ADO.NET :: Auto Include All Nested Fields In LINQ ?

Jan 2, 2011

I use Visual Studio 2010 and MS SQL Express edition. .NET 4.0

Database model is very simple. I have articles and each articles has a category. Simple relationship 1 category many articles.

So to take all articles I use code:

[Code]....

and it's automatically loads Category reference and all Category references to. So it's looks like it's load all nested fields automatically. How I can deny this?

I was thinking that I should use .Include("Category"), but it seems that it's don't needed.Problem is that when I try to send it it's throw an exception:

The maximum read depth (32) has been exceeded because XML data being read has more levels of nesting than is allowed by the quota.

var tt = from a in PE.Articles

Web Forms :: Include ID Value Hidden With Auto Complete With Image

Oct 23, 2012

In the following link, an article of yours titled auto complete with image, i have a doubt [URL] ....

I am developing a movie database website and in that i included this auto complete with image feature for suggesting film names with the image of the film,film title and year of the film when the user types the first few words of a film.There is a button "search" next to the auto complete text box and if the user clicks that button it will take it to another page with the film title as query string and in that page i have written code to fetch details from database based on the film title query string. My problem is i want to fetch the details of the film in the page load event with the film_id value also i don't want to show the film_id value in the auto complete text box.

CODE FOR WEB HANDLER

<%@ WebHandler Language="C#" Class="Search_CS" %>
public class Search_CS : IHttpHandler {
public void ProcessRequest (HttpContext context) {
string prefixText = context.Request.QueryString["q"];
using (SqlConnection conn = ConnectionManager.getmoviedb())

[Code] ....

CODE FOR MOVIE DETAILS PAGE

public partial class Movie_Details : System.Web.UI.Page {
string title,ttl;
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
//Rating Code Starts
if (!IsPostBack)

[Code] ...

To be simple I want the film_id value of the film title that the user selects as the query string which is used as search condition in the redirected page because there can be two film titles with the same name...

Auto-generate Detail Fields In .NET

Jul 29, 2010

Is there anyway to auto-generate ASP.NET controls based on fields in a SQLDataSource? It is really easy to create a form in WinForms by dragging the fields onto the form. You can even determine which control will be used (like a dropdown). Is there anyway to do this in ASP.NET? I don't want a DetailsView since I need to have separate controls that are created.

Constraint On Linq To Entities Include?

Jun 22, 2010

I have a message table that self joins to itself where Message.ID == Message.Parent. So I have 1 Message with several ChildMessages. This is set up nicely with a Navigation property.

The code is currently:

var message = from m in soe.Messages.Include("ChildMessages")
where m.ID == id
&& m.IsActive
select m;
return message.FirstOrDefault();

What I really want is to only return 1 Message (that is equal to a particular ID and isActive) with all of its Active ChildMessages and I want to do it in one call to the database.

Url Variables To Populate Form Fields And/or Auto Submit

Nov 12, 2010

I have a shortcut on my desktop to a login page for a website I use quite often. Every time I go there I have to reenter my user name and password.

The desktop URL shortcut I have is

http://domain.com/service/Login.aspx

I've tried adding the following changes

http://domain.com/service/Login.aspx?username=ckimball&password=joshua1

But this doesn't auto populate the fields on the website when it loads. Is there something special I need to do so the webpage will fill in the fields on the form?

Also bonus if I could just auto submit to login so I don't need the page to load and have me click "login" but I don't think that's possible... or is it?

C# - Returning A Max/limit When Using .Include () In LINQ-to-Entities Queries?

Mar 6, 2011

Is there a way to cap the number of records returned when an .Include() method is called on an ObjectQuery<>? Basically, if one of my entities is in a one-to-many relationship, such as a Band entity to a list of Fan entities (where a band can have any number of fans), how can I limit the number of fans returned?

In the example: var band = ctx.Bands.Include("Fans").SingleOrDefault(b => b.BandId == someBandId);

If I use the Include, it will return all fans. How can I query that Fans navigation property to return only a subset or max?

SQL Reporting :: Why Does ReportViewer Auto-shrink .rdlc Table And Fields

Aug 10, 2010

I am having trouble with .rdlc field sizing. Regardless of the table/field size settings in my .rdlc report, the reportviewer always shrinks the fields and table. I have tested everything I can think of, and searched the web for a solution to this problem, but no luck yet.

I have also tried just about every size setting there is and even looked in the output html, but nothing seems to be decreasing the width. I have attached two images. in the first image, I have added a black border around my table, and a red border around one of the fields to demonstrate the auto-shrink issue. the second image shows my vs report settings.

