View 4 RepliesI am using a server control on a single web.forms page. I have to use this control on a web.forms page since its a server control, although this is actually a MVC project. So I created a web.forms folder and put my new page in it. I then copy the example code from the signature control. I get the following error:
The base class includes the field 'ctrlSign', but its type (WebSignatureCapture.SignatureControl) is not compatible with the type of control (ASP.signaturecapture_signaturecontrol_ctlsignature_ascx).
I know the code works because if I removed the ID attribute from the server control, it no longer gives me this error and my control renders. But I need the attribute for the ID so I can perform is post event
I am using this signature control. Here's the web.forms code...
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Index.aspx.cs" Inherits="KahunaCentralTIDRevamp.SignatureCapture.Index" %> [code]....
When I try to connect to access database from app_data folder of the webform I am getting "Invalid UDL file" .
View 1 RepliesIs there currently any easy way to move asp.net webform pages into an MVC project?
When I create a file from scratch in a MVC 2 project a .designer.cs file is created that includes field declarations for the code behind.
If I try copy a file into my Visual studio project then -> Include this file in project it does not work!
In MVC does every webform page need a designer.cs file?
I have MVC project, and then I want to load webform standard from special folder (~/views/Report Report.aspx). and I Try to call the report.aspx from homecontroller (different controller). The result is the resource is not found.
View 7 RepliesI'm just using a simple slideToggle function of jQuery. It works properly in my HTML file. But whenever I take codes into a ASP.NET WebForm project, script doesn't work. I can't achieve slide effect.
Is this a known issue? It's probably a popular mistake done by developers though. What could be the problem?
(I didn't copy&paste any code because of I thought this is not a specific situation, but I can show codes if you want)
I migrating a large asp.net webform site to MVC. I want to mix match old asp.net web form and asp.net mvc together for sometime and gradually convert the webform model to pure mvc model.
So i copied all aspx/ascx files from the old webform site to my mvc project. Now when i compile, i get build error. Code behind files can not find any server controls inside their aspx pages.
I can solve this problem by adding a desinger.cs file for each of the aspx, ascx file but that simply is not viable for me since i am dealing with hundreds of aspx pages and user controls and i can not afford to manually add a designer file for each of them.
I'm trying create unit testing for an existing website project (not web application project). I cannot access my under test classes unless I use accessor. However, if I use accessor, I have problem to initiate an object with passing arguments. I only want to create unit tetsing for App_Code. After searching web, and I found that I'd better to create a web application project using my current existing website project. From solution explorer, add new project ->using existing website. My questions is: what impact will have for my current website to create the new project? Should I just convert my current website to web application? If do that, will it cuase problems on my website? I am new on asp.net, still learning..
View 1 RepliesI just converted an ASP.NET Web Site Project to a Web Application Project in VS 2010. After I run the application though it seems that my class polymorphism broke. I don't have a clue as to why this could occur.
So in the following code when I call base.OnLoad(e) I am getting errors in the base class because the variable myString is null. In fact all the variables for the Base class are null. I can do
[code]....
I recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:
<div class='<asp:Literal ID="CssClassLiteral" runat="server"></asp:Literal>'>
It doesn't see this literal when it does the conversion... Is the above valid code or should I implement that functionality another way?
I was not able to do unit testing for our existing web site project. I converted the web site project to a web application project. I did some unit testing and changes on the converted web application project. However, my co-worker was doing UI testing on the web site project. We need put UI testing and unit testing to the web application project. Is it possible to move the UI testing code that my co-worker did to the web application project I am working? If so, how do you do it?
View 2 RepliesI've created a new vs.net project and added all the files from an asp.net website project.
When I compile, it couldn't find a reference to a class.
In the AppCode the class was defined, but without a namespace.
So I added a namespace, and then on the default.aspx.cs (this is where the error was originating) I added the using statement.
The using statement was not picking up the namespace.
I'm looking for template project that uses Facebook Connect instead of ASP.NET Membership service with ASP.NET MVC 1.0/2.0/3.0. It should support connect (login) and logof and storing user data to the database. Is there something like that?
And second question: Would YOU like to participate in building such tamplate? (if similar project doesn't exist)
I have just installed Visual Studio 2010, and I have an 2008 R2 web server, to wich I would like to connect directly through http.
What should I install/setup to get it working?
What is the difference between Web Application Project and Web Site Project ?

View 1 RepliesI have a new development machine running windows 7 professional 64 bit. On loading up a website project Im getting this error
'The Web Application Project 'websitename' is configured to use IIS. To access local IIS websites, you must install IIS components:
IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibilty
ASP.net
Windows Authentication
In addition you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account
As far as Im aware, I am an administrator of my own pc and I have the .net framework installed.

I have a website used by clients for reporting purposes and would like to give clients the option of my website reading their local database directly (instead of them providing data in a file format). In most instances their database would be SQL Express setup on their localhost.
How can I connect to a clients local SQL server via my website, using asp.net / javascript etc? If the client provides their connection string properties, localhost would just refer to my server's localhost...
Consider the following :Most people connect to the internet via an ISP. THeir database will run on their localhost and will not have a public address as such.Ideally, the client must supply some connectionstring (database name, login etc.) and my server must connect.VPN's wont work for this - I must connect to them (in a programmatic way) and pull data, not the other way around.
I've returned again to my problem of trying to connect to the SQL database on my website from a Windows forms application. I had some success but then I was playing around with some things and deleting stuff etc to see what would happen. I deleted the Database that I successfully connected to and added a new database for reasons I won't go into. Now when I try to connect to the new database I don't have success.
View 39 RepliesCan a user connect to my web site using an Orkut account ? Just like Google Friend Connect or Facebook, but with Orkut.
The idea is, the user goes to my web site, I have a "Connect using Orkut" button there, on click takes him to the Orkut login page, once s/he logins and grants access to my app, get's redirected to my web site with the Orkut ID as a parameter. The same procedure that works for Google Friend Connect and also Facebook Connect....
I haven't seen an example of this with Orkut. Can it be done ? Is there an Orkut Connect or similar ?
A sample in c# would be excellent, but I would be happy with a sample in any language.
