Accessing Web Server Controls From Jquery?

Aug 2, 2010

In my C# asp.net 3.5 web application I am having controls like div tag inside that one textbox and one check box and the page is having a submit button. So in this submit button click I want to make the controls inside the div tag visible.. I am calling a JQuery function to do this. All the statements are getting executed but the control is not visible.. Following is the code in my JQuery function

$("input[name$='QuestionAndAnswerEditorDiv']").show();
$("input[name$='answerLabel1']").show()
$("input[name$='wmd-AnswerTextBox']").show()

My div tag and its controls in the user control page are like the following

<div id="QuestionAndAnswerEditorDiv" runat="server">
<div id="wmd-button-bar" class="wmd-panel wmd-button-row"></div>
<textarea name="QuestionandAnswerTextArea" runat="server" id="AnswerTextBox" onkeyup="prettyPrint();" class="wmd-input editor" cols="92" rows="15"/><div class="wmd-preview text-preview preview" style="-ms-word-wrap: break-word;"></div>

As I noticed these controls are make visible=false in another page so they are not coming in the page source.. So Let me know how to work these controls now

Accessing Html Controls Within File From Server Side C#

Feb 27, 2010

Following code is an example, I just want to know if this can be done. I have an test.aspx file with this server side include tag;

<!--#include file="listOfCountries.htm" -->
Within listOfCountries.htm, I have:
<html>
<div>
<select id="countryList" runat="server">
<option></option>

</div>
</html>

Now, Is there a way to access "countryList" in test.aspx.cs file? On another note, say I didn't have the #include "Countries.htm" in test.aspx, is it possible to access the controls within Countries.htm from test.aspx.cs ? (i.e. accessing an external html file controls in cs)

VS 2010 - Accessing Dynamically Created Server Controls

Jun 8, 2012

Ok, so I'm dynamically adding <input type="File" />'s to the page via button click, client-side via Javascript.

Now when I click the upload button I can access the PostedFiles server side, but I also have radio button lists that I've created dynamically as well with no runat="server".

If I were to .setAttribute("runat","server") for the radio lists I create, is there a way to access that client-side created server control, from the server side?

Custom Server Controls :: Accessing Embedded Resource From IScriptControl?

Dec 1, 2010

My Composite control implements IScriptControl interface.

ScriptReferences java script file does the client-side work, there I want to load a html file inside iFrame.

The Html file is an embedded resource:

([assembly: System.Web.UI.WebResource("Control.Resources.list.htm", "text/html")])

I pass the path of the html to the javascript file via descriptor property:

IEnumerable<ScriptDescriptor> IScriptControl.GetScriptDescriptors()
{
descriptor.AddProperty("iframe", iframe);
return new ScriptDescriptor[] { descriptor };
}

Where iframe is a string that contains the path from the webresource.

Now, in this html file I want to display few images that must be also loaded from resource.

The Question is how to access the resources from this html file?

Do I have to pass every image path as descriptor property?

DataSource Controls :: Accessing Existing SQL Server Database With VS 2008?

Jan 13, 2010

I am attempting to write my very first ASP.NET application, it will simply display the contents of an SQL server database table in a Gridview. This is just a first step, my eventual intention is rewrite a set of VB6 applications I wrote some years ago. But I need to walk before I can run.

I have already created an SQL Server database containing all the tables used by the VB6 applications.

How do I link this database to my ASP.NET application. Previously (on another computer) I have simply opened "My Computer" and then navigated to the .mdf file (e.g. northwnd.mdf) and then dragged and dropped it into App_Data in Visual Studio. However when I try that on my own machine, with my own data, I get an "Access Denied" message.

How can I not have access to my own data on my own computer? What am doing wrong?

I am running Visual Studio 2008 on a Windows 7 Ultimate machine, with SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition (or which ever one installs with VS 2008).

Custom Server Controls :: Accessing User Control Over Multiple Projects?

Dec 10, 2010

I have a piece of code that is just HTML. It was previously created as a user control. Within the application i'm working with there are two seperate websites that are interlinked to make one website. There is a documents section where users do not need to login and a data section where users need to login. The design was implemented long before I was hired. My problem is I want to use the code from the documents website with the data website but I can't seem to register the control. I only one this piece of code in one place so when it is updated it doesn't have to be in multiple places. I tried setting "src=http://website/doc/doc.ascx" but this errors out saying

<%@ Register Src="http://website/doc/doc.ascx" TagName="docs" TagPrefix="temp" %>

Parser Error Message: The file '/documents/http://website/doc/doc.ascx' does not exist.

It adds the directory as part of the src. How can I have it point to this location http://website/doc/doc.ascx ?

DataSource Controls :: Error Accessing SQL Server Db From User Control In SharePoint

Jan 15, 2010

I'm developing an ASP.NET user control in VS2008 that writes to a SQL Server 2005 database. I've published the control to a SharePoint 2007 MOSS page using the SmartPart addon. The control consists of a few text fields and a submit button that writes the contents of the text fields to the database. When I test the control in the Visual Studio debugger, it works fine. When I try to submit data from the SharePoint page, I get the error shown at the end of this post. Last time I saw this, it was a database permissions error, but I've granted my site's default application pool read/write access to my database. Does anyone have any idea what else the problem might be? Also, how can I double-check the credentials that the SharePoint page is using to access the database, since I still suspect that this is a permissions issue?

