Trying To Include Literal Content Within A System.Web.UI.ControlCollection?
Mar 18, 2011
Is there any HTML tag that will wrap my text without changing its style at all? I've tried <pre> but that makes it look weird. I need this because I'm trying to include Literal content within a System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.

am duplicating a site from a prexisting site. I am getting the error 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Literal' does not allow child controls when my web application goes to process a function that implements keywords, description, title ect for a webpage. This is quite perplexing as it i not doing this in the website i duplicated from.
[Code]....
it looks at Header, i dont think it can find the definition in this second website so it is returning System.WEB.UI.EmptyControlCollection. In the first website it is returning System.Web.UI.ControlCollection. Also when I go to the definition for Header, it opens up the Metadata definition in the first website. In the Second, it says "Cannot navigate to definition".

I have written a Web Page which allows Club members to send a message to Committee Members. The Input Page is a Details View which allows input of the Members name, Email Address and a text message - this is stored in a SQL Table.
Currently the Page then sends an email to Committee Members which advises that there is a message on the website. The Committee then have to log on and access the Message page to read the message.
I would like to include in the email the content of TextBoxes from the Details View.
The Code I am currently using for sending the email is below
Imports System.Net.Mail
Partial Class NonAdmin_ContactUs
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub ContactUs_ItemInserting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.DetailsViewInsertEventArgs) Handles ContactUs.ItemInserting
e.Values("Date") = DateTime.Now
Dim textSubject As String = "New Message"
Dim textBody As String = "There is a new Message on the Malling Photographic Society Website. Please advise the rest of the Committee if you are handling this message"
Dim mailMessage As New System.Net.Mail.MailMessage
Dim MailClient As SmtpClient = New SmtpClient
mailMessage.From = New MailAddress("jpoll@sky.com")
mailMessage.To.Add(New MailAddress("committee@yahoogroups.co.uk"))
mailMessage.Subject = textSubject
mailMessage.Body = textBody
MailClient.Send(mailMessage)
End Sub
End Class

I am using ASP.NET MVC 2 & C#. I want to include/embed an html page (raw text & styling; no forms) in one of my views as is without my own css styling (read: The site.css styles for the ASP.NET MVC 2 application itself) affecting it. I can access the page statically and open it in a new window and it retains it's styling; however, if I do:
<asp:Content ID="loginContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server">
<!--#include virtual="~StaticInstructions.htm" -->
</asp:Content>
The styling from the html & the site.css in the web application seem to get merged. I've added the following ignore route entries as well: routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.html/{*pathInfo}"); I also tried making a partial view control with the raw html in it and rendering that here. That gives the exact same results as this.

I'm frequently adding a lot of content files (mostly images and js) to my ASP.NET project. I'm using VS publish system, and on publish, new files are not published until I include them in the project. I would like to auto include all files in specified directory. Is there a way to specify wich directories should be auto-included in csproj file or anywhere else?

I want to include view content page in my master page: My MVC application Left Menu MainPage. The Left Menu and Main page are two contentHolders in the master page. How can I add the Left Menu (View content page) to my Master page?. The Left Menu page is going to be a permanent page. The Content in the main Page is going to change. Left Menu content needs to be the permanent content for all other pages.
I searched in the internet, but I didn't find any solution that solves my problem. Basically I need some permanent menu items in the left page. But, I should not write the code in my master page. I need to add that Menucontent as my contentPage to the master. I have tried that by adding a New content page called "LeftPage.aspx" in View/Home folder.I have referred this page to the master "Left content holder". As the ASP.Net MVC talk to the controller, the left menu is not getting displayed while page loading.If i specify the ControlAction for this left page and specify the URL as //Home/Left ;then the page is getting displayed with only the left page content.

Im using vb.net, sql2005, ajax, .net3.5. Ok first off, yes i know there are some great CMS applications available already, dot.net nuke, kentico, umbraco, etc etc. However my problem is that i cant bring an external open source app into our organisation but i could develop one.
Im doing this to allow us to move all our HTML content, (Static pages) into a system that provides some sort of basic workflow and content management, im confident on doing this, my problem however is that ive been asked to store the data in XML.
Whilst i know that i can store the XML inside my database, and then read it out and transform im not sure how to do this when it comes to how authors create the pages - What i mean is normally i would give the author an HTML editor to add content, but this isnt going to work if im writing to XML, and also, what happens if they add an table inside the HTML editor
Has anyone every seen this done, is it even possible, or should we just look to use HTML stored inside the DB?

Assumptions: Microsoft stack (ASP.NET; SQL Server).
Some content management systems handle user-generated content (images, file attachments) by storing it in the file system. Others store these items in the back end database.
Some examples of both:
[code]....
What's the best approach, and why? What are the pros and cons of keeping user files in the database? Is there another approach?

I have just started with ASP.NET.
I like the idea of using Include files so that I can create various versions of individual parts of a site and decide in code which to display. I used:
<%Response.WriteFile("contentcontent.aspx")%>
to include a content.aspx file within my default.aspx page.
I would like to include a Left.aspx, Main.aspx and Right.aspx file inside the content.aspx file. I tried using the reponse.writefile function but noticed when I debug the website that the text "reponse.writefile..." displays instead of the code contained within the referenced file(s).
Can this not be done?

I'm using a literal to display some javascript on a product page control. Basically what I'm doing is in my code behind I'm declaring a new stringbuilder, writing the script while inserting some dynamic variables to populate the script then setting the literal text to the stringbuilder. This leaves me open to xss attacks. What can I do to prevent this?
System.Text.StringBuilder sb = new System.Text.StringBuilder();
//loop through items in the collection
for (int i = 0; i < _prod.ActiveProductItemCollection.Count; i++)
{
sb.Append("<script type='text/javascript'>");
//add +1 to each item
sb.AppendFormat("mboxCreate("product_productpage_rec{0}",", i+1);
