View 1 RepliesI use some session variables to get the job done(shopping cart, etc) but it is not stable..manytimes I get no items in session object and other times(refreshing the page) I get missing data...I downloaded the entire site code to my local pc and debugged it and run it succesfully without any session data missing...When I run it in the server, I get bad session again: no products in shopping cart or products with missing quantities...
The same website runs smoothly in our production server too....The problem is with our development server...
I have created a dynamic Robots.txt file for my application and I have created an redirect entry in my web config in the <system.web> section and it works perfectly in my development environment but once I uploaded the file to my server it does not work and gives me an error 404.Requested URLhttp://www.canadawelcome.ca:80/robots.txt
Physical Path
E:webcanadawelc1htdocs
obots.txt
This is what I have added to my system.web section
I've a ASP.Net application which utilizes SQL Server Stored Procedures and Web Services using Windows Authentication. The idea is to use the logged in user credentials for invoking the web service (This is critical since the web service use the authentication credentials to assign the owner of the created or updated record) and for executing the stored procedure.When I am using VS.Net integrated web server the result is just fine (May be because this server starts under current logged in user account) The SQL Server SP returns expected results (Even when I execute them from Query Analyzer) and web service credentials is set correctly to the current logged in user. However when I host the application in local IIS it's not working as expectedly. The Sql Server stored procedure returns EMPTY dataset and web service credentials is set to empty.I am using
myService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialsCache.DefaultCredentials
Bothe the web service host virtual directory and my application virtual directory is using Windows Authentication in Directory Security of IIS.
I created a http Module following this tutorial. The module just displays a simple "Hello from OnBeginRequest in custom module.".I've referenced it in web.config and then, to satisfy my scenario (at work we need to see a module in action for all websites on a server, with the minimal configuration) I installed the module in the GAC, then I edited the "global" web.config in order tomake the module work for all the my web applications
View 1 RepliesCame into work this morning and discovered that my local asp.net developmentn server has stopped working. Im getting the following page :
[Code]....
Im running visual studio of my personal PC withing my company's network.
I have a functionality working ( functionality for making controls visible / true false ) on my development system having windows 2008.
But the same is not working on production server having windows 2003 on IE.
It somethimes happens that, when I use PrinceXML to convert a webpage to a pdf, the local ASP.NET Development Server stops working...It popups the message "ASP.NET Development Server stops has stopped working"
View 4 RepliesI have a Web App (VS 2010 Beta 2, using VB) and it works flawlessly on the development system. When I publish it, everything works fine unless I use an update panel. If I use the update panel, and try to use something such as a dragpanel, I get the following error.

View 13 RepliesSo we have three 2008 R2 Servers where two are configured to be web servers (IIS 7.5), and the third a session state server. I have set the SessionState and MachineKey settings in the applications web.config. After I restart the two web servers I can log into one server, then change the IP address to the other server, and I am still logged in. Success.
I can typically log in/out with any user account I want, change the ip address back and forth, and all is well until some random time between 30-60 minutes when I log in to one server, change the IP address, and the new server asks for credentials.
This is the sessionState setting in both web.configs:
<sessionState mode="StateServer" stateConnectionString="tcpip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:42424" cookieless="false" timeout="30"/>
The application resides under the default web site, and uses the default application pool. I am using forms authentication with a timeout of 20 minutes. I am not receiving any error events on any of the three servers when this happens, and restarting the two web servers fixes the problem for a while. The two web servers are not clustered per-se, but will be served round-robin via a network device.
i am working on an application ,i have hosted on server. everything going fine . i have added a code to set session timeout in webconfig . but its expire default time .
<sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="524601"/>
Does ASP.NET 4.0 have any improvements as to inbuilt ptotection against session fixation attacks?
View 1 RepliesI am using ShDocVW.InternetExplorer class to spawn a new internet explorer object and to do some form filling stuffs(for some sharepoint works).It works fine in my own machine which has Windows 7 as the OS. But when I deployed the same thing in windows server 2003 machine, it does not pop up the internet explorer window. When I check the Task Manager, I could see a new iexplore process, but with Session ID = 0 (but session ID = 1 in windows 7). So, I see this is something regarding IIS Session isolation.So, is it possible to assign a ShDocVW.InternetExplorer instance to kind of a new System.Diagnostics.Process and achieve this task? Or can we start a new ShDocVW.InternetExplorer instance with session ID = 1?
View 3 RepliesI need to transfer a user to a page which requires session data which is stored within a different session.
Is it possible in some cases to migrate the session data by setting the session cookie on the user's browser?
Currently I have no workaround, and using session data seems like the only option I have at the moment.
My Session gets null after redirecting to other page,
Below written is my code in login page:
protected
void btnLogin_Click(object
sender, ImageClickEventArgs e)
{
// saving login history calling submit function to save login details in database
callsubmitfunctionofDatalayer();
//saving session
Session["Username"] = txtUsername.Text;

