AJAX :: ModalPopup Triggered From Item Template Control On A Gridview?

I have a page that has a few requirements1. A Gridview that is dynamically populated (and refreshed at a regular interval) with a button control that is conditionally displayed 2. The button control should show a ModalPopup of a Panel that serves as a form 3. This Panel form contains a textbox populated with a value from the gridview and another dropdown control I can get 2 of these 3 requirements via a couple of different approaches (like 1+2 work, but 3 fails or 2 +3 work but 1 fails).The code pasted below is the closest I have gotten, and is actually my preferred method, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me why the ModalPopupTextBox1 is not rendered when ModalPopup button is clicked.If I place the Gridview1 outside of UpdatePanel1 (refresh controlled by Timer1), the ModalPopup Panel works as expectedMarkup: GridUpdate.aspx

I have found a couple of good topics here in the forum and wanted to see any other extra ideas for this control that I am making and trying to implement. So here is the basic information:
The control is going to display a SQL output in a bunch of label controls. The information is going to be coming from a gridview control where the field is going to be hyperlinked.
So I am wanting to set the "TargetControlID" property to the .ascx page load event.
now what I have found is that I can simply run the Popup.show(); function in the .cs file at the end of the page load, but I still have to place a valid control within the TargetControlID property. As you know, the property cannot be "null" and if I put in the control ID for something that is not valid, then it won't work either. So the only thing I can think of is tying it back to the overall control itself. Then I can always change it on the fly if needed, but I think I would not have to since it would fire on the page_load event...
Not sure if this is making any sense... Just understand that have to make this control go across several web pages that are already fully developed. I am just adding this in as new functionality...

The button was originally designed to open a panel with a detailsView control.
So could I grview Button -> modal popup with another panel (click on a ok button here) -> detailsview panel.

This is an ASP.NET 3.5 app. The page has the following controls in this order: GridView with Select button enabled UpdatePanel, which containsA trigger pointing to the SelectedIndexChanged event of the GridView A child DetailsView that displays the record of the selected item in the GridViewUpdateProgressSelecting an item in the GridView triggers the UpdatePanel and the record displays in the DetailsView, as expected. However, since the GridView is outside of the UpdatePanel, the UpdateProgress doesn't display while the record is being retrieved. If the GridView is moved inside the UpdatePanel, everything works as expected but for several reasons it needs to be outside of the UpdatePanel for this app.
There are several articles about how to trigger the UpdateProgress display. Most involve using a button, which has an OnClientClick event, that can be used to trigger some javascript to change the display style of the UpdateProgress. Unfortunately, there is no client side event for the GridView so no way to trigger the javascript. Any ideas on how to display the UpdateProgress when a GridView item is selected? In my Application I am using one Modal popup extender. I have one Grid View with Item Template containing Link button. I want to set Target Control Id of Popup extender to link Button of the Item Template. As it is inside the Item Template I can not access it directly in the page.
So Is there any alternative to achieve the same functionality.

i am implementing a update query module.i am displaying all fields from a table for a term searched. well now i am implementing update option for the record which are displayed, i have like 70 columns in my table, and i want to know how to restrict some selected fields to be only read only while the form can be updated ?Like if user select to update a record then some selected field such as "Timestamp, UID etc some selected fields" remains READ ONLY !

Does anyone know a simple way to determine if a user control is contained in an update panel that was triggered for async postback?
At the moment, the only pseudo logic for this I can think of is?
'Loop through the update panel controls on the page and find the one that is involved in the postback (isInPartialRendering)

i am working on grid view that have an item template contain a linkbutton that should delete its row so my broblem is how to get the index of the row which i have clicked its linkbutton i tried to search online msdn and asp but no answer helped me or may be its just me i was able to delete row by using enable deleting from the smart tag of the grid view but i was using sql data source which brings data from sql table but later i had to replace the sql table with sql view after i did that i couldn't enable the checkbox of enable insert,update and delete statment in advanced sql generatiom options in configure sql data source wizard and this is the other proplem and i not asking this for delete the record only ,it could help in send emial button which is placed the in item tamplate too and i am using C# by the way.

I have a dropdownlist as a template item in a gridview - it populates fine and with the right values. I have an SelectedIndexChanged on the dropdownlist, and has set it for postback. In the SelectedIndexChanged event, I would like to know where the control that fired this event is, - which row in the gridview is it in? How do I get this info? If the row was selected it would be easy, but the only thing that has happened in that row is that the dropdown has changed value and consequently the SelectedIndexChanged event has been fired - is that enough to know which row the event has been fired from?

I've got this gridview. The gridview uses TemplateFields as the number of fields in the database's table. What I do next is use an ItemTemplate to present the correct column info.
Now, problems rise when the user click's Edit. Since I can only use EditItemTemplate to edit I am resulted with a control in each column. What I really want is to have a single row with no columns so I can easily style the edit mode (having a table with a different layout for example).
Is this possible?

I am using Asp.net with C#.
I have one gridivew, which is showing 20 records. And also, in item template of Gridview, I used one dropdownlist. It means there are 20 dropdownlist with all the 20 rows. That dropdownlist is already binded, means showing the records/items - 8 items. No issue with this.
Now, what I want is, when ever, I select any item from the drodownlist against each row in that gridview and click on the button "Save", it will save the id of all row with all the values of dropdownlist.

I'm trying to use a calendar control to populate a textbox in a gridview cell in edit mode.
The error is with this line

I added runat="server" to the <a> and now I am not getting an error, but when a date is selected in the calendar control is it not being inserted int the txtGvEditTeDate textbox.

I have read a lot of post and seen some solutions to this; however, nothing seems to work for me. I have a gridview inside an update panel and when the user clicks on the edit link the row goes into edit mode. when the user clicks into the text box specified for the date nothing happens. here is what my JS looks like and the gridview row i am working with. i have tried the CSS selector and the ID selector with no luck......I also have a date picker working great on my page, but it is not inside a gridview or an update panel....

I have a textbox added in an item template so I can enter data. But when I press enter in a textbox it caused the page to postback and I lose the data entered. I can tab through fine but why does Enter cause a postback? Can I disable this?
