Website Makes Browser Load Unwanted (non-referenced) Plugins?
May 27, 2010
I've found that some of my ASP.Net web apps prompt the browser to load plugins that I'm not explicitely using and certainly haven't deliberately referenced in the project settings. Two that come to mind are for MS MediaPlayer and the "SVG Viewer for Netscape".The only commonality I've determined so far is that the two sites/apps affected both use Master pages (nested in some cases). We don't use SVG file types (just the normal mix of jpg/gif/png) and no video/audio (not yet anyway). Can anyone provide a hint as to where the references for these might be creeping in? e.g. Is it a server-level include? Or a .Net runtime default when using master pages?Does anyone else even experience this, or is it just me?
so this is alittle bit obscure and I'm not sure its the best way of doing what I'm trying to do but here goes.
Basically I have a Presentation Layer Dll in my web site which handles the Model View Presenter classes. The presentation layer also handles login for my website and then calls off to a web service. Currently whenever the presentation layer calls to a model it verifies the users details and if they are invalid it calls to a loginHandler which redirects the user to the login page. However I cannot dynamically load a new istance of the Login Page in my website from within my Presentation layer.
I've tried to use reflection to dynamically load the class but Since the method call is in the presentation assembly it is only looking within that assembly while the page I want to load is in the website.
heres the reflection code that loads the View:
public ILoginView LoadView() { string viewName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["LoginView"].ToString(); Type type = Type.GetType(viewName, true); object newInstance = Activator.CreateInstance(type); return newInstance as ILoginView; }
how to search within the website assembly? Ideal I don't want to tie this implementation into the website specifically as the presentation layer is also used in a WPF application.
I really like coding in VB and i have built a few windows forms and messed around a bit so recently i dove into the web forms and website coding aspect of my VB 2010 studio. i watched a the tutorials and i've been all over this forum but i can't get my webpage to load in my browser. the top line of code, that comes with the default ASP.NET website:
I have a process in which a user uploads a file to a web site where the file is then processed and uploaded into the database. The process of validating the file could take several minutes so as soon as the file is uploaded I create a new thread and I do my processing on this second thread. This works great on my local machine but doesn't work at all on my IIS 7 test server.
After some investigating I found the problem is that the process is trying to load a reference to Castle and it can't find the DLL. I have a copy of Castle DLLs in my bin and it works elsewhere in my app. I ran Fuslog and discovered that it is trying to load castle from the wrong location. It is trying to load from c:/windows/system32/inetsrv/.
It appears that under IIS 7 the second thread is executing in a different context or something.
VWD 2008 Express. Visual Basic.I have a gridview each row of which contains two textbox controls with an associated validator control (comparevalidators). When I load the page, it takes forever and I give up and stop debugging. The gridview would be populated with about 224 records if it ever came up. If I go into the gridview and disable the validators and make them invisible, then the page loads quickly. Why would these validators make the page hang up?
Also, when the page does hang up loading, I go into the VWD 2008 debugger and see dozens of temporary "anonymous code" modules have been created that contain code like:
I use Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. I am following a tutorial which uses VWD2005 and says to create an Ajax enabled website. There is no specifically named "Ajax enabled template" in VWD 2008 Express
I think I have created one by creating a new ASP.NET website and adding a ScriptManager and an UpdatePanel to the page and placing the content of the page inside the UpdatePanel ContentTemplate.
I am trying to rule out reasons why my aplication wont work - step by step, piece by piece, from the beginning of the tutorial.
I developed and entity framework (.edmx) application in 4.0 in that i got all the data of my querying table and its foreign key referenced tables data also. but when i change my project to 3.5 i am unable to get the data of foreign key referenced tables data.
The error is mentioned below, the cssfriendly.dll is in bin, and browser file is in there app_browsers folder. And it is working in same PC (developping PC), on remote server that belong to my company (i just installed .net 3.5 on that server)
I tried uploading the same site on 2 dufferents hosting, and finally i got the same error. What could gone wrong ? I tried contacting the hosting support but they work in ticketing system and this is extremely slow.

I have a solution with a website and a class library. I have renamed the class library project from Insight_WebControls to Insight.WebControls. I have also renamed the assembly it produces in its properties.
I have removed from the website's references the old class library and added the new.