I am using IE8. I installed IE development tool bar when i used IE7. Right now Developemnt tool bar is not working in IE8 browser.
I can view Development tool bar in
View--->Explorer Bars
I am able to select the tool bar. But it does not dispaly anything to debug...
I'm getting "Cannot connect to ASP.NET development server" almost every time I stop the ASP.NET server before restarting the project in debug mode. It can take between 15 seconds and 2 minutes to get the error message, and Visual Studio is frozen.
Sometimes I get three in a row, and I have to wait 2 minutes each time, or go into Task Manager and kill to process. Then I have to start Visual Studio 2010 again, which is at least three times slower than Visual Studio 2008 to open.
It's *extremely* annoying. I know I don't have to close the server if the code has changed, but sometimes I simply want to restart my website in debug mode (there is a cache on most web service calls, so this clears the cache). A workaround is to add "foo" code to a class and restart the project.
I'm running Visual Studio 2010 Professional on Windows Server 2008. I'm running the Visual Studio Power Tools too, with the latest update.
I have created my site using ASP.NET Personal Starter Kits 3.5. I use Visual Studio 2008 only . .with its built-in SQL Server (2005 Express) ... my database in App_Data is ASPNETDB.MDF ...
I have created some of my tables also ....in ASPNETDB ..
In my local PC the site was running fine ...
But when I publish my site on production server it doesn't work and shows the following error
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>

My hosting provider connection string ..
<add name="ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=69.16.253.19;Initial Catalog=usa_data;Persist Security Info=True;User Id=user;Password=pass" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
My hosting provider gave me the connection string to connect to the SQL Server 2005 but it doesn't work...
I don't understand why my site was running fine using the production SQL Server 2005 in my local PC when I include ASPNETDB.MDF file in App_Data in my local pc only ..if I remove file ASPNETDB.MDF from App_Data of my local pc ... the site stops working ...
Can anybody tell em how to fix this ... !! I am very tensed since last 3-4 days
how to transfer my data from devlopment server to production server ,i have already records exist in my database if i go for script then how can i transfor record in script i can transfor only table ,procedure and views.I am using SqlServer 2005.
View 2 RepliesI want to copy a database on a development server to my local server. I am not the server administrator but I have rights to the database. Soon after the wizard Executes the SQL Server Agent Job it fails and the error message says:
The job failed. Check the event log on the destination server for details.
Where do I find this log? Also what could be the problem?
Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
View 5 RepliesI am wondering the best way to change my connection string based upon which server I am accessing.
Essentially, all of the development is done on our local machines - once we think it is working, we upload it to our development server. In these 2 instances, I want my application to go off of our "dev" connection string for the SQL database in the web.config.
However, once it is published to our production server (for an internal application), I would like the connection string to point to our live db.
I am using the N-Tier model by Imar Spaanjaars - and have it setup like he suggests - In my DAL I have a class called AppConfiguration -
In this class I have a public readonly property ConnectionString() which returns the connection string in the web.config.
This is in an individual class library. What I would like to do is something similar to:
If server is localhost OR devstring return devString else return productionstring
I'm trying to get my site to play a flash video the first time, and only the first time, a user visits the site. Currently, I'm using ASP session tags to install a sessionid cookie into the users browsers.
<% Session("name")="blah"
Session.Timeout=7
%>
This method works fine in FF and Chrome, but IE8 doesn't seem to want to accept the cookie. I've tested it with IE's lowest security settings possible ("Accept all cookies"), but it still does not create any cookie. Is there any other way to make it so that all browsers will take the cookie?
We have a largely asp.net web form team (With some Oracle developers thrown in).
Question 1:
Is it a good idea to start using asp.net MVC which will mean redevelopment of a number of standard controls for not much benefit.
Question 2:
Is it a good idea to hire developers where there most recent skills are with asp.net MVC?
I doubt there is any benefit adopting MVC now, given the 100+ applications in this suite of products, and the maintenance/rework this will cause. Given this, is there any particular reason to hire MVC developers, as they won't be hitting the ground running, which is what I need now.
