Sep 6, 2010I'm just curious to know what type of pattern do the Web User Controls in ASP.NET fall into?

View 1 Replieswhat is the best way to check today date come between from and To date. I am using below but it is taking too much time, but when i remove this condition it returns in 1 second.
getdate() BETWEEN a.ValidFrom AND COALESCE(a.ValidTo,getdate())
I have table called ROLE with fields (id,name, permission) example values (1001,madhu,hr)
I have another table called LOGIN with fields(id,DOB,password) example values(1001,24101989,madhukumar)
What i want is , if i login using the LOGIN table ,it  check the  id and permission in the ROLE table , if the permission is 'hr' it enable to access the menu , or if the permission is any other it just print the error message ("no permission")
Note: menu is placed in master page , but login is not in the master page ...
I have LOGIN PANEL for student, and I want to disable it in different page. And only the admin can enable and disable it. I dont know the logic behind here.
View 1 RepliesI have a signup page and Main page in my web site. i want to prevent an user to type directly the Main page URL, user should have access after signup/login.
View 1 Repliesi'm building a web application with asp.net c# and i have a class that i want to use in multiple pages witouth instantiate it every time. I need to load the data in it and never lose them during the user session time. I thought about the singleton-pattern but it shared the instance of the class beetween browsers.
View 4 RepliesWe have an ASP.NET MVC site that uses Entity Framework abstractions with Repository and UnitOfWork patterns. What I'm wondering is how others have implemented navigation of complex object graphs with these patterns. Let me give an example from one of our controllers:
[code]....
It's a registration process and pretty much everything hangs off the POCO class Person. In this case we're caching the person through the registration process. I've now started implementing the latter part of the registration process which requires access to data deeper in the object graph. Specifically DPA data which hangs off Legal inside Country.
The code above is just mapping out the model information into a simpler format for the ViewModel. My question is do you consider this fairly deep navigation of the graph good practice or would you abstract out the retrieval of the objects further down the graph into repositories?
Does anyone have a working pattern for converting a GET-POST-GET pattern to asny?
I'm encountering the following issues:
1. You cannot mix Sync and Async action methods SubmitForm(), SubmitFormAsync(bool? confirm), SubmitFormCompleted() ... (because the resolver gets all confused ... it doesn't use the HTTP verb to decide who to target. BTW: I think that's poor design, or a bug)
2. Renaming the get method name to something else eg: SubmitFormConfirmation(), SubmitFormAsync(bool? confirm), SubmitFormCompleted() would be very awkward if it works ... because you have to doctor the <form markup to specify an action name.
3. You cannot give them all async names SubmitFormAsync(), SubmitFormAsync(bool? confirm), submitFormCompleted(), because the call just keeps malfunctioning. It sometime even behaves as if you are requesting a delete of something.
Can someone give an insight from an actually working sample.
Now that the next version of ASP.NET MVC is being prototyped and previewed (ASP.NET MVC 3 Preview 1 came out a couple of weeks ago), I wonder if we should call the attention of the Core Dev team (S Hanselman, Phil Haack and all) to this "feature."there a easy/non tacky way of associating subdomains → areas?Something like:
[URL]Also, whats the best accepted design pattern in implementing PRG pattern in ASP.NET MVC? I guess it should also get some official loving in MVC 3.
If we let users input a couple of ip ranges, e.g., 172.16.11.5 - 100, how could I write a fucntion to check if a IP (172.16.11.50) falls in the ranges?
Is there any existing library in .NET to leverage?
We have a big portal that needs user registration to allow them use its services. It's already done in .NET and SOL Server 2005. we are in the phase now of discovering all the problems of the current registration system to build a new robust flexible one that can be extended easily and can be more usable for all services.
View 3 RepliesI'm writing an ASP.NET app. I need to include a page where the user can add an item which has several sets of subitems, each of which sets is unlimited in number. The subitems themselves contain between 10 and 15 fields, so need a fair bit of UI space.
As an example of what I mean, the user needs to be able to add a Business record to the system, including any number of Employee records and any number of Asset records.
The way I normally do this is by using a MultiView control with a set of tabs at the top. The tabs switch between the Views of the MultiView. The first tab will be for the Business record, the second will be for Employee records, and the third for Asset records. The Views for Employees and Assets are initially empty bar a button to add a new Employee (or Asset). When this button is clicked, the page is posted back and a user control is added dynamically to capture the details of the Employee (or Asset).
There is one save button that saves the whole object graph to the database.
This is quite complicated to program and maintain and I usually encounter headaches to do with managing ViewState for the dynamic user controls. Obviously, the ViewState on the page can also become quite large, making the page quite slow.
The advantage is that it is quite an intuitive UI for the user to understand, and the user can add everything and check it all before saving anything to the database.
I have some problem about observer pattern. My example is webboard system.
My solution wanna be refresh page after another user submit discussion.
I try to use observer but i don't know how to refresh another user's web page.
I have a message (System.Web.Mail.MailMessage) whose body is 400 bytes long, nothing in cc or bcc, has valid to/from addresses. But when I get to System.Web.Mail.WebMail.Send(msg) I get the exception [HttpException (0x80004005): Value does not fall within the expected range.] Not sure where to look. Google only provided a handful of options, mostly related to CDO.

I have a FormView that allows a user to register for a company event. I want to do a couple of things with this form.
1. I need to write this data to a MS SQL database
2. I need to send an email confirmation of their registration to their email.
I know how to do both of these things, but i am having trouble doing both at the same time.
It would be nice if I could do it in one click, but I coded it into two pages to try to help simplify it.
The first page allows the user to input their information into a formview and when they click the submit button, it places those answers into session variables:
[Code]....
[Code]....
The Second page confirms the users information by taking those session variables and placing them into labels:
[Code]....
[Code]....
However, after I place information into the formview on the first page, it throws up this error:
"Conversion from type 'TextBox' to type 'String' is not valid".
I have this error "The given value of type String from the data source cannot be converted to type datetime of the specified target column." when I used sqlbulkcopy to do the transaction
Here is my code:

I'm trying to get a value from a database and I'm getting an error, see code below:

I get and error when I'm trying to convert the value out of the stored procedure to the string SNAME. Error is as follows:
'Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid.'
and the stored procedure is as follows:
[Code]....
I get the error - Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'Integer' is not valid. - on the line.....
Dim newid As Integer = e.Command.Parameters("@latestRowId").Value.........in vb code behind.
I have the identical code for another page with the exception of the field names and it works fine. The only thing I did differently, as far as I know, is I copied the asp and code behind from the page that works into this page and manually changed the field and table names. I don't know what the problem is. Does anyone see any problems?

I have an Interface that has its concrete class defined via a factory. Because of this I found no way to use the Interface tpye directly in my LINQ quesry so I had to use the concrete class types to creat a generic list. The LINQ query works but after calling.ToList() on the LINQ query result I get a List(of MyConcreteClass), but I need a List(of IMyConcreteClass). I have tried everything I can find: .Cast, Ctype, implicit casting, etc. but I always get back one of the (2) messages (depending on if I attempt to cast)message:
"Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[MyConcreteClass]' to type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[IMyConcreteClass]'."
...or
"Unable to cast object of type '<CastIterator>d__aa`1[IMyConcreteClass]' to type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[MyConcreteClass]'."