C# - Prevent Chrome From Auto Populating Fields With E-mail /password?

Feb 15, 2011

I have a form that has a MAC Address field and a Password field and I have the chrome auto-fill options turned off, but when I load the page, chrome thinks the MAC Address should be an e-mail address and puts an e-mail address in there and for the password, it puts a password in there. Is there a way to prevent this behavior? Is there way to do this programmatically on page load, I tried clearing the fields, but that doesn't work.

ADO.NET :: EF4 / Linq Eager Loading With Include Fails To Populate All Results?

Aug 25, 2010

I'm trying out EF4 as part of a .Net 4.0 WCF service. The aim of the service is to return document data as an array of entity objects to any of our ASP.Net apps. The apps are still in .Net 2.0. Due to the nature of the solution I've disabled LazyLoading at context level. I started with this:

[Code]....

Everything works ok, I receive the correct number of populated objects. However when I add an Include into my query to allow us to pickup fields from a related table that has a defined navigation only the first record is returned fully populated to a calling application:

[Code]....

The array is the correct size but all elements after the first are blank, default placeholders. Its like using the Include has reverted to LazyLoading and I can't seem to kick it into line.

Type Of Data In GridView / Listview Bound - Template And Auto Generated Fields

Aug 18, 2010

Background: I'm populating lots of asp.net c# GridViews and ListViews from a database and subsequently users may export them to Excel. I want export as native Excel (not html). I can't use office automation, and I'm using JET which works fine. I have no control over users' machines. Question: When doing the export, you have to tell Jet what type each field is, in my case "text" (varchar) or "numeric" (double). The difference is that if you export a numeric column, the users can sum the data in Excel, where as strings are exported with a leading apostrophe and so are not much use in arithmetic.

Currently I parse the first data row of the Grid/ListView, check if each value is numeric or text, and assign a type to the column accordingly. That works, except for when I have something in the first column which looks numeric but in fact is a text string. I don't want to parse every row in order to be sure I have the correct data type as some of these exports are quite large. When I load the Grid/ListView from the database, the database certainly knows what type each field is. So my question is... how do I extract the type of the database item behind a a Grid/ListView item? I could explicitly code it as an attribute on the item, but that's duplicating information I already have, if only I can get to it. I know that where I have a DataTable then I can get the underlying type from that, but mostly I don't have tables handy, just the Grid/ListView. Note that Jet will throw if you try to insert an empty string into a nullable numeric column. The way to do this is to omit that column name from the insert statement, or output a zero.

ADO.NET :: Linq To SQL GroupBy With Nested Repeaters?

Sep 2, 2010

After a few hours of searching I couldn't find a solution to this issue so I figured I'd try a post. I have stored procedure that queries 3 tables and retuns 1 set of results. When I execute the sproc using the following code db.GET_TRAININGS(userID).GroupBy(s=>s.COURSE_TITLE); I get back an IGrouping container where the course title is the key and contains 2 GET_TRAINING_RESULT elements. Then I bind using rptCourses.DataSource=trainings; then databind(),etc.What I'm trying to do is have the parent repeater show the course titles and the nested repeater show the modules for that course for the particular logged in user. Basically trying to turn a flat piece of data into heirchical data.The stored procedure returns the following SQL Columns Course_Title, Module_Path, Module_Name,Sequence. The sproc code is below:

The repeaters look like this of course:

DataSource Controls :: Linq To Sql Auto Generated Value?

Mar 12, 2010

In a database table, let's say I have a non-null field named "Description" with a default value of (''). If I drag this table onto the .dbml view in Visual Studio and click on the Description field, the properties will indicate that the Auto Generated Value is set to false, thus ignoring my default value of (''). This is fine, as long as I always explicitly set a value for Description when I perform an insert/update, but I ran into a problem today when I tried to do an insert without specifying a value for Description: Cannot insert NULL value into Description. The default value I set for the field was being ignored. To try and fix this error, I went back into the .dbml and set Auto Generated Value to true, and tried again - no error this time, but the data I tried to insert was ignored, and the default value, (''), was inserted instead. I do not want to explicitly set every field to a default value programmatically when I perform inserts. Is there any other way to resolve this issue other than making the fields nullable?

How to make the linq throw error, when not null columns are there in the table.

Why I am saying, it is. I tried to add to column in the table. Linq throwed error os some sort. I could not understand. it was like some innner table etc.

I had to resort to native sql, which showed the error, as the not null fields are there in the table.
