using asp.net / sql server on windows 2003 server
For some reason I have a solution with a single project and the solution files are in the same directory as the project is. I consider this ugly and want to change it by moving the solution files in a superordinate directory.
For now I have edited a single line in the .sln file:
Project("{FAE04EC0-AAAA-AAAA-AAAA-00C04F79EFBC}") = "projectname", "projectname.csproj", "{5D5A753D-AAAA-AAAA-AAAA-C535851E8DC8}"
changed to
Project("{FAE04EC0-AAAA-AAAA-AAAA-00C04F79EFBC}") = "projectname", "directoryname/projectname.csproj", "{5D5A753D-AAAA-AAAA-AAAA-C535851E8DC8}"
It seems to work.
Could this have been all I needed to change? I have the feeling that I missed something.
Sometimes i move files and folders by mistake. Is there a way to prevent this. Something like putting a "lock" on the position of files and folders?
View 6 RepliesI have 5 GB data, when I move from SQL server 2000 to 2008 with Import and Export wizard, my LDF size is increased to 30 GB, Can I reduce my LDF file or move. In my one of the table contain around 20 Lakh data which i have normalized in 2008 and create 4 tables, so my data is entering in normalized form in 2008. But due to size by hard disk is full. I have used shrnik command but it reduce to only 1 GB.
View 5 RepliesI'm currently writing a website in ASP.NET MVC, and my database (which doesn't have any data in it yet, it only has the correct tables) uses SQL Server 2008, which I have installed on my development machine. I connect to the database out of my application by using the Server Explorer, followed by LINQ to SQL mapping.
Once I finish developing the site, I will move it over to my hosting service, which is a virtual hosting plan. I'm concerned about whether using the SQL Server setup that is currently working on my development machine will be hard to do on the production server, as I'll have to import all the database tables through the hosting control panel. I've noticed that it is possible to create a SQL Server database from inside Visual Studio. It is then stored in the App_Data directory.
Does it make sense to move my SQL Server DB out of SQL Server and into the App_Data directory as an .mdf file? If so, how can I move it? I believe this is called the Detach command, is it not? Are there any performance/security issues that can occur with a .mdf file like this? Would my intended setup work OK with a typical virtual hosting plan? I'm hoping that the .mdf database won't count against the limited number of SQL Server databases that can be created with my plan.
I want to do file attachment funtionality with an email page. Please guide me on one thing, does attached file is send to recipient email server or it stayed on sender's mail server and its link is send ? For email if I send email from my hotmail address to gmail address will attached file be physically copied to gmail mail server or just its link (on hotmail ) will be sent and file will remain on hotmail mail server ?
View 1 RepliesWe have an already existing project on IIS and we want to move to Apache (windows) with mod_aspdotnet. What things could not work? If we use 3rd party DLLs? Will office components work fine (export to Excel, Word, etc). If you have any experience on this type of migration, I'd like your inputs! Also, is there another alternative to mod_aspdotnet?
View 1 RepliesI have an ASP .net Web Application already deployed on my local machine (virtual directory/IIS are configured). I used the Publish tool from Visual Studio. Now I want to move it to our Webserver (I have the IP adress and the appropriate credentials).
EDIT By the way, I'm asking because I don't know if there is a specific way to do this? I can do it manually by moving the files to the remote computer and configure IIS approriately.
In my live server we have total nos of approx 200 reports and 50 email subscriptions created by us. Now we are planning to change our existing hardware configuration and due to some other reasons, now the current live server we will not use in future, In view of same we want to move our all our reports and email subscription to other new server and that new server will be our next live server.Now the problem is that i have 50 email subscription which i have created in old server so how can i move this subscription to new server? Reports can be deployed to new server by taking the backup. Is there any other concern in such situtation?

i'm tring to connect a ql database to my website but the data r not getting added in the table..
ut when i use the query builder there the data is been added successfully when done for testing the connection.i'm using sqlserver2005 in vs-2008.
I have moved my entire project to my test server, everything went as planned with the exception of a couple of items. The main one that I'm having troubles with deals with subfolders of the website. On my local computer I created a my project then I created a sub folder, Secure, so that I can work with the security on the sub folder via ASP.NET configuration. I wanted only certain users to be able to access the folder, which works on my local computer, but when I try to navigate to it on my test server, I get a 404 error. I create two Roles on my local computer, but don't know if I'm able to make those roles on my test server. Is there a way to make those roles so that the security that I have on the sub folder will allow them to be displayed. Not certain why I get a 404 error.

View 1 RepliesI manage a large asp.net site which has previously been converted from static html site to asp.net. For several reasons (mainly SEO) we decided not to rename all the files to .aspx back when we originally converted the site. This was very easy to do by simply adding the buildProvider and httpHandler to the web.config.
<buildProviders>
<add extension=".html" type="System.Web.Compilation.PageBuildProvider"/>
</buildProviders>
<httpHandlers>
<add path="*.html" verb="*" type="System.Web.UI.PageHandlerFactory"/>
</httpHandlers>
Now I am upgrading the site to use Asp.net WebPages with Razor cshtml files. I can rename all the files if necessary, and use url rewriting to make the urls stay the same, however it would be much easier if I could just configure the web.config to tell it to parse .html files as if they were .cshtml. I have searched around quite a bit, and could not find anything equivalent to the PageHandlerFactory for razor pages. It appears as though it is just an internal mechanism in the .net 4.0 ISAPI handler.
The site is currently running on Windows 2003 server and IIS 6. We will be upgrading to 2008/IIS 7.5 in the near future, but I'd prefer not to wait for that. Is there any way to get the .html files to be parsed by razor as if they were .cshtml files?
I am not sure this is the forums but I dont know where to write this and this is an EMERGENCY ::I had windows 2003 server. on C: and I have installed windows 2008 server.I had SQL server installed and all of the database files stored inside c:program filessql server....PROBLEM is that after I installed 2008 server I can see 2 folders of program files one for x86 and the other for 64 bits.
View 2 RepliesI have a form with 10 file inputs. They can contain 10 random files with random sizes. If I send these files to ASP.NET server with this code:
var count = HttpContext.Current.Request.Files.Count;
var TotalSize = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < count; i++ )
{
HttpPostedFile postedFile = HttpContext.Current.Request.Files.Get(i);
TotalSize += postedFile.ContentLength;
}
And as you can see I didn't save the files on the server, will this code just calculate the summary of files without need to receive the whole file from the client (And therefore it would be very fast)?
I am trying to open different types of files that I have uploaded on my sql server database. I would like to display all the list of files in Gridview. When user click the link it should open download dialog box and should be able to open its particular applications such as word, excel, browsers etc.
View 3 RepliesI am rather new to asp.net but I have built a couple of apps that do not require users to login. am having some problems moving my secure .net application from my laptop to a production server, however, and I am hoping someone can help me. On my laptop my application's user authentication functions as it should, but when I move my application to a webserver I get an assortment of errors. Forgive me if these questions are a little basic. My first question is this. In a production environment do I move the ASPNETDB.MDF file in the App_Data folder to my SQL server? Is it OK to rename it to something more descriptive?