However, when I try to build the website, I get the error 'Could not load file or assembly 'Insight_WebControls' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.' There is a dll called 'Insight.WebControls' in the bin folder. Clearly some part of the website is still looking for the old filename. Can anyone tell me how to point it to Insight.WebControls.dll instead?
How to access proxy class of a web service which has been referenced in the website project of a solution within a class library project in the same solution?
I mean no web-service reference/setting is added to the class library and instead it needs to be picked from the web project.
I am developing a web application in ASP.NET3.5 with C#. I also using Telerik RadAjax Control. I am wondering if ASP.Net MVC 2 is a good choice for my current project. I want to build a social site that will allow for plugins or modular apps to be added on to it. An example of what I am talking about would be socialengine.net or even Joomla.
I was thinking that mvc areas would make good modular apps to plug into a core app but wondering if some sort of installer could be created that would wire things up automatically.
I'm currently involved with developing a C# CMS-like web application which will be used to standardise our development of websites. From the outset, the idea has been to keep the core as simple as possible to avoid the complexity and menu/option overload that blights many CMS systems. This simple core is now complete and working very well.
We envisisaged that the system would be able to accept plugins or modules which would extend the core functionality to suit a given projects needs. These would also be re-usable across projects. For example, a basic catalogue and shopping basket might be needed. All the code for such extensions should be in seperate assemblies. They should be able to provide their own admin interfaces and front-end code from this library. The system should search for available plugins and give the admin user the option to enable/disable the feature. (This is all very much like WordPress plugins)
It is crucial that we attack this problem in the correct way, so I'm trying to perform as much due dilligence as possible before jumping in.
I am aware of the Plugin Pattern (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms972962.aspx) and have read some articles on it's use. It seems reasonable but I'm not convinced it's necessarily the correct/best technique for this situation. It seems more suited to processing applications (image/audio manipulation, maths etc).
Are there any other options for achieving this kind of UI extensibility functionality? Or is the plugin pattern the way to go?
I'd also be interested if anybody has links to articles that explain using the plugin pattern for this purpose?
I was trying to prototype some jQuery-based menu into ASP.NET MVC. Just to name two examples here: [URL]Their demo page looks great, but when I integrate their sample code into MVC, the script no longer works in IE and FireFox, but it seems to work just fine under Google Chrome. Can someone kindly enough to point out what I missed? I will be honest here. I am still new to JavaScript. I have placed a copy of my VS2010 solution zip file @ [URL] Here is what I did. In the Site.Master, I have something like
Compiled the code and ran it under IE. Ideally, it should work like the demo in [URL], but in reality, it only displays unordered list in plain view. (If you download the solution file and run it, you should be able to repro this as well). Next, tried with FireFox, not working either, same result as IE. Finally, when I try it under Google Chrome 4.1 (lastest version), and the script displays just fine.
I have used jquery to design my control but when i place the controls in update panel then their design got disappeared i.e. the jquery got vanished. can u plz tell how can i resolve this issue.
I have to use update panel otherwise on selecting value from dropdown or checkbox then whole page get post back.
I am using Ajax authentication service to login/logout users. And have 2 boxes one for logged users, another for any user. When user logged in he get loged in box, then go to another page, then press back,i have unlogged box.In Page_Load i check if (Reques.IsAuthenticated) then i change box on corresponding,in this case on Logged in box.But Page_Load is not called when i press button back(in browser) or backspace.
I like the look of some of the Jquery validation plugins as opposed to the ASP.NET validation controls.
However, one big benefit of the ASP.NET validators is they automatically work on the server side too. Hence saving time and saving validation getting missed when work is maintained.
I am wondering if anyone has come across any tool/plugin to assist in automated mapping of jquery client side validation to a server side fallback.
I want a browser to go full screen as soon as my page loads. Is it possible in javascript. I know the shortcut key for this F11 but requirement is on page load only.
After reading the solution provided below. I achieved full screen but here i got a trap. I was using timer to make my page postback to get fresh data after every 5 second. And here I found after every 5 sec new window opens up but I want full screen to go only once and next time content gets refreshed there itself.
I have deployed my asp.net 2.0 website on IIS, and I tested there by browsing website in IIS and it's working fine. But I am getting the below error while browsing the websiteConfiguration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request.
