSegments for the participant. If those are factored into individual repositories I can't see how you can do efficient queries. Does that mean you have Repositories specifically focused on different cases? for example:

public interface IScheduleRepository {
public ICollection<Game> GetScheduleForTeam(Team team);
// More consumption methods
}
public class ScheduleRepositry : IScheduleRepository {
public ScheduleRepository (ModelContext context) {
// Do stuff with context
}
public ICollection<Game> GetScheduleForTeam(Team team) {
return (
from p in context.Participants
where ((p.Game.VenueDate != null) &&
(p.TeamId == team.Id))
orderby p.Game.VenueDate.StartTime
select p.Game).ToList();
}
// more consumption methods
}
public interface IGameRepository {
public void AddGame(Game game);
// More crud methods
}
// Not showing games repository
public class GamesController : Controller {
public GamesController (IGameRepository gamesRepo,
IVenueDateRepository venueDateRepo,
IParticipantRepository participantRepo) {
// do stuff with repos here
}
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult AddGame(Game game) {
// Skipping validation logic
// this?
VenueDate = venueDateRepo.Add(game.VenueDate);
foreach (Participant p in Game.Participants)
{
participantRepo.Add(p);
}
Game = gamesRepo.AddGame(game);
// or this?
// how would the game repo know to persist
// the children elements? is that tight coupling?
Game = gamesRepo.AddGame(game);
}
// more consumption methods
}

My question is I don't yet understand to what degree factoring your repositories make sense based on a connected object model. I'd love to get some advice here.

MVC :: Saving A Complex Child Object After Post (LINQ To SQL Model Binding With MVC)

Jan 6, 2011

I am using ASP.Net MVC2 and LINQ to SQL. I am using DataAnnotations and model binding in conjunction with a Form/View and its working beautifully well. Loving that.. My view is an "Add new Employee" form that's adding a new "Employee" complex object. Every Employee also has a child complex object called an "Address".
I am using the bound Html helpers in the view, such as Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.NewEmployee.FirstName) for example. Working beautifully well, validating beautifully well both client and server and coming into the controller fully populated and ready to be saved! Exciting.. ModelState.IsValid returns true and I go to save the new Employee.

The Employee is created fine but the system also creates a blank/new Address record in my Addresses table even when the Address fields are blank! How can I prevent any Address from being created, in situations where I ONLY want to create a new Employee with no Address. An example is when the user supplies an existing Address, then I wish to simply set the new Employee's AddressID to that of an existing physical address (I hope that makes sense). But it could apply to any situation where you need to create a new complex object, but you don't wish for LINQ to create any of its child complex objects. I have tried setting NewEmployee.Address = null after it is received in the controller, but even after that, a blank/new Address is still created. Even if I try NewEmployee.Address = SomeExistingAddress, it does correctly link the Employee to the existing Address, but it STILL goes off and creates another redundant new/blank address record! Which is really weird..

MVC + LINQ To SQL Model Binding - Saving A Complex Child Object After Post

Jan 5, 2011

I have a "Create New Employee" ASP.Net MVC form. My complex object is an Employee and an Employee has an Address, which is another Complex object. On my View/Form I collect all required values for both the Employee and the Address. I'm using the bound HTML helpers such as: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.EmployeeAddress.StreetName)

AND

Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.NewEmployee.FirstName)

This is all working beautifully well. Model binding is working like a dream, both server side and client side validation using DataAnnotations is working beautifully well and I am nicely receiving my populated complex objects as expected in the Controller.. Now I'm trying to save.. The Employee should always be newly created, because its an "Add New Employee" form. But sometimes the Address is an existing Address and I don't want to insert another one. Rather, I just want to link the Employee to the existing AddressID of the one that already exists in the database.

So I wrote a nifty GetExistingOrCreateNewAddress(Address PostedAddress) method which works great so I end up with the correct Address to use and link to the about to be saved Employee object. This is all happening in the same DataContext, so no problems there..

BUT even when I link the about to be saved Employee object to an existing Address, on save a new/empty Address row is created in my Addresses table. Even though the newly created Employee does link correctly to the existing Address I told it to! Why is it so??? And how can I save the new Employee without LINQ automatically creating a blank Address for me. Because I'm explicitly specifying an existing Address it should be linked to instead!

[HttpPost]
public ActionResult CreateEmployee(EmployeeDetailsViewModel NewEmployeeDetails)
{
if (ModelState.IsValid)
{
EmployeeRepository ER = new EmployeeeRepository();
// Fetch or Create the appropriate Address object for what has been entered
Address ActualAddress = ER.GetExistingOrCreateNewAddress(NewEmployeeDetails.EnteredAddress);
// Link this Address to the "about to be saved" Employee
NewEmployeeDetails.Employee.Address = ActualAddress;
// Lock it in..
ER.SaveNewEmployee(NewEmployeeDetails.Employee);

MVC :: Compound View Model Object Causing Remote Validation Failure?

Feb 12, 2011

I have used a pattern of compound view models for a few of the forms in this project. It works very well.

In this case I have a VendorAddress view model. I use Address(es) in a few places in this project so I made and Address view model object that I can re-use. Then I desided I want to do a very thorough checking of the state codes and zips so, I desided I would try to use remote validation and check the state and zip code aganst a stored set of tables in the database.

The problem is I am not getting values back to the remote action methods for the fields I'm asking for (in this case State and PostalCode). I believe this is because of the name mangleing that the MVC framework does for compound or sub types for id(s) for the inputs in this case it is making names like 'Address_Line1' and 'Address_State' and 'Address_PostalCode'.

Ultimately the question I have is, is there a way of turning off the pre-pended 'Address_' from the base view model object in a way that MVC framework can put it bak into the object after ther post of the form?

[Code]....

Then in the form after rendering it looks like this:

[Code]....

I get the remote call but there is nothing in the parameters "State" and "PostalCode", so the unobtrusive routines are firing but I think it does not know where to look for the data even though I have type something in the mensioned fields. As you can see in the rendered code the id="Address_State" and the data-val-remote-additionalfields="*.State,*.PostalCode"
