Vb.net - Get Work DataSet When Connection Losts?
Jan 12, 2011
I made a basic program that connects and gets content from a table via SQL, it's working normally. What I want is; when connection losts via SQL Server or internet connection, it must continue to list items that it got before connection losts instead of giving "Connection Problem Error".Code is like this:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim strSQL As String
Dim conn As New SqlConnection
[code]...

I have a DataSet that I have added to my project where I can Insert and Add records using the Add Query function in Visual Studio 2010, however I want to add transactions to this, I have found a few examples but cannot seem to find one that works with these.
I know I need to use the SQLClient.SQLTransaction Class somehow. I used the Add New Data Source Wizard and added the Tables/View/Functions I need, I just need an example using this process such as How to get the DataConnection my DataSet has used. Assuming all options have been set in the wizard and I am only using the pre-defined adapters and options asked for in this wizard, how to I add the Transaction logic to my Database.
For example I have a DataSet called ProductDataSet with the XSD created for this, I have then added my Stock table as a Datasource and Added an AddStock method with a wizard, this also if a new item calls an AddItem method, if either of these fails I want to rollback the AddItem and AddStock in this case.

I have an asp.net nTier application. The data access layer is a strongly typed DataSet consisting of multiple DataTables with DataAdapters. When the user logs in, they choose which database to connect to (from a table in the membership database). I need to pass the selected connection string into the DataSet object which will remain the same for that users until they log in again. I'm thinking that the answer might be to create a partial class of the DataSet object where I can pass the connection string into the constructor. Im not sure how to go about this though.

I created a DataSet(right-click project-->add new item-->DataSet) and then a TableAdaptor to it with table from database. However, when i bring the project to others computer and run, it has error.I look into the DataSet in xml and found that the path to database is actually on the computer that created the DataSet(C:DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGSUSERDESKTOPPROJECT NAMEAPP_DATADATABASENAME.MDF) My database file is located at the App_data folder. May i know is there a way to config so that whenever i run the project on different computer, the path will auto change??

I recently have a problem while switching from regular sql datasource to the object datasource using the dataset object.
I have only 1 sql server so I create 2 database 1 for testing and 1 for running. After I create the dataset object I can use it fine with my test site and database. However, when I upload to it use on the production database (I actually just have to switch the sql connectionstring in web.config), I keep getting error of target of invocation throwing errors.
When I do a search for the test database in the project, I can see that in the dataset object the test database's name is automatically added to my select stored procedure name (i.e. [Test].[dbo].[My_stored_procedure] instead of just [dbo].[My_stored_procedure]). I thought this is my problem but even when I replace [Test] with my [Product] database name it still won't work.

I am designing a web application and have separate layers for UI, BAL, DAL and DB, while using custom business objects and collections. The app will be used by over 10,000 + registered used and it becoming more complex as I add new functionality such as inline editing and batch processing of collections with transactions ... which has me up late at night trying to design the best approach for this ...In some UI web forms, I bind say 3 controls to 3 different collections. The UI calls the BAL classes for the required collections, then binds the collection returned. So for each collection I want, a db connection is opened and closed. As I understand database connectivity adds overhead so Is there anyway I can design this so 1 database connection is created for a unit of work in a 3-tier or n-tier architecture?

I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and my database is SQL Server 2000.
I want to add a connection to the Server Explorer in VS. The Data source is Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). After entering in all my information and I click Test Connection, it is successful.
But when I click OK, I get the error:
Unable to add data connection. ExecuteScalar requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is closed.

In my project I work with Entity Framework (LINQ to ENTITY). I only have ADO.NET Entity Data Model and a DAL (Data Access Layer). I also get the data due a WCFClientService. I have a gridview that needed to be exported in Excel.
FlexCel is a tool for generating Excel files based on a template. The only thing I see in demo's is that they work with DataSets.
Is there a way to convert the data in my gridview to a virtual DataSet?
I've written the following method to get the data:

Till now I used to design RDLC file before and assigned typed dataset table columns.Report processing mode is local. But now my stored procedure returns different columns based on condition i.e columns are not fixed every time. Now I need to add that columns to typed dataset and dataset is assigned to RDLC file. So dataset and RDLC files are create dynamically based on stored procedure result set columns.

What I am thinking is this? Is it possible for me to upload the data from an excel file to dataset of my application first, so that the user can view the data in a gridview to review it first, before the user strike the save button, to save it in the database. So, that in case there is a problem, the gridview will high light all the data with an error. So the user can easily pull out the excel and correct the data before saving it in the database.

In my DAL i have more than 100 methods/Function, each and every method am opening the sqlconnection and closing the connection, this is taking too much of time to establish the connection at every time. So what i expect is one common class will create the SqlConnection that will check if the connection is Broken or Closed then create the connection again else return the connection, how to do this(Also i would like to apply ConnectionPooling).

It pops up the Notification about the ASP.Net Development Server localhost but doesn't open ASP.Net Configuration in the default browser.I clicked on the Root Url (by double clicking on the 'development server' at the right bottom from Notification Manager).
It throws following error
"An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again."
Clicking on "How do i use this tool".It opened page with error.

I am preparing for an Access2007 db conversion at the beginning of the year and would like to know what the best process would be for connecting to the sqlserver2005 database. I have read about adding the connection string to the web.config file. I have also read about using ADO.NET and put the connection information into a class and not the web.config file.
I would like to hear from others as to what you have used, are using, or plan on using for a webapp (vs2010), and why so I can get an understanding.
