My project includes a grid view which displays information of inventory items (Assets), data is quried from AssetTable. The GridView has a command field to allow editing, below is a description of the tables and how data is displayed
Tables
BuildingTable: (BuildingID, BuildingName)
AssetTable: (BuildingID,..,....,....)
ItemTemplate: Using a LINQ query I join the two table and displays in a label control a string which includes BuildingID and BuildingName (5 North Building)
I have 3 edit template fields in the gridview with 1st and 3rd as a textbox and second one is a dropdownlist. The second one gets it's data from another table. I'm trying to get the values in the 2nd one and I'm unable to do it.
I am facing a situation where I have to disable GridView field (in EDIT mode ) conditionally.
Here is the situation,GridView has 5 fields "Product Name" "Small" " Medium" "Large" "XLarge"
Here is the problem, application has section where user activate/deactivate sizes (SMALL,MEDIUM,LARGE,XLARGE). Suppose User activates "SMALL" and "LARGE". Now When the GridView is populted normally, I don't have to disable any fields. But when the user clicks "EDIT" on GridView row, I want "MEDIUM" and "XLARGE" fields to appear as disable.
Here is what I know
1) I will have active sizes in SESSION ... in the above case (SMALL and LARGE)
2 I know I have to catch GridView_RowDataBound and then I have to check for the edit mode for the row.
MVC generates the following code in my edit view for me but I don't want the user to see it, let alone try and change it. If I delete the code I get an error because a required value is missing. What is best practice when dealing with this?
How I can get the generated view code below to place the editor-field to the right of the editor-label, on the same row? I don't want to mess with the generated defaults, e.g. remove the divs, as I am still in very early dev and regenerate views quite often.
I use Visual Studio 2010 and MS SQL Express edition. .NET 4.0
Database model is very simple. I have articles and each articles has a category. Simple relationship 1 category many articles.
So to take all articles I use code:
[Code]....
and it's automatically loads Category reference and all Category references to. So it's looks like it's load all nested fields automatically. How I can deny this?
I was thinking that I should use .Include("Category"), but it seems that it's don't needed.Problem is that when I try to send it it's throw an exception:
The maximum read depth (32) has been exceeded because XML data being read has more levels of nesting than is allowed by the quota.
I want to hide some fields, so that the user can't put value for them on insert and edit pages, and I will give these fields default values on code behind later.
I want to hide these fields just in insert pages but want to see them on the list pages, such as the createdAt column.
I have a combobox that is used as a control for Formview, so when the user selects a name from the combobox the data in formview displays in edit mode. However, some if the data that is displayed in formview needs to be empty. For example if the Date is being pulled in, it needs to be empty or null in edit mode.
I am working on an application and am attempting to use Linq with and ObjectDataSource but I only want to display/update 50% of the fields that are in the corresponding table. It appears to me that for this to work correctly, I need hidden fields on my form for all of the data fields from the table that the user cannot access. Is this the only way to do this? I have the following in my update method of my ODS:
[Code]....
The problem is, only the fields that appear on the form have data in them.
How to make the linq throw error, when not null columns are there in the table.
Why I am saying, it is. I tried to add to column in the table. Linq throwed error os some sort. I could not understand. it was like some innner table etc.
I had to resort to native sql, which showed the error, as the not null fields are there in the table.
I have an accounts table in my database (firstname, lastname, address, etc) and I need to display that on my asp.net page, BUT i need to enable editing also.
I have tried using GridView, DetailsView etc, and none of them seem to enable editing? I am sure i am doing something wrong.
I am using linqdatasource which connects to my repository.
I'm creating a confirm delete like popup with an iframe to use along with a gridview. When you click delete on a gridview row, the iframe shows up and asks if you would like to delete the associated image as well from the server. It works perfectly the first time I delete a row. After that whenever I click select or edit on a new row, it calls the rowdeleting event from the last deleted entry every time. I'm stumped. Here's the Sub:
'// Event that Occurs when the Delete Button is Clicked //' Protected Sub Confirm_Delete(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As GridViewDeleteEventArgs) Handles GridView1.RowDeleting Dim file_name As Array = Split(GridView1.Rows.Item(e.rowIndex).Cells.Item(10).Text, "/") If file_name.getLength(0) = 1 Then file_name = Split(GridView1.Rows.Item(e.rowIndex).Cells.Item(10).Text, "") End If Dim fn As String = file_name(file_name.getLength(0) -1) fn = replace(fn, ",", "%2C") fn = replace(fn, " ", "%20") Dim url As String = Me.Master.get_root_url & "CrimeBulletinProject/ConfirmDelete.asp?img_list=" & fn & "~!" confirm_delete_frame.Attributes.Add("src", url) confirm_delete_frame.Attributes.Add("style", "display: block; left: 50%") End Sub
I have a user requirement to hav the ability to directly edit the gridview without having to click the edit link. I was thinking of showing dropdown lists for each column-to-row so that the user can select the values for each record. Then the table will be updated accordingly (no update link).
Is this possible or do I still need the edit template and specify the item template with the dropdown list?
I have a grid view with edit and save buttons when I click on edit it is letting me edit it and if I click on save it is lettingme save the data that I have edited.
The thing is after save is done it is showing the data in edit mode i.e <edit item template > mode I am still seeing the textboxes if I refresh the page then I am seeing it normally.
How can I stop the gridview to show edit mode after the save is done?
Can someone tell me if there is a technique to make an entire Column within an gridview (for example digits) editable (instaed of a single row) and update this column after changing values by press an Update-button?
A commercial solution is also o.k. with me, but, of course, a method to do it ourselve would be nice.
- I want to put multiple rows of a gridview into edit mode
- I have not found any easy method to accomplish this task. I found a way to programmatically put a gridview into edit mode, but in testing the code below it works for only 1 row at a time :
I have a page with 2 GridViews on it. The top GridView shows all the Bike Riders the bottom GridView shows all the Bike Lockers. I have set up both GridViews to be able to Edit the data. And the top GridView to Select.
When I click the Select buton on the top GridView I programically reset the DataSource for the bottom GridView to show the Locker for the Biker of the top GridView Selected.
So far everything works great. I select a Biker on the Top GridView and the Bottom GridView resets just showing one record for the bike locker.
The problem is that if I then click on the Edit button on the bottom GridView (The Bike Locker GridView) the GridView goes into the Edit Mode but it now shows all the Bike Locker records and the edit record is always the top record of the GrdView.
