View 2 RepliesI have a Solution that has two class libraries. I'm trying to convert the whole solution from asp.net 3.5 to 4.
Right now the libraries are in my Visual Studio 2008 projects folder. I've installed VS 2010. Should I just copy the libraries from the 2008 project folder to my 2010 project folder and open them in VS 2010?
What is the best practices for this? The entire solution is in a single folder in my VS 2008 Project folder, and each application and class library is in their own subfolder.
Task is to develop class libraries that can be re-use in projects but assambies should be copy righted. By this I mean developer will not give the code of class libraries to the clients yet they will provide the code of there sites/ applications, these libraries will be used just as internal development libraries. I want to make Business Logic Layer, DAL, Business Objects as class libraries
Q1. How I can control unathorised use of libraries ?
Q2. How to make assamlies non extendable ?
Q3. What security measurs I should take on this.
I am starting an MVC application and designing the class libraries structure at the moment. I started off with the following class library structure as below.
[code]....
As there will be about 3-4 developers working on the project I thought it might be useful to split out each section of the application into their own class libraries so each developer can work on a different section without interferring with each other.
In our application we have 5 tabs e.g. Dashboard, Admin, Reports, Editor, Subscribers. Would it be wise to put each tab into its own class library like below.
[code]....
our dev shop uses the naming guidelines as laid out in MS's MSDN content "Design Guidelines for Developing Class Libraries". It's a pain though having to refer to this via the web only. Does anyone know if this content is available in PDF or CHM format? My devs are resisting reviewing the webpage and I think sticking a portable file in their face might be more successful.
View 2 RepliesI have a Solution with a web project and some class libraries. The enumerations are in a the enumerations folder within my web project. I would like to make some of the enumerations available to other class libraries within my Solution. Should I just add another class library and call it Enumerations to my Solution so that all class libraries and my web project can access them?
View 3 RepliesI have developed a small website which is working on SQL server.. And also found Deployment process which is working well in my system. But my actual need is when I am deploying a project there should be some time limit to work that particular application like a trial version to give demonstration to others.
how to deploy a project like a trial version....
I have a framework 2.0 asp.net website, I want to change it's framework version to 3.5. Is it possible to do this manually from web.config file? I don't want to change from visual studio property pages. I need to change from web.config, what should I do?
View 2 RepliesI am about to a client develop a mobile version of their EPiServer site. The mobile version should have different functionality than the regular but some content might be shared so that it won't have be maintained twice.
I'm thinking about using jQuery Mobile as the user interface system to reach as many users as possible with the same solution and possibly 51degrees.mobi for best detection of mobile devices.
Does anyone have any experience in how to do this with EPiServer? How to structure? I'm thinking of using a sub-node (/mobile) that gets hidden on the regular site but I'm not sure it's the best solution.
I have created my first Custom asp.net server control.But i think such projects probably contains AssemblyInfo file.But i am missing that. When i created project that file was not added.
I am working on VS 2008 Team System Edition,with VB.NET language.How to get that file ?
I'm using a cookie to keep track of the language.
The url stays the same for the french, english, polish, spanish, italian versions of the site since the content is located in seperate .resx files. and the code stays the same for all.
I need search engines to see all versions of my site.
And I need to stay on the same domain for all languages. No subdomains.
I have a product class which contains 11 public fields.
ProductId
ShortTitle
LongTitle
Description
Price
Length
Width
Depth
Material
Img
Colors
Pattern
The number of fields may grow with attributes for more specific product tyes. The description may contain a large amount of data. I want to create a slim version of this product class that only contains the data needed. I'm only displaying 4 of the 12 fields when listing products on a category page. It seems like a waste to retrieve all of the data when most of it isn't being used. I created a parent class of ProductListing that contains the 4 fields I need for the category page
ProductId
ShortTitle
Price
Img
Then created a class of Product that inherits from ProductListing containing all product data. It seems backwards as "ProductListing" is not a kind of "Product" but I just started reading about inheritance a few months ago so it's stil a little new to me. Is there a better way to get a slim object so I'm not pulling data I don't need? Is the solution I have in place fine how it is?
There is an existing asp.net 2.0 app on an IIS 6 server. I need to add a feature/page to this site (third party app, don't have source code). I'm creating my tool in VS targeting dotnet 4. For end user convenience I need my tool to be available within the same url namespace as this .net 2.0 app. I assumed I would just create a new virtual directory within this existing app to put my app. But I hadn't thought about the different framework versions.... the web server does have v 4 installed. So can I create my virtual directory and host my v4 tool there, within the v2 website?
anything I should be aware of to make that work?
I have an ASP.NET web site project where I am using both VB.Net and C# class files. I have included separate sub folders in the App_Code directory for classes of each language.However, while I can successfully make use of a C# class in a VB class, I cannot do the opposite: use a a VB class in a C# class.
So, to illustrate, I might have two classes such as this:
Public Class VBTestClass
Public Sub New()
End Sub [code]....
I get an error that "the type or namespace "VBTestClass" could not be found". What am I missing here?
Are the Crystal Reports objects within Visual Studio (I'm using 2005) the full version or is it a trial version that is missing features?