I suppose using that url path for webservice is wrong.. I used the path 'DummyWebservice.asmx'. There I'm getting the 500 internal server error.

Custom Server Controls :: Accessing Properties Of A User Control From The Inherited Code Page?

Mar 8, 2010

If the answer to this question exists somewhere, I'm no good at searching for it. This is sort of a simple question, the response being two parts: (1) is it possible? (2) if so, how?

I've created a web user control for my site's footer. In my web.config I have it registered like this:

[Code]....

Then, within the pages on my site, I simply insert it like this:

[Code]....

But obviously, that didn't work. I get this error: The type or namespace name 'FooterControl' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

So I'm really not sure what to do at this point. I can put all of my code in the ASPX file and make my life easier, but I would kind of prefer not to.

Jquery - Web Application Accessing SharePoint Object Model?

Sep 21, 2010

I have an asp.net 2.0 web application that will run on the same web servers as SharePoint Server 2007. The application should run in its own App Pool (IIS 6.0). The Web Application needs to call the SharePoint Object model API.

Is there a resource that explains the required configuration / security settings and other considerations? It is possible that I need to make some settings in SharePoint Admin Console itself; aswell as config files. Script files might need to be located in a specific location in order to be accessible. Assemblies may need to be signed.

I can only get partial success running my Web application. But only if it is deployed to a Virtual Directory that resides under the SharePoint Website (in IIS & File system). Even with this setup, I JQuery / Javascript throw errors when accessed (object null); and also images not loading.

I have made some changes to the Web applicaton web.config file which have allowed me to run the application albeit the above mentioned issues with scripts and images (Virtual directory properties also set to allow scripts and executables to run). Ajax functionality appears to work OK.

Accessing And Binding Events To Grid View Using Jquery?

Mar 23, 2010

I have an ASP page which displays a text box when it loads. It takes an input number, send it to the server through post back, and then displays some record in a grid view. After a number is input into the box, the server fetches some data from a database and add records to the grid view. It also contains a link column, whose URL is set to "#", so that the page isn't redirected when it is clicked.

Now I want to bind a jquery "click" event to that link. How can I do that ? I have tried that to do myself but failed, because it is not available when the DOM is loaded (since it only contains rows when a number is input through the box), and is being modified through ASP.NET Ajax post back.

SQL Server :: Accessing Database From Website In Production Server?

Dec 10, 2010

I built an ASP.NET 4.0 Web Site. It works perfectly on my development computer. However, when I deploy the web site to theProduction Server, which is a Win2003 Small Business with Sql Server 2000, the site can't connect to the database.

These are the different tests I've made:

I tried using Integrated Windows authentication and this connection string: Data Source=myServerAddress;Initial Catalog=myDataBase;Integratedsecurity=true; and the error I got was that NT Authority/Network Service couldn't open the database. So I added that account to my database users list and gave it the appropiate permissions. Nothing.I tried using Sql Server authentication, so I created a new database user with a password and changed my connection string toData Source=myServerAddress;Initial Catalog=myDataBase;User Id=myUsername;Password=myPassword;. Nothing. I still got the same NT Authority user message.I deleted the used I created in step 2 and used the same connection string, to see if this time I got an error saying something about my user, and indeed it happened. I got an exception saying that user myUsername couldn't log on. I then created the user again, ang got the NT Authority user message one more time.I created a console application that used the same connection string from steps 2 and 3, and it connected to the database witouth any problem, which made me think that my problem's got something to do with my Web.config.I tried enabling impersonation on my Web.config, and thos time I got the same error message, only referring to the user I logged in to Windows, instead of NT Authority/Network service. What else could I check? My Web.config is this in case it helps (I havn't really put anything into it other than what VS puts):

Javascript - JS: "The Callee (server [not Server Application]) Is Not Available And Disappeared." Accessing Window.opener?

Oct 1, 2010

In our (quite large and old) ASP.NET application we use a lot of pages loaded into frames, iframes, and modal dialogs (using window.showModalDialog). We are starting to see the error above quite a bit, and I can't seem to find a single rational explanation for it anywhere.Popup Blockers. Nope. We're not running them. Not even the built-in blocker.Trusted Zone. Nope. The application runs on LocalHost right now, and it's in the trusted sites list.Stray Cosmic Rays. Possible, but not probable. It's way too consistent.

I did eventually find the error message buried on Microsoft's site in some dusty tome about retrieving automation error message information. In it, they were talking about Excel, and they said: "In this example, Microsoft Excel is the server application. Referencing a workbook object once it is destroyed (or closed) generates the error."That is probably as close as I've ever come to an explanation for the cause of the error, without a real, concrete explanation. Someone tried to use something after their reference to it was disposed of. Oddly, you can still see the windows on the screen. Curiously, however, this smacks suspiciously to me of the accepted answer to this.So here's what happens.

Page A is the main page.PageA displays PageB in a frame. PageB is a toolbar.PageA displays PageC in another frame. That's the content.PageC displays PageD in a nonmodal dialog. PageD, for reasons unknown to me, wants to modify the controls in PageB. It's trying to use window.opener to do that, and failing horribly.If someone could enlighten me as to why this is the case (the code works in FF), I'd appreciate it.