View 1 RepliesWe have an application that is already deployed in the production environment. And currently it is using Dundas evaluation version. We tried updating it to the licensed version by simply pasting the dll file. but we got the error message as "The file has not been pre-compiled and cannot be requested".
View 1 RepliesI'm try to get my site to detect what browser someone is using to ensure they're using one that is compliant with our site. Everything works, except Firefox seems to post the wrong version in the Request.Browser variables.I'm on Firefox 3.6.10, but Request.Browser shows Mozilla 1.9.2.10. It's correct in the HTTP_USER_AGENT string:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 YFF35 Firefox/3.6.10 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Is there a way to detect it better without having to parse through the HTTP_USER_AGENT string?
Is there any limit on the size/numbers in the version number of the FormsAuthenticationTicket.
I tried to create an ASP.NET cookie using forms authentication, with a large version number(ex: 1234567 need this number for identification purposes). But when I decrypt the cookie I get 135 as the version number.
Initially the old forms authentication cookie was removed, in order to add new information.
Response.Cookies.Remove(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName);
Following is the code I used to create the FormsAuthentication cookie.
FormsAuthenticationTicket newAuthTicket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(1234567, un, DateTime.Now, DateTime.Now.AddHours(5F), false, user_data);
HttpCookie newauthCookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName, FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(newAuthTicket));
Response.Cookies.Add(newauthCookie);
After retrieving the cookie, the version number I got was 135. This number varies with different version numbers.
string cookieName = FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName;
HttpCookie authCookie = Context.Request.Cookies[cookieName];
if (authCookie == null)
{
return;
}
FormsAuthenticationTicket authTkt = null;
authTkt = FormsAuthentication.Decrypt(authCookie.Value);
if (authTkt == null)
{
return;
}
int versionID = authTkt.Version;
Can someone let me know if it's a bad idea to use such big version numbers, or am I missing something in this.
I have Visual Studio 2008 installed on this workstation with SQL 2000, 2005 Express, 2008 Express and I think 2008 R2 (not sure if that is a version itselve or not)
I will call that workstation HOME
I created some tables in SQLEXPRESS through VS2008.
I worked on this project on another workstation that I just installed VS2008 annd SQLEXPRESS 2008 and I know that was R2
Installed Visual Studio 2010 trial edition between the thiem I made the tables on HOME and tonight for the first time since that install
I am now getting the "cannot be opened becuase it is version Version 661. This Server supports version 655..."
What to do now?
I can opened SQLExpress 2008 management studio and it is running.
So is my SQL 2000. The problem seems to be that after the VS2010 install neither VS2008 or VS2010 can connect to the SQLExpress 2008
What do I do now?
I can't remove sql 2000 because it is tied to several 3+ gig databases that will not work in Express.

I'm new to web dev. and I'm using asp.net/C# to build a website. I currently have a class called DataLayer that I'm using to perform all of my database functions, and also store some queried information. I initially had this class as static, because that's how I wanted it to behave, but then realized that will be all kinds of bad for multiple users.
I have to make an instance out of this class in order to use it, but I need to maintain the same instance throughout several webpages for that user. Any thoughts or ideas on how to go about this approach? How to pass this object from page to page? Store in session variable, as a global object somehow?
I have a menu made of an unordered list:
<ul id="navList">
<li id="homeTab">
<%: Html.ActionLink("Home", "Index", "Home")%>
</li> |
<li id="ourMissionTab">
[Code]....
I find the controller:
<% string controller = ViewContext.RouteData.Values["Controller"].ToString(); %>
then I would like to set the class for the li according to the controller value. How do I do that?
Something like: if controller == "home", then set the class for the li with the home id to active.
I just started learning MVC and am very new to the syntax. when you respond to this posting provide syntax, as I am coming from code behind background.
I have a solution I'm working on in VS2010 Professional, using ASP.NET 4.0 with the AJAX Toolkit.This has been working fine, but when I started it up today, I got the runtime exception shown above. This exception occurs on any page with a control from the toolkit.Sometimes when I load a page, I get an exception "Could not load file or assembly 'System.Windows, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, ublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." If I then reload the page (without making any changes), I then get the exception shown in the subject line.I tried dragging an AJAX Toolkit control from the toolbox onto a page, and then deleting it, and that worked - once. The next time I tried the page (or any other), I got the exception again. Dragging a control out didn't help this time.
View 5 RepliesI have a library that is meant to be used by many websites. The way I am doing it now is in the library's properties, I set the "Post-build event command line" to: copy "$(TargetPath)" "$(SolutionDir)MyWebsitein$(TargetFileName)"
Every time I want a new website to use the shared library, I add a new line like this: copy "$(TargetPath)" "$(SolutionDir)MyWebsite2in$(TargetFileName)"
Is there an easy or better way to do this besides using the GAC?
We have an application coded in .NET 1.1. We plan to upgrade to .NET 3.5
But there are few core libraries written in .NET 1.1 that we use from other groups.My question is will our 3.5 app can still reference those 1.1 libraries? Or do we have convert them also to .NET 3.5?
